I don’t disagree with this. I’m against paying players. Hell I was on baseball scholarship and didn’t even get a full scholarship with the 11.7 rule. 27 players dividing up 11.7 scholarships sucked.
Luckily they had a plan for me. Home economics scholarship. Which I never even took in high school or college. $50 a week to wash Judge Sharbert’s car (which I never did). Mrs./Dr Sharbert would have a hot plate each day for me on the chair outside my apartment behind their house for dinner.
That was “getting paid” at small level college ball

Sure. We also have 6k additional fans out there that can contribute $20/month and would never know it was gone.
Hell, if they raised the season ticket prices by $240, and that just all went to NIL and nobody knew, nothing would skip a beat.
People spend their money where they want to. Relying on the big money people to do everything, well that’s how we got the results we have lived with. It gives them all the power. Imagine what would happen if a coach didn’t have to rely on them for all the players, and they lose some of that influence we seem to complain so much about. Could be neat.

My last post on NIL in this recruiting thread
I am willing to put money in honor of those who are contributing.
I will provide receipts. This time next year if we are:
8-4: $100
9-3: $200
10-2/SECC appearance/CFP: $500
Coach fired: $500 (may not provide receipt until we make a good hire

It’s not sustainable with a roster of 85. The NFL has billionaire owner, plus ticket revenue, sales etc. to pay salaries .
Universities have to pay salaries with donations from the same people that are building the facilities and funding the programs.

Yet we still see a shite product on Saturdays that was worse than the year prior

I’ve more than derailed this thread enough, though I think it is topical.

I’m not conceding shite to Oregon Texas aTm Ohio state or any of the massive universities. frick them.
We still are 3rd in average income per grad in the conference. Vandy, aTm, Auburn…
Poor little ol Auburn

We are where we are because we've made really bad decisions with our head coaches and sandwiched between far and away the two best programs in college football for the last several years. If you turn you nose up at the boosters they aren't going to contribute as much and you 6k fans 20 bucks a month is barely going to pay the expenses to run the collective. You think those Texas oil a holes aren't getting a return on their investments in the form of influence? The booster boogeyman is not unique to auburn

It doesn't matter how much fans donate. They won't compare to even 1 billionaire at the programs competing to pay the most for their roster. The downfall of it all will be that there are very few of these type programs and even their fanbase will not keep paying to watch them play the same few programs, with the most NIL money, year after year.
The sport will break itself down and do a hard reset on how it all works. It can't sustain without rules and caps on it all. This is just the period we have to go through while it sorts itself out.

What do you mean you're not conceding

Phil Knight’s net worth is $45B and Nike has a market cap of $120B and $50B in revenue.
And with Auburn switching to Nike gear, us fans will pad Oregon’s NIL fund when we buy their polis’s and Jerseys.

Exactly why I didn’t want to go to Nike

Literally not what I said at all.
ETA: not having rely on them for everything =\= turning your nose up at them

I care more about basketball NIL than football NIL because we are in win-now mode, but even there NIL is lacking. Not really feeling great about Auburn athletics right now.

Ok, but removing some of their influence is how they will perceive it. People with that kind of money are either born into and entitled or have a big ego which drives their success.
The point is, no matter how or why, Auburn does not, and will not, have the same financial capability as a number of other schools it's competing with. That's not going to change unless some AU grad starts the next Amazon or Wal-Mart.
