HE’s faster than a 4.7. He ran a 4.34at Bama’s camp. He is a solid 4.45-4.5 guy. Plenty fast to be a RB. His size and hands are just so good, that using him just as a RB would be a waste.

That’s Shivers. I can’t wait to watch him. Dude is awesome.

Just for clarity #5 is Joiner, #8 is Shivers and #30 Harris

40 times are almost irrelevant for RBs...

L. Bell (PIT): 4.60
K. Hunt (KC): 4.62
CJ Anderson (DEN): 4.60

If Joiner is currently running a 4.7, there is no reason why he couldn't improve to a 4.6 in a college strength & conditioning program.

I agree that a 40 yard dash in and of itself doesn't mean anything, but speed means A LOT. I saw the numbers from Bama's camp, but the 4.7 was from a Nike camp so who know's what's accurate. He's going to get bigger which I think is going to slow him down a little more too(it wouldn't shock me if he put on 10-20 lbs before next season).. I'm not knocking him at all, just my prediction is he ends up at TE and ends up being really good.

We would get considerably more production from Joiner at RB. Malzahn's TE has been a blocker/ghost since Lutz. You can effectively use 3 or 4 running backs (UGA/Bama 2017). Maybe Gus wises up because we have a stable of good backs right now.

Joiner reminds me of Derrick Henry with his running style. I’m curious to see him run the ball in the sec.

Time will tell. Lindsey likes to use the TE much more than Gus does though. Uzomah was decent under Malzahn too

You say that about Lindsey, but we had maybe 12 targets and 8 catches out of the HBs and TEs combined this year.

*The difference in targets and catches were probably all Canella drops.

Lack of options to throw to imo. He made it a point to recruit Shenker last year, but redshirted him (I think hoping Canella would work out). I'm actually really interested to see if we hear anything about Shenker's development this off season.

All this talk about Joiner not liking contact reminds me of a quote:

"Initially he did not enjoy the roughness of football and thought about quitting but his friends convinced him to continue playing"....he went on to become known as the Nigerian Nightmare, Christian Akoye.

Ya never know.

Gus should draw up a double woody play with Shivers and Hastings and call it Ebony and Ivory.

That's not usually how it works. Typically the guys that are adding muscle weight are not going to get any slower. If anything their added power in their legs may lead to a slight increase in speed.

Aside from this, I'd love for Gus to use Joiner in a similar manner to how we used Mario Fannin (and of course how Tulsa used Clay).

Recruiting insider: Latest updates on Auburn’s 14 official visitors, including newest commit (SECCountry)
quote:

3-star TE Matt Alaimo, Montvale, N.J.

- After leaving his official visit, tight end Matt Alaimo said the Tigers are the top for him right now. He said it’s going to be tough for another school to top the Tigers. So why not commit on the visit? He has one other trip planned that he wants to take before announcing.
- Alaimo will take an official visit to Texas A&M next weekend. He’s also hearing from UCLA and Oregon, but there aren’t any visits set in stone aside from the one to College Station next weekend.
- Most of his conversations with Auburn coaches this weekend were about the ability for a tight end to come in and have an effect immediately. Auburn lacks a true pass-catching tight end. Alaimo has been told he’s exactly what the Tigers are looking for from that position.
- Alaimo doesn’t expect his process to run all the way to National Signing Day. Some time after the official visit to Texas A&M, he thinks he’ll make his decision.
- One of the highlights for his visit: He went fishing for the first time. The New Jersey native got to do some fishing at Gus Malzahn’s house, which was an experience he spoke highly about following his visit.

3-star ATH commit Kolbi Fuqua, Cordova, Ala.

- Kolbi Fuqua still considers himself a firm commitment in this class and fully expects to ink with the Tigers on Feb. 7. Fuqua said the staff is just telling him to be patient and everything will work itself out leading up to National Signing Day.
- Fuqua didn’t go into much detail about the decision to not sign, only that it was something he’d wanted to do. Now he has to wait, but doesn’t think he’ll be on the outside looking in for Auburn’s 2018 class.
- He has been dealing with a shoulder injury that he suffered late in his high school football season. That injury was part of the reason the Tigers wanted to wait and get him on his official visit. After the visit, Fuqua said everything is fine with the team’s potential concerns about his shoulder.
- Perhaps the most interesting part of it all is that Fuqua doesn’t look like someone who is taking other visits or checking out other schools just to be safe. Fuqua is all Auburn and said he hasn’t been hearing from other programs or considered visits to other schools.

Seems like Fuqua will do what it takes to go to AU even if that means taking a grayshirt

4-star LB signee Michael Harris, Tucker, Ga.

- Michael Harris is a regular at Auburn, so his official visit didn’t necessarily show him anything new. He got a better feel for the academic and non-football side of things, which makes him feel even more comfortable about his choice.
- Harris spent the majority of his visit in the ear of his Tucker High School teammate Dylan Wonnum. Harris said he’s been receiving positive vibes from Wonnum throughout the weekend and in recent weeks, but he’s also fully aware of the threat South Carolina — and maybe even Tennessee — presents. He said he won’t give up on Wonnum until he hears otherwise, however.
- Harris provided some interesting insight into another key prospect’s recruitment, too. He has become close with 4-star wide receiver commit Matthew Hill who didn’t sign early because of a hard push from Clemson. Hill has told Harris that he fully intends to sign with Auburn in February. In fact, the two are going to start training together in the Atlanta metro area. If Harris has his way, he said Hill will be his freshman year roommate.
