The kid played WR in HS and is obviously built nothing like a RB. Are you serious? He's like 6'5, and no, the fact that Derrick Henry (who measured 6'2 and 5/8ths BTW) played RB does not mean that every manmore who can kind of run should be playing RB.

Is Marcus Davis joining the coaching staff in some capacity?

Didn't the rumor mill say he's probably not becoming THE-QB and the guy is about Derrick Henry side and can run... so we'd have (with the new transfer guy) probably adequate numbers at QB and a gain hoss with great hands in a year we haven't had great success with lining up a quality RB's. It'd save a recruiting slot. And with new transfer rules you think he's going to stay three more years if he's the athlete he's been billed?
Stupid maybe but I don't get paid millions to do it so oh well. . . . (btw: If i got the rumor wrong - my bad)
Joey Gatewood is 6'5" 237 lbs
Yes some think Gatewood is a lost cause but personally I think idea of writing off a true freshman who has only had 15 practices is kinda crazy... He might not ever end up playing QB but it's way to early to make a decision either way

Yes, he's supposedly joining. Marcello tweeted something about it, but it looks like the article was taken down. I also don't have VIP access.

Dudes a true freshman qb. And no he will never be a running back

Cam was also smaller as a true freshman than Gatewood is now.

OG William Putnam. Top 100 National player
quote:
Auburn, they just have a great offense, they have a really good offensive line, they play in the SEC and they’re really competitive,” Putnam said. “They’re always a very good team. Always a top team in the country. Playing there I think I could develop well. They have a great strength program to the competition in practice to the atmosphere of games and level of competition. I think it’s a great environment. “Coach (Tim) Horton, I’ve been able to talk to Coach Horton a lot and he’s been down here in Tampa, both he and Coach J.B. Grimes. Coach Horton was the first one to reach out to me and that was when Coach (Herb) Hand was the offensive line coach there and we’ve been going with it ever since. “I liked how it was a smaller kind of college town feel. When you go into Auburn, Alabama, it’s Auburn, Alabama. It’s not named Auburn for a random reason. It’s very much a family environment. Everyone is going to say that but at Auburn I really believe it.”

I really think Gatewood will get every shot at QB (I think he’s our wildcat this year), but I think Gus wants him as a Trey Burton type role

Trey Burton type role

How should we feel about that? Is he a legit prospect?

quote:Key word there is potential. 2 of them are projects. No guarantee they will develop. If they don't then in 2019 you have Bo & 2 projects. That doesn't look good. We gotts take him IMO to give us 1 more shot at some depth at minimum. Hell. If he comes to AU I think he will be your 2019 starter giving Bo a chance to get his feet wet & acclimated to college ball before taking over.
3 potentially good QBs on the roster next year
quote:May or may not effect them but we can't worry about that. We have to take care of the hear & now. After the 2018 season the next here & now is 2019 which is a big QB ? as things are now.
we have good recruits looking at us for near year and the year after already..
quote:Count to different years. Cord would count in 2018, Dunmore in 2019.
A couple weeks ago we weren't sure if we would have room for someone like Dunmore, but now we have room for a project QB? I'll pass.
Also if the scholly went to someone else it would almost have to go to a walk on that had already been here 2 years so it doesn't count against a yearly 25 initial limit. Even as a walk on, if Cord plays at any point before he has been at AU 2 years (which seems very possible right now) then he counts against the yearly 25 limit in the 1st season he plays even if he is not on scholly. Therefore having the Phillies pay his way would be pointless as it would just give a scholly available to a walk on who likely will never play much at AU.

quote:In the short term yes but the moment he plays if it's before being here 2 years then he counts to a 25 counter limit so there is no gain long term there.
Tho if we don't use that scholly I think we would have extra spot for 2019 but don't know for sure. E knows that stuff better

You're not.
The specific example the staff used with HJ was Buffalo Bills TE & former offensive swiss army knife for Gus at Tulsa, Chales Clay.

Some RB recruiting nuggets from JHead on the bunker who JGT, JLee, & other respected posters feel has legit AU connections...
-4 Star RBs Derrian Brown & Kenny McIntosh have moved up our board & sitting even with presumed favorite Cain
-If true, Brown is the RB most would project in this class today
-though word is McIntosh is not a guarantee to stay in Miami
-still believe we are going to wait it out a little before deciding what to do at RB
-if Mark-Antony Richards plays anywhere but the U next fall it will be a recruiting miracle
FWIW JLee liked the post so that probably means it'e wrong given JLee's track record.

There just isn't anything that really excites me about Derrian Brown. He's not a big back, he's not fast enough to justify his size. He has skills, but just isn't very exciting.
McIntosh has good size, but that's about it. He is very slow.

More from that article on Putnam. Told Steve Wiltfong that he had planned on committing before the season but doesn't look likely now. Says AU & FSU will definitely get OVs. Also is looking at CLEM, UF & UGA. In the comments Wiltfong said the CB might be all FSU but says this race is pretty even & that AU is WAY more in this race than previously thought
Honestly I had written Putnam off but sounds like that's premature. My guess is we keep Kamaar Bell warm until Putnam makes a decision. Jones/Putnam would be a hell of a guard pair to pull this cycle

RB & LB are 2 spots really have no idea how it shakes out. Lots of names big names but none that seem likely to AU right now. Very interested to see if any of these guys make it to AU next week
I know Brown has been high on AU for awhile but KN seemed to think AU was pursuing others more. Wonder if that changed
