So according to Vol Nation and other sources, Phillips recruitment has taken an interesting turn. He now wants a neutral site game in South Carolina during the season so he can host a “charity event”.

All of this in addition to the massive NIL money he will be getting, whatever that number is.

Its a little late in the game for teams to change their schedule lol.

Maybe some kind of preseason scrimmage against a small SC school could work though.

Yea that vol nation bored is saying that Philips is being shopped around basically a best nil offer/ other requests. If true I'd think Auburn should just move on. No reason to deal with all that.

Seems like reality to me, especially him visiting (or not?) a place like KSU out of nowhere. We need a Jeff Hornacek to round out the roster. A guy that can be a dagger from three.

So now getting paid isn't enough, these guys get to dictate schedules as well?

Bye.

I'm so glad I lived my prime years when college sports were still fun.

frick that. No HS basketball player is worth dictating his future team’s schedule. Pay him, sure. Advertise his talents, sure. Help be be successful, sure. Dictating a schedule? No.

Move on if all of that is going on.

I think Phillips overplayed his hand with AU and probably others. We need a SG anyway, not another 3-4.

Well, it’s still between Auburn and Tennessee. A bidding war, it seems. He canceled his visit with K-State.

Announcement likely next Wednesday or Thursday, per JLee.

I agree except now its way too late in the process to go out and get another SG - most have either already committed somewhere or are heavy leans to another school.

I think we still land Phillips but it won’t be on his terms. Bruce will allow him to play the 3. He will get an NIL. If he don’t like that he can go somewhere else. I’m sure some is hyperbole from UT alarmist because the signs point to AU currently.

Your're probably right. I'd almost not like to sign a guy like Phillips if he's just going to play for the NIL slot with the most money. I don't really know how any of this stuff works though so maybe I'm being a Nancy. We really need a SG though.

Phillips can hit the 3 probably a mid 30’s% shooter from there. I trust Bruce to mold him how he needs him or he will sit the bench. Westry will be the high flying guy on this team. He also needs time to work on his jumper before he is the answer at the 3 but he has huge upside.

OK but we need a Lior Berman stroke with better feet on defense. I'd like to sign all the 5* guys we can but I don't think Phillips fits the profile of what we need.

Phillips just set a commitment date- May 12th. Final group is Auburn, Tenn, FSU, USC, SC, G league Ignite and Overtime Elite.

Given that the ignite team looks all but dead, and the same goes over Overtime, I think we can eliminate them. Not buying any of the other teams either. I still think its us or Tenn.

It’s not.

It’s Tennessee sour grapes. Setting the stage for their disappointment.

Another interesting note from Vol Nation tonight:

“I think the staff pretty tight-lipped right now given the roller coaster ride of the last few weeks. Again, they talked to him and family for two hours last night answering every possible question about development, school, etc. It went “as well as it could possibly go” according to my friend, and when I asked if the coaches felt better or worse about it than a week ago, he said “much better”. I think his parents are worn out on the bs of handlers and genuinely trust Barnes. Anything can happen, but we’re in a good spot.”

And This: “ It’s probably a few pages back in this thread now but I spoke to people close to Auburn’s athletic department yesterday and they felt like he was picking UT.”

Tennessee obviously has much better insiders than Auburn has - we cant get shite like this regarding news from our staff. Everything we know comes from them

Yeah, this guy has close enough ties to both UT and AU that he is "in the know" on both sides of the coin.

UT has historically had bad "insiders". They're wrong a hundred times for every time they're right.
