If you think he is coming to sit the bench, you'd be mistaken. Dont underestimate this guy.

You did a Great Post - but - tempering the orange and blue would make it more credible. I ask you why did the nation go crazy mesmerized over that 1 second? Was it's widespread lasting fame merely the underdog rush or because of who got beat?

Because it was a returned missed FG to win the game between the #1 and #4 teams in the country. Seriously, that's the game you pick to say the other team was significantly more talented? Everyone was freaking about them adding the second on the clock because we knew bama had no shot in OT.

Our talent is catching up as evidenced by last year, but there have been plenty of years where I have known that we didn’t stack up well with Bama and knew we were going to lose.

They weren't significantly more talented you idiot.

Probably because it was literally the one time in the history of football a team has won a game by returning an attempted game winning FG 109 yards for the game winning TD....

You can't tell me that watching the 2013 Iron Bowl that Bama looked like the "significantly more talented" team

Well, I do remember reading a New York Post editorial begging Auburn to beat Bama because of national Bama fatigue. Have to think that combined with the totality of the circumstances of the last second is what made it so great.

Sometimes the best team and the most talented team don’t always go hand in hand. See the UCF game.

I’d argue that you would find a greater depth of talented players on Bama’s squad that year. I know for sure there are more Bama players in the NFL right now than Auburn from that year. With that said, that year we got rolling at the right time and I didn’t doubt that we would have our chances to win.

Quantify it any way you want and get back to me. Wishing it was so and dreaming it away won't make it so. They have been handpicking what they want for a long time and turning away better than we sign (overall). Sure you can name a position, but as a team they are the standard at the moment. Does it hurt when you walk?*

So you're telling me you watched the 2013 and 2017 Iron Bowls and thought "Man, they are just way more talented than Auburn"?

We aren't saying Auburn is the most talented team in the country. What we are saying is the gap is not so great that there is a team that we just simply cannot beat. 2009 is a good example of the talent gap being too great. Auburn played way above their ceiling that year but fell short. We are past that point now.

Starting 22 at Auburn always stacks up with other teams. The issue comes in when talking about depth and the ability to reload year after year. The gap between Auburn and UA/UGA and others right now is wider when talking about the ability to re-load year after year and always be in the hunt for championships. I hope and believe that Auburn has the chance to be same conversation as Alabama, UGA, Ohio State, Clemson (more recently)..etc at the beginning of every year as a team that could win it all. I don't think that is out of the question for a program like Auburn. We just have to start sending kids to the league and get over that hump.

that wasn't the question in play

The reply was to...name a single team we have played in the Gus era where you felt the other team was significantly more talented?...and I don't honestly feel you can claim those bad losers from Tuscaloosa don't fit that bill.

As for 2013 it's even marginal that you claim that as Gus's team; however I did. Being it was what he inherited. If I seem to remember correctly they got being the curve due to a bad kicking game. They got bad gas'd because the lesser team (IMO) was taking it to them like had seen all year. I felt like Auburn won the day since it was the better conditioned, the most determined, and made the most out of what happened.

I disagree. We keep firing coaches. UGA and Bama have had consistency at the HC spot. That really effects recruiting. Locking down Gus will pay off on the trail.

I probably would have agreed had you said Iron Bowl 2016. You just picked the second worst option you could have for that opponent. We rushed for 296 yards and passed for less than 100. That alone tells you it wasn't some fluke occurrence or just making the most of opportunities. You will never see a Miss State or another clearly inferior team do something like that. You overcome a significant gap with big plays (typically through the air), not making a defense quit by pounding it down their throat.

Think this is the heart of disagreement. None of us disagree that Bama has more talent than AU. But I think it's a little much to say that there is a significant gap between AU & Bama

I agree. I think there are a lot of factors that need to happen to get to that point. I'm hoping we're on the right track. This year will be key.
