This thread gets ways too much attention.
A bunch of dudes in tight pants get plenty of attention by the diamond dolls deservedly so, however those dudes suck this year and I haven’t seen the first game.

This team doesn’t deserve a SEC tourney seed…

I’m not sure we have to worry about a tourney seed. We got 2 incredibly tough series coming up in USCe and LSU so even playing well we could lose those and/or get swept.

I ask this simple question, What are the issues impacting the AU baseball program that prohibits it from competing for championships consistently? Are we to blame lack of scholarship funding? Poor facilities? Weak recruiting? Poor coaching? Lack of NIL investment?

Lottery scholarship funding would help, but Butch is doing a great job over all…he’s taken us to two World Series since he’s been here.

What does competing consistently mean to you? Does 3 trips to super regionals in 4 years not equal consistency?

We have the right coach which is a great start. We have a quality stadium that is going to get upgrades. Which will make it larger but not too big. We don’t have instate lottery scholarships which hurt us but Bruce is doing a very good job of finding that player just outside of the draft.
We have been consistent over the past 5-6 years. We haven’t been dominant. We are a good team this year we just have pitching issues.
We have a very young pitching staff. To put in perspective what young pitching in the SEC can do, Casey Mize his freshman year was 1-4 in conference with a 4.68 era. 2 years later he was the MLB #1 overall draft pick. The thing is overall since being at AU this might be the most pure arm talent Bruce has had to work with. Just have to go through those growing pains. We needed Gonzalez and Isbell to lead the pitching staff and neither happened. Big blow.

As others have mentioned, we have had really solid success under Butch. But the lack of the lottery scholarships is definitely a killer for us, and always has been since they were a thing.
It's the major thing holding us and Bama back in baseball.
NIL could be an issue as well, I doubt baseball has much of a focus compared to Bball and football these days.

Corch, imagine how good we’d be in both sports if Bruce stuck to basketball and Butch started coaching baseball.
