The good news is if we can close on Puckett, Hall, and Wooden that puts us at like 6th with fewer commits than some teams in front of us. Problem is other than those guys I don't know what other top guys we have a real good shot at.
KN still seems to think AU has a good shot at landing a top 5 class. Guessing AU will become a bigger player with Cam'Ron Kelly and/or Jalen Perry. Also sounds like Tyron Hopper has become a top target
Playing around with Class Calculator to see what a top 5 class might look like now without Booth. Here's best guess
QB - Bo Nix
RB - Noah Cain
WR - George Pickens, Jalen Curry, Ja'Varrius Johnson
TE - Tyler Fromm, Luke Deal
OL - William Putnam, Keiondre Jones, Justin Osborne Kamaar Bell, Jakai Clark
DL - Jaren Handy, Derick Hall, Colby Wooden, Jamond Gordon, LeDarrius Cox
LB - Owen Pappoe, Tyron Hopper
CB - Cam'Ron Kelly, Jaylin Simpson, Nehemiah Pritchett
S/N - Zion Puckett, Jashawn Sheffield
That would give us a score of 282.62 which is in the 5-7 range. Obviously if you trade any of those guys out for a Wanya Morris or Jadon Haselwood flip then we jump into the top 5
So probably comes down to what we do at RB & whether or not we can land another 5*. Should also note that I wouldn't be shocked if PIckens ended up a composite 5* before it's over. Still some more ranking updates to go too

The last page and 1/2 of this thread is embarrassing.
Owen commits...Yay, we are going to have a top 5 class.
Booth doesn't commit...a kid we had no chance to sign less than 3 months ago...the world is collapsing the talent gap is to great. Snowflakes.
Auburn has always and will always get some and lose some. We have never out recruited uga or bama. Last season...after 10 years of some of the most unbelievable recruiting in history we beat bama and looked like the superior team doing it.
Carry on.

And Lanier, I get what you are saying about the "state school" and all, but Clemson and other teams aren't the state school. Yet they don't let that hold them back. The problem is, we only have 2 elite recruiters on staff: T-Will and Kodi.
LOL. Lets face it. Clemson is THE school in South Carolina. Maybe not by name but in reality. USC has never been power team.
And our issues has nothing to do with Gus. Three may only be one or two coaches in the US that could bring Auburn to a level of Alabama and UGA in recruiting. And we are not getting either of them to coach at Auburn so just chill out.
WE are not going to load our wagon with 5* recruits. We will get one or two every once in a while but you need to be realistic..

FYI what should go down today
Cord Sandberg commits to AU
Kalen Deloach commits to FSU
Andrew Booth commits to CLEM
Dates AU fans should be looking forward to are August 16th & August 17th. Colby Wooden & Zion Puckett are expected to announce then. KN also still thinks Derick Hall commits in August

Whoever said this? We just shouldn't be constantly losing battles to them and damn sure not Clemson.

I get to watch him play against MGM this year and next year. Will be looking out for him nad how he plays. I know he plays against some good competition in the 7A class down here in Mobile. I might even have to catch the Theodore against McGill game to see how he stacks up against the best of the best down here.

Exactly. It’s not like we had a reason to believe Booth was Auburn bound so there is no need to melt ( including KN’s early class progs.)
We don’t recruit five star CB recruits to Auburn. It’s just not in our blood. Whenever we do, I’ll believe it when the fax comes in. Until then, I refuse to melt at any type of continuation of the status quo.

WR - George Pickens,
Both should be composite 5*s
Pickens is the best WR in the country and Nix is arguably the best QB.

Doubt Nix ever gets that 5th star but I think he's the best QB in the class
Pickens has a legit shot at 5*s. Tho I think Haselwood is the best in the class with Pickens a close 2nd
Let's get both just to be safe....

FWIW Jason Caldwell says that Roger McCreary has really been impressing in summer workouts
Basically all of that 2018 DB class (Tutt, Smoke, Sherwood, McCreary) are impressing early & could see the field this season

Solid post. And logical too.
Just bc we lose on a guy (Booth), doesn't mean we won't find a 4* DB that turns out just as good or better.
And I don't really worry about top 5. That is only a number based on hit or miss evaluations.
I want no worse than a top 10 class, and if we are close to top 5, fantastic.
We've never dominated recruiting consistently even since Dye got here. Every once in a while we hit that top 5, but we never consistently seem to hit it, and I know these coaches work very hard year in, year out.

I actually agree with this.
It’s funny to me that we’re arguing over say +\- 5 spots on the team rankings. Is the difference between 10 and 5 that much? I don’t believe so.
Auburn’s biggest focus needs to be on securing a dominant defense every year. They’ve been front-7 heavy for the last couple seasons and that has safely kept them in games. If Gus can somehow find some rhythm on offense and keep that defense rolling, the team will be fine. Whenever Steele moves on, I think it’s safe to say it is in good hands with T-Will.
But recruiting at Auburn will be ranked in 8-12 range pretty consistent because of the base in the SouthEast. Maybe hit on a couple 5* but the key for Auburn will always be in developing and securing high ranked JUCO’s.

It felt like Booth-to-AU talk heated up with the Owen Pappoe commitment. Still a season ahead though.
Btw, Clemson feels like Tennessee did during the late 90's and early 2000's. They stole slot of Georgia, Alabama and Florida recruits from coming to Auburn.

It seems that the majority of people on this board are fine with finishing in the 8-12 range of recruiting each yr. Some of us aren't. 2010 and 2013 were amazing and surprise yrs because of Cam and Marshall. AU is only "lucky" in the eyes of many. So unless we are lucky again, you guys that settle should not get too upset when we lose 3/4 games each yr and Bama and UGA battle it out each yr for #1.
