I was expecting a different response because that gif you posted was the next one I was going to use. Damn you

And in recruiting Pappoe has committed to Auburn.

I just want everyone to know that’s it’s Rocky, not me, who continues to trash the beloved recruiting thread.

I’m just sitting over here waiting for my new boat to arrive.

Conspiracy theorists assemble. 247 jumped 3 dudes over Pappoe today. Obviously waited to do this after committed to AU

SPARQ doesn’t mean much... measures your athletic ability, not football ability.

Know who else had an awesome sparq score?... Spencer pybus... remember him?.... yeah, me neither.

My point is.. if all they are doing is camp stuff, and he's performing great at them, what reason is there to drop him?

Also, not worried about Pickens going anywhere. I think he's a solid as it gets and have for a while.

In other recruiting news we need a deeper pool of OL, who do we feel confident in?

Think 4* OG Keiondre Jones is our best shot right now. Seems like we are factor for 4* OG William Putnam as well

No idea at offensive tackle... Keep recruiting 5* Wanya Morris & hope can get 5* Devontae Dobbs & Xavier Truss back on campus. Guessing some more names pop up in coming weeks

We cannot afford to miss on more 4 or 5* OTs. Hopefully we are working on a few.

There's more than a SPARQ competition at the camps. There are also 7 on 7 competitions. It's possible 3 guys played better at these 7 on 7s & passed him in the ratings for the time being. It's not like the guy dropped from 5* territory or dropped from the #1 rated OLB.

The things some in our fan base look for to get rustled about.

I know it's not ideal but are there any JUCO guys in case we do whiff on high school kids again? Is there any chance Ashley and Troxell end up living up to something close to their high school ranking?

OTs are largely tough to evaluate. I'd LOVE to land the top 5* guys, but I'm more concerned with finding good tackles, regardless of rating. Just find some 6'6+, 260+ pound guys that have great feet and long arms and let Grimes do what he actually does well.

I'd love a plug and play 5*, but if we don't let's at least find some athletic dudes we can develop.

Sounds like Troxell is exceeding expectations so far and Ashley needs/needed a swift kick in the arse to get going. He apparently turned it on at the tail end of camp once he realized he was getting passed up by Troxell. I think one of those 2 can be solid, but IMO neither start over the grad transfer this year unless Ashley just absolutely flips the switch this offseason. Tega is locked in at LT.

I think that's a fair assessment based off what's been reported. Very interested to see how they handle Driscoll joining the battle. Hopefully motivates Ashley even more

Grimes told reporters the other day that he has Tega graded as a top end SEC talent right now & he's on the verge of being All-SEC good. That's high praise from Grimes. Hoping Tega has finally figured out how to play the position because he's got a chance to be special

How committed to Auburn is 5-star LB Owen Pappoe? (SECCountry)
quote:

The reality is: Every time I’ve called for mailbag questions this recruiting cycle, I’ve received something about 5-star linebacker Owen Pappoe.

Through the first few months of the year, those questions gradually evolved.

Does anyone have a chance to beat Georgia for Pappoe and is Auburn still recruiting him? Should we read anything into Pappoe’s junior day visit? Does the multiday trip mean Auburn is making a move? Why should we believe Auburn can beat out Georgia given the 2018 cycle? Are the Tigers really going to land Pappoe?

Since his commitment to Auburn, Pappoe questions have taken a foreseeable turn.

The new question, as asked in the second part from @mitchwat81: How committed to Auburn is Pappoe?

I understand this will be a hot topic this summer and fall. Whenever I ask for mailbag questions, I’m going to receive something similar to this. So let this be the definitive answer I’m giving for the next few months so the Pappoe concern storyline isn’t overplayed — at least in this SEC Country space. If you ask me a similar question in the future, I’ll likely shoot you this link rather than answer it again (unless something shifts drastically).

Speculation runs rampant in recruiting. It’s part of it. As hard as I try to base my coverage on facts and sourcing, speculation even leaks its way into my articles from time to time. But when it comes to talking about de-commitments, speculation can be a reckless game.

Publicly, Pappoe says and does everything he’s supposed to — and that’s all I’m willing to use to judge the stability of his commitment.

On social media, Pappoe has gone full Auburn on his Twitter header/bio, is actively recruiting other players to Auburn and dedicated an Auburn-centric Instagram post to his mother for Mother’s Day.

But social media proof might not be enough for some people, and I get that. For those people, all I can do is point you to a question I asked Pappoe immediately after making his commitment to Auburn, which in essence, is the same type of thing the rest of you have asked me for my mailbags.

My question, in some form: What kind of shot does Georgia still have to flip you from Auburn?

Pappoe’s response: “I’m not even thinking about anything like that right now. I’m really not. My mind is all Auburn. My mind has been all Auburn for a while. I’m really not even thinking about that at all. I’m thinking about committing. I’m thinking about recruiting for Auburn. That’s it.”

Think about those words when you see the headline this summer or fall — and you likely will see this headline: 5-star Auburn LB commit Owen Pappoe visits Georgia. Even if (more likely when) you see that, remember Pappoe was recruited heavily for four years without committing. When he finally did, he knew his choice was his choice. It would take something earth-shattering to change that.
