Calvin Anderson on Oklahoma…
“I also had a great visit there and got to sit down and hang out with Cody Ford who is an offensive lineman there – great guy. I had a good time going out and hanging out with the guys. And then I also really liked Coach (Bill) Bedenbaugh. He has a unique perspective on offense of line play. He’s more cutting edge, trying to figure out what he can do, what’s the next thing he can do to get a step ahead of a defensive lineman and get inside of their minds to figure out what they’re doing. So, I appreciated that. We watched hours of film together, which I enjoyed because that was my primary goal of each visit… to try to sit down and watch some film because that’s what’s going to matter in the next seven months. All the aesthetic is great, but what really is going to matter is the meat packed inside. Yeah sitting down with Coach Bedenbaugh was the most rewarding thing from there. He knows what he’s talking about when it comes to the offensive line.

Calvin Anderson on Texas and the common perception that proximity is a factor…
“You know, it’s shocking to me that I continue to have to answer this question, but I will continue to do it. Proximity to home matters zero in this conversation. Let’s run a hypothetical: Say I end up going to Texas – the reason will not be, nor will any part of the reason be that it was closer to home. I decided a long time ago that proximity to home was going to play zero part in this decision because I think I should go wherever I can in this country that will give me the best opportunity. So that’s why I ruled proximity to home out as a criteria.”
“I get why people say that ... see that on the outside in, but I think that my decision-making process and how I value this decision is a lot deeper than that. So, I guess that would be my response to that. But you know Texas has a lot of other advantages. I think Herb Hand is a big one for me because Herb Hand was the first guy to come meet me on the recruiting (trail). As soon as this whole recruiting thing started … he was recruiting me to come to Auburn. And it was good because the pitches that he had for me were less like pitches and more like reasons why he believes I am individually a good player and why he thinks he can help me improve my game. So I like that.”
“We talked a lot about his impact that he can have on me, so when he went over to Texas it wasn’t like he was changing up his recruiting pitch. He was saying the exact same thing he had been saying to me the entire time. I appreciated that, so I was drawn to coach Herb from the get go regardless of what school he was at, because I think that he can have a big impact on my future as an offensive lineman as I move to the professional level next year. So, yeah, so Herb is a big one. Obviously, Tom Herman is cutting edge. He was at Houston and obviously I was at Rice, so I was in town when he was taking over Houston. So, I got to observe that a little bit. I like his charisma. I think he has a high fire guy, so I always love him. Then I know Sam Ehlinger and Breckyn Hager really well. We went to high school together and I think those are both good guys… highly competitive guys, so I believe in both of their abilities because I’ve seen them both do it. So those are just to name a few.”

Calvin Anderson on Michigan…
“It will always come back to this… and I don’t know how people feel about this, but when I hear Michigan in my head, I think immediately of Matt Dudek. I know he is the recruiting guy there, and I guess this is his first full year there or whatever, but Matt Dudek man is… that’s my guy. Like, I value relationships in life in general because I think that progression in any career in any facet that you go into is predicated on your ability to make relationships and have meaningful relationships. And I think Matt Dudek does that better than most people I’ve met in my life actually. I think he values me just as a person, and so I think our relationship is going to transcend this whole football thing. I think he’ll be a guy that I want to make part of my life for years to come. So yeah Matt Dudek is immensely important to me in this decision, for Michigan, because I think that he is a guy that would have my best interests at heart and that would be doing everything he can to help me and to help his players. So I’m appreciative of that. Matt Dudek is a big part of that, and you know Drevno initially was a big part of it. I know he moved on and all that, so that is no longer consideration.”
“And lastly is Coach Harbaugh. I think the way he views football is very professional minded and so he sets his place up like it’s a professional place. So I have an appreciation for that. It has a very professional feel. Guys come there with similar motives and similar goals. You know, if you get guys with similar goals all around doing one thing together on the same team, special things can happen.”

It justs bothers me that Gus saves Hand from that disaster of a coaching gig at Penn St. and on the way out the door he cost us a good chance at one or two linemen, then leaves and may take the one grad transfer we wanted to plug what he left.
Oh well such is coaching these days.

Hand is doing his job. It has nothing to do with “these days”. He’s being paid by Texas to do his best to bring in the best talent possible. Think of how pissed we would be if we hired Hand from Texas and he said “Texas saved me so I’m not going to recruit this kid.”

How are we on Hand? This board hates everyone, so I can't get a good feel for how good he is. I assumed he was using what he had.

I think he's fine.
But at the same time wouldn't mind new blood.

Thats where I have him.

Pretty average coach in my opinion. Above average recruiter and below average developer.

Guess it's depends on how you are with O'line performance of late?
Maybe it was players, maybe it was him, maybe it was both; however weakest link besides parts of special teams (IE: non-kicking)...

Bite me. If I hire you out of a bad situation, you dont recruit or do a decent job while here, then have meets with recruits the week you leave and they bolt like the wind....Id say thats a pretty shitty way to leave a job. If thats the way you guys roll, it says a lot about character.

Well seems Hand redeemed himself and brought in Calvin Anderson, nice job.
Posted on 3/10/18 at 4:48 pm to trinidadtiger
Anderson was going there if Mickey Mouse was coaching the OL (who might be a better coach than hand)

So you’re just making crap up. Good to know. The reason our OL recruiting was a let down was because Hand left. It doesn’t say anything negative about your character for you to do the job you’re paid to do.

Totally worth it to lose Hand. 11 sacks in a game should never be forgiven. Let's not forget the 6 ol lineup changes per year. Good riddance.

Totally disagree. We wouldn’t have gotten any of those big time OL recruits even if Hand has stayed. Wouldn’t have happened.
