May be reading into things too much, but it has seemed like we are trying to do everything to not have TJ be the starter.

The coaching staff most definitely does not agree with this thought process. They only want to identify who will win the most games. Nothing else.

I’m not really sure what part of that contradicts my point

For the negatigers. If Harsin doesn't want to start TJ, he would just do it. He wouldn't sit there and hope someone beat out TJ. It's his damn decision.

You negatigers are an odd bunch.

Right, and if they don’t think he has it and are trying to give Ashford or Calzada every opportunity possible to take the spot, how does your point contradict what I’m saying? He has gotten the lion share of the praise for being the best qb so far, yet we’ve gone pretty out of our way to not name him the starter. If the other guys just don’t capitalize on their opportunity, then it will be TJ, but if the reports have been true, they could have named him the clear starter by now if they wanted to.

You think I’m a negatiger?

Counter point. If Harsin wants TJ to be the starter, he would just do it.

I was pretty surprised he didn’t just name the starter on Tuesday. The longer this goes on it becomes apparent we don’t have a starting QB.

I mean it’s pretty obvious we don’t have one. I think TJ has probably shown he is serviceable, but wont be vastly improved over last year. Ashford has to be making played in live stuff that gives the coaches hope, but still struggles a lot with overall command and consistency that they can’t pull the trigger on him. That has to be where we are at right now just on how things appear.

There are plenty of other schools who also still haven’t named a starter….. they must suck too

It doesn’t. It’s clear that the coaches are not sold on TJ, or anyone at this point.

To be fair Harsin did this - not announcing until game week - at Boise 2-3 times when he didn't have a returning QB. IIRC he even had a 2-QB system when Rypien was a freshman. I forget the other kids name.

Will the defense be a top 3 in the conference unit?

That’s a tough question. Our 1st team should be pretty good. Some 2nd team spots should be solid. Injuries could cripple our defense at some spots.

I wouldn’t put them in the top 3… probably around 5/6 in the conference if we remain healthy

I think top 5 defense is a safe bet.. Top 3? Right on the edge maybe.

Also a lot depends on our offense how our defense gets to play things. They work hand in hand with each other. Able to control the football and score cuts games down in snaps which helps your stats.

To really judge a defense now with all the different type offenses is yard per play and points per game.

Do you think we will feature Tank with 25 touches(20 runs/ 5 receptions) per game?

Last year TEs production was more than the last several years combined. Does that trend continue?

So, you're saying Robbie and Griner?

Even if TEs production dropped a bit (which I don't think) They'll spread out RB load enough that Tank's stats probably don't go up appreciably.

eta: UNLESS we really keep the ball moving

I don’t think Tank wants 25 touches a game. 15 rushes 3-4 catches. He wants to go into the NFL healthy
