quote:Minnesota sends Utah unprotected first-round picks in 2023, 2025, and 2027, along with a top-five protected 2029 first-round pick and the right to swap first-rounders in 2026 if the Jazz finish higher. That's an absurd haul.
Minnesota traded Kessler, a bunch of guys, and some first round picks to Utah for Gobert
I really wished they could have kept Gobert, but Ainge and the GM are blowing up the team. Mitchell is next and he's been the problem for several years. He can't (or won't) play defense at all. Huge liability on D and his offensive efficiency goes way down when he's asked to do more than 19ppg/5ast/4/rbd. He's a good second or third scoring option on a team, or maybe a top sixth man. He's not a great locker room guy either because he thinks he's Kobe. Gobert is a loss and I hate they traded him. Walker better bulk up because he's about to get 20+ minutes per game served up on a platter on this Jazz team.
(edit) The Jazz are talking to the Knicks about all their 1st round picks, and Phoenix about Ayton. I could see the Jazz having to give up Kessler along with Mitchell if they trade for Ayton. And talking to the Heat too I just read. I'd take Tyler Herro for Mitchell straight up.

They got four RD1 picks, basically unprotected, and Kessler.
Gobert is underrated by most but w his deal/Utah setup they couldn't build a real contender. This is an absolute win for them to blow up and rebuild. Trading Donovan Mitchell probably gets a massive haul too.
Utah is going to look like OKC soon and that's a good place to be for a small market building for the future

I agree on the picks they received for Gobert. He's just one of those guys who's had to work really hard to be the player he is, and he really liked playing/living in Utah. Him and Mike Conley are atypical NBA, NBA All-Star caliber players that are easy to root for.
It's looking like the Jazz are keeping Mitchell. The Jazz roster isn't terrible as it is without Gobert. They are a borderline playoff team. They will need to get production from Udoka Azubuike from Kansas and Walker Kessler at the five. If Kessler can get stronger and adjust to the physicality then he'll play as much as his body allows IMO. They won't need him to score immediately, but come in, play good defense and block shots. They hired another Popovich/Spurs guy after Snyder left so they'll also ask him to shoot 3's too. They couldn't do that with Gobert.

Well maybe Gobert should've thought about that before he literally started Covid-19
Karma is a bitch

In a few years, Minnesota will be paying KAT and Gobert $100million combined and they’ll be on the clock to max Edwards.
And I’m not sure they’re that much better for it. They needed to do something but I’m not sure this was it
Guessing that Utah holds out and gets the best deal possible for Mitchell. His time seems limited given they’ve got a new front office and coaching staff (and team) with long deals

Isn’t helping him that most of the Rocket guards are doing their best KD Johnson impression
I’m trying to remember a pass Christopher has made

Yeah it’s bad. Rockets guards are clearly only concerned with one part of the stat sheet and it ain’t assists
