Not a huge surprise but KN & TX mod just CB'd Derrian Brown to TX

Maybe it helps us with Cain?

If Cain wasn't afraid of Emery he surely isn't afraid of Brown. Interested to see how long we slow play these other backs

Former LB Tre Williams will be on this year's recruiting staff as he recovers from his surgery. Intends to try out in NFL next year.

We lead for 2019 3* CB/S prospect Kenny Logan. Commitment could be soon.
quote:

Auburn is the team to beat for Menendez (St. Augustine, Fla.) athlete Kenny Logan.
The Tigers took over Logan’s top spot after a visit last Saturday to Auburn’s end-of-the-summer BBQ.
“Auburn is No. 1 for me,” Logan said. “They are No. 1 because of the relationships I have with the coaches.”
....

A commitment could come before the start of his senior season.

“It will probably be in the next couple of weeks, maybe in the next month,” Logan said. “And Auburn is at the top.”

Potential DB class of Jaylin Simpson, Jashawn Sheffield, Zion Puckett, Nehemiah Pritchett, and Kenny Logan... Even without Booth that's still a really nice group.

KN also put up an insider this morning. Summary

- There's been a ton of rumors about 4* DL Jaren Handy being a flip candidate (namely Yancy for OM) but after his most recent visit Handy reaffirmed his commitment & told KN he's pledge is "foolproof". Says that Bama, OM & MSST are all still recruiting him hard but is locked in with AU. He won't be an EE & won't use his OV to AU until DEC or JAN but plans to be on campus for the LSU game

- Still no decisions have been made for 4* Buck Derick Hall & when he might commit. KN still believes this is mostly an AU/MSST battle. Hall continues to say he's closes to Gus but his mom says that Joe Moorhead has been talking to them more recently. KN's sources told him Gus is planning on ramping things up with Hall & his family

- 3* ATH Kenny Logan is apparently the little brother of former UF player Brandon James. He named AU his leader Saturday & plays pretty much everywhere for his HS team. AU likes him at safety. KN can't say for sure if he's a take or not but he thinks there's a very good chance he is

- 3* ATH Tye Edwards hasn't heard much from AU & had named FSU his leader but that's changed. Apparently Noles aren't taking a RB this cycle & Edwards only wants to play on offense. Most teams like him at linebacker so his recruitment is pretty wide open right now. Oregon is reportedly recruiting him the hardest. Guy to monitor in coming months to see if AU needs him as backup at RB or if he changes his mind & decides to play LB

- KN has updated numbers on Mark-Antony Richards. He's 6 & half feet tall & 205 lbs which is up 15 from last year. Staff continue to compare him to Kerryon Johnson. FWIW he tweeted this weekend he was rewatching the AU/Bama 2013 game....

Starting to think Jashawn Sheffield might end up on the offensive side of the ball after all if we take both Pritchett & Logan. Crazy how many options AU has this cycle at DB

Random recruiting thought. Really seems like 5* LB Nakobe Dean might end up at FSU. That would throw a real wrench in Bama & UGA's LB recruiting plans. Both of those schools seem to think he's basically a silent commit to them

Only that Wanya Morris looks likely to OV for Tennessee game but he still seems pretty solid to the Vols

Other than that same as always. AU battling FSU for William Putnam, sitting in 2nd for Kamaar Bell & evaluating other OT options

Wolk reported yesterday that Kayode Oladele got cleared by the NCAA & will be eligible for an academic redshirt for any FBS school. Ole Miss and Arkansas appear to be the early favorites

Seems like a similar situation to Carlito Gonzalez last year. I think in this situation AU saw Cord Sandberg as being more valuable than hoping Oladele got cleared. Also seems clear to me that AU expects their signees to be academically ready to go by fall camp. They lost Carlito Gonzalez to Memphis last year in kind of the same situation. Not sure I disagree with this path. If you can't have your grades in order by August then gotta wonder about ability to handle it when you get to a collegiate program

Wolk also had a RB update yesterday. Nothing ground breaking

- AU will continue to be patient as they wait on Noah Cain's decision. He's clearly AU's top target. Belief is Cain's mom likes AU as much as any other school & think week 3 vs LSU will be a major selling point (sounds like staff think they gonna get some revenge)

- Staff expects to hear before Cain's December announcement whether or not they have a legit shot at landing him (KN has heard from a few prospects the staff expects to know by late Octorber)

- Apparently AU fans should keep an eye on 4* RB Ronald Thompkins. He's committed to Nebraska & is HS teammates with Owen Pappe & Jakai Clark. Staff liked him a lot but he suffered ACL last season & wanna see how he recovers. Wolk thinks Thompkins could see a lot of teams push for him this fall

- Asked about Steele Chambers & says AU likes him & communicates. There's some hope current OHST mess could help his recruitment. However, Wolk says AU sees him as a true athlete like Mark-Antony Richards meaning he could play a few different positions for the Tigers. Also Chambers is an elite baseball player & could end up playing that full time

- Wolk was also asked list of RBs AU has legit chance of landing
quote:

Noah Cain
Kenny McIntosh
Mark-Antony Richards
Ronald Thompkins
Tahj Gary
Tye Edwards
Steele Chambers

I probably would have waited for Oladele. Being able to fill his spot at another position of need takes the edge off but Oladele has a NFL body at DE and needed time to polish anyways.
