I stand corrected, but given this is a recruiting thread, would not your time be better spent correcting papers with your wife's boyfriend

Yep. Just wouldn’t expect a ton of volume in comparison to before. We’re about halfway though the bowl schedule as it is. And half or more won’t be “recruited”. They’ll navigate it on their own.

Portal to me means a bunch of quitters, unless they are JUCO. Who really wants quitters?

What do I have to do to ensure Derrick Hall comes back? Cuz I’ll do it

Tell him to talk to Jeff Holland?
Posted on 12/29/21 at 11:12 am to trinidadtiger
Yes good point, although I think Hall is a much better prospect

Yeah I think Hall can improve his draft stock a good bit by coming back and putting another year on film of him in the 3-4. He seems to be more comfortable in the new scheme and I think his production shows that.
I think he could make himself a pile of extra money by coming back.

Jeff Holland was severely limited physically and athletically. I really wish people would stop bringing it up as if had he come back, he would have been a high draft pick. He was 6'1 and came in at 249 pounds and ran a 4.8 - that is basically the complete opposite of what the NFL looks for in an edge rusher. Was he going to grow 3 more inches in his Senior season?
He was too short and too small to play DE, and too short and not long enough or twitchy or agile enough to project as an OLB in a 3-4. For such a small DE/OLB, his hips were also very tight.
Derick Hall can certainly benefit from coming back, but stop making these comparisons to guys who just didn't have the PHYSICAL tools to ever go high in the draft. Jeff Holland's ceiling and upside was always severely capped by things he had no control over, hence why using him as some sort of "scare story" is silly. Guys like that are what they are regardless of how long they play in college. Shaun Shivers is the same thing: dude can come back and play 7 years, it's not going to make him any taller or more physically able to project as a starting RB...which he's not.
By the way, Jeff Holland has been a practice squad player in the NFL for the past 4 seasons with with 6 different NFL teams. If he had the ability to play in the NFL, he would have caught on somewhere by now. He has not been without opportunity. Again, it is just so incredibly hard to find a spot in that league when you are short, small, not incredibly athletic, nor agile or mobile.

Yeah I think Hall compares more to Marlon Davidson. Who, by the way, certainly improved his stock by coming back and having a good senior season.
But DH and MD is a more apt comparison physically as guys who are kinda big and stiff to be edge guys, but not quite big enough to move down inside. Both have enough versatility to do either, but are best on the edge. In college at least. Because I think MD is up over 300 playing inside now in the NFL.

Derick Hall is 6'3 250 and is a true Edge.
Marlon Davidson was 6'3 300 (played at Auburn in the 280-290 range for most of his time here) and was a SDE/DT tweener. He bulked up going into the Draft to become more of a true DT in a 4-3 or a DE in a 3-4 (Atlanta runs a 3-4).
I don't really see the comparison. I'm not really sure what Hall is projected to run, but he looks like a prototypical Edge as he has the requisite height and length (he looks like he has long arms).

Have we signed a new qb yet?

Yes
A Georgia kid named Holden Geriner. Good looking prospect

Maybe I'm way off. I didn't realize Marlon was that heavy during his time at AU.
I was just thinking out loud without really looking at anything. I just went and looked at a couple mock drafts from earlier this month and saw Hall going at pick 72, which is early 3rd.
I was thinking for some reason he was a 4th-5th round guy. Maybe 3rd round is enough for him. That's a lot of money to walk away from so I could see him go.

Found on another board
“Tennessee, who's situation was much worse than Auburn's, brought in 4 Olinemen, 2 from Georgia.
USC, who evidently are now ahead of our program, brought in 3 Olinemen, 1 from Georgia.
Ol' Miss brought in 5 Olinemen, 1 from Georgia,
MSU brought in 4 Olinemen, 1 from Alabama and 1 from Georgia.
Mizzou brought in 4 Olinemen.
UK brought in 3 Olinemen
UF, who only has 10 total commits brought in 4 Olinemen.”
Why do we hate OL?

We can bring in bodies, but will they contribute? We have too many damn WR/TE/OL on the roster as it is.

met you are quite childish, its an internet board.
Jeff Holland played defense, went early and should not have, thats what I referenced.
You blasted off into some tirade as if I compared the two, and then digressed into some rant about Keynesian economics and its lasting effect on Sudan...or some other nonsense.
Again, take the meds, get off the board, and have someone do a welfare check on you.
Or you can meet me at Sonic...how big ole boy are you...
