Joey Gatewood was named one of the UA MVPs. I'm super pumped about this guy in the coming years, if we get Nix we will have a really good QB problem on our hands.

If/when JJ Peterson picks bama, does that make Quay Walker flip finally? We have wanted him at buck for years, he wants playing time and his good buddy big cat came in and played as a true freshman.
Makes me wonder if Jibunor is still a take. We have two linebackers signed and Marsh would make a third. He is a legit 215 pounds I dont think he ends up a safety after a year of S&C.
You get Quay you have your buck, Oladele at strongside, two interior linemen, and three backers. Bet Jibunor wishes he had figured out that signing thingy.
I am excited about the potential for closing on CB and linemen. And I hope we take Joiner as an Hback.

You think top players commit to a school to catch a single pass each game?

Does NCM just not get enough separation?
I had high hopes for him.

1. All indications are that JJ Peterson is picking UT.
2. Most indications are that when/if Quay does flip at this point it's going to be to UGA.

He doesn’t get separation very well but his hands are solid. He made several clutch third down catches but they were always at the start of the game and then he mostly disappears.
I wonder what Auburn’s WR recruits see in our passing offense. Schwartz would be fine with the Ryan Davis role, but what is our 2019 commitment seeing? Is he a deep threat WR? If he’s not a deep threat WR and if he’s not a tunnel screen guy, then he’s a blocker. That’s basically what NCM has become.

Thanks for chopping my buzz Savage. Ga eating more 5 stars than hot dogs at Nathans eating contest. And yes Walker should be a 5 star, probably will be when they pick him up.

Really glad he’s coming to Auburn...
But for real...what the heck are all these WR’s doing coming to Auburn in the same class? Even better yet is what are the coaches thinking? Why take 5 in a class when you don’t utilize that many in your game plans.
Gus talks all the time about “Auburns a run-first Team”, there’s no proof to that stopping any time soon too.
I’m all for taking Schwartz but I don’t get it one bit.
Well I have a few guesses. First AU only took one WR in last year's class. Whitlow has move to running back so that leaves Iggy as the only WR. Part of recruiting is preparing for future departures. That 2016 WR class has already lost one member in Kyle Davis and two will be juniors. Ryan Davis & Will Hastings will also both be seniors next year. Have to start bringing guys in to replace them now
As for why the staff is taking 4 (I don't see Ross coming here so I doubt we take 5) my guess is that's somewhat dictated by the talent in this class. This year's cycle is loaded at WR. AU is capitalizing on that this cycle. Would be hard to say no to really any of these guys that wanted to jump on board so you take em and build depth for the future. Also I think it's clear Lindsey has a lot of say in the personnel taken on offensive side which is why AU is hellbent on taking a true tight end. He used one as both an H-Back & TE at his previous stops. My guess is he wants more weapons at WR as well
I know we as AU fans are still jaded by how the season ended but truth is AU had one of the best offenses in the SEC this year when it got to the SEC schedule. Kids wanna play in an explosive offense & AU showed that this year. Lots of kids have commented on how much better we looked offensively this season. We spread the ball around but also all these guys believe they will be the one to take all those targets when Ryan Davis & Darius Slayton are gone.
This isn't directed at you but I do think it's funny all last cycle people were pissed about Burns's recruiting and fact we only had one true WR. Now we have four WRs with three ranked in the top 175 nationally & we are debating why that's happening

Could be wrong, but I was told as early as yesterday that Quay was coming to Auburn. I dunno. Not first hand info I, personally, got. My assumption was that if Felton got the 10th assistant job that Quay was all AU.

Peterson is going to Tennessee. He's following Pruitt and I think rumors are his HS coach is gonna coach WRs for the Vols. But Peterson won't have any affect on Walker outside of Bama now wanting to keep him even more. Most seem to think Walker is gonna flip. Question is to where? It's not a lock to UGA as some have implied but it's gonna be a battle. Don't sleep on UF either as Walker admits he grew up a Gator fan. Also he's gonna visit Pruitt at Tennessee the final weekend & Walker has always struck me as a kid that team that got last visit has best shot at snagging him

All reports are Jibunor is still a take. Staff love his potential. I do agree tho that Marsh will eventually be a linebacker

Quay could play any of AU's three LB positions. Would be interesting to see where he would land at. I would prefer him at a true linebacker spot but he could be nasty coming off the edge to at the Buck

No doubt AU is swinging for the fences. Hard after three CBs ranked in the top 50 overall & after four OTs ranked in the top 150 overall. If they can get at least one from each that would be a huge boost to this signing class. As for Joiner, AU appears to be recruiting him purely at RB now. Not sure if that's lip service to get him on board but that's the message. Will find out next weekend if we will indeed take a 3rd back with both Joiner & Smoke taking an OV

Top commits always envision themselves being the guy that gets all the targets. I imagine all 4 think they will be the ones to replace Ryan Davis & Darius Slayton

Exactly. NCM isn't the best route runner. However, he's a 50/50 ball type of guy, problem is Stidham refuses to throw those type of passes. Hoping NCM improves at getting separation this offseason. Needs to buddy up with Ryan Davis & work on his footwork

I had high hopes for him.
He's still had a very important role in our offense. He's one of our better blockers on the perimeter & seems like starting to get more looks in the redzone. I wouldn't give up hope just yet. He plays a ton of snaps & if he can start getting open more, Stidham will find him. Still think has a chance to have a big year in the next 2 seasons

FWIW a lot of these recruits are nowhere near as down on AU as fans seem to be after our finish. Guys like William Barnes & Anthony Schwartz have said that AU had a great year even tho they didn't finish like they wanted & that AU is building something special. It might not feel like it right now with Bama/UGA in the title & us having lost to freaking UCF but those final weeks of regular season had an impact. It's why a lot of these guys are giving AU a harder look here in the final month

WR Schwartz commits to Auburn (247)
quote:
ORLANDO, Fla. – Auburn landed a huge commitment Thursday night when Plantation (Fla.) American Heritage four-star receiver Anthony Schwartz picked the Tigers over Florida and Georgia at the Under Armour All-America game. The 6-foot, 175-pound Schwartz is Auburn’s 21 member of the 2018 recruiting class.
“It’s how I feel over there,” Schwartz said of why he committed to Auburn. “How comfortable I am over there. I feel they have a great thing going with their offense.”
Schwartz created national buzz last spring when he ripped of a 10.15-second 100-meter dash during a track meet for one of fastest times ever. Auburn head coach Gus Malzahn is happy to add that speed to his receiving corps.
“He said he needs my speed and he needs more receivers,” Schwartz said of Malzahn. “We see they’re starting to pass the ball more, so he wants us to come in and keep that going.”
The Sunshine State product also believes he will get the ball plenty in the Tigers’ offense.
“My position I’m going to play there, I feel like I can get a lot of touches. They’ve been passing the ball a lot more this year, and I feel like they are going to keep going that way.”
As a senior, Schwartz caught 25 passes for 507 yards and seven touchdowns. The 247Sports Composite, an industry generated average, currently ranks Schwartz as the nation’s No. 153 overall recruit in the 2018 class.

BREAKING: Auburn lands commitment from 4-star wide receiver Anthony Schwartz (SECCountry)
quote:
The fastest recruit in the country will play for Auburn.
Anthony Schwartz, the 4-star wide receiver from Plantation, Fla., committed to Auburn over Florida during the Under Armour All-America Game broadcast on ESPN2. Schwartz is well-known as one of fastest, if not the fastest prospect in the country, which he flaunts in track with his World Youth Record time of 10.15 seconds in the 100-meter dash.
Auburn made a serious turn for Schwartz when he realized the Tigers’ improvement in the passing game during the 2017 season.
“I saw them throwing the ball a lot more this year and then have an amazing season,” Schwartz said earlier in the week. “They said I’m the only receiver they’re getting at my position on the field. They want me because, the last time they were No. 1 in the nation, they had all fast receivers and were No. 1 in yards per catch with the No. 2 offense in SEC all-time.”
Florida remained the industry favorite for Schwartz until Jim McElwain was replaced by Dan Mullen. During that coaching change, Schwartz began to realize his coaching relationships were stronger with Auburn’s staff — specifically wide receivers coach Kodi Burns and his area recruiter Larry Porter — than with anyone at Florida.
In fact, when Burns and Porter went in-home with Schwartz in December, Schwartz informed them he was ready to commit to Auburn sometime in January.
“I told them. They were just excited and can’t wait for me to come on,” Scwhartz said. “I feel like it was just the right time. I finally started rushing myself. I thought everything through. I felt like this was going to be the right time. I’m taking a big weight off my back. I’m going to be relieved, excited and ready for my next chapter.”
Schwartz didn’t want to sign during the early signing period because he hadn’t taken any official visits yet.
Even with his decision, it’s possible he takes an official visit to Florida or other schools. But Schwartz also conceded the Auburn staff may prefer he not do that, in which case he’ll stick to just taking an official visit to Auburn.
With Schwartz’s commitment, the Tigers now have four wide receiver commitments or signees, joining Shedrick Jackson, Seth Williams and Matthew Hill. Auburn’s 2018 class jumps Oklahoma in the team recruiting rankings to move from No. 10 to No. 9.
Schwartz is the No. 28-ranked wide receiver in the nation. He’s the No. 153 overall player nationally. In his senior season, Schwartz caught 25 passes for 507 yards and 7 touchdowns. Most of his touchdown damage came during American Heritage’s state championship run.

5 things Auburn fans should know about wide receiver commit Anthony Schwartz (SECCountry)
quote:
Auburn picked up a major commitment on Thursday when 4-star wide receiver Anthony Schwartz committed to the Tigers.
The American Heritage (Fla.) talent chose Auburn over Florida during a live broadcast of the Under Armour All-America Game on ESPN2. Schwartz’s commitment moved the Tigers up a spot in the 247Sports composite team rankings — from No. 10 to No. 9.
Here are five things you should know about Auburn’s newest commit:

1. Anthony Schwartz is fastest recruit in country, and that isn’t an exaggeration.
When you hear “fastest recruit in the country,” it can easily come off as hyperbole. And when that moniker sits beside most prospects, it probably is exaggerated.
For Schwartz, it’s accurate.
In March, the 4-star wide receiver participated in the Florida Relays, a big Sunshine State track event. He blew past the 100-meter dash competition — past and present — with a time of 10.15 seconds. That time set the World Youth Record previously set at 10.17 seconds.
To give an idea of how much the World Youth Record translates to the future, the record-holder for the 200-meter youth record is Usain Bolt. So yeah, Schwartz has Olympic-caliber speed.

quote:
2. He was so fast that Carl Lewis — yes, that Carl Lewis — wanted him on a track-only scholarship. Instead he’ll run track and play football at Auburn.
One of the biggest factors for Schwartz was whether the football staff would allow him to run sprints at his chosen school. Florida and Auburn were the two programs he liked the most that were OK with him running track.
But those weren’t the only two schools that wanted Schwartz as a track athlete.
For a while, Schwartz flirted with the possibility of taking a track-only scholarship to run at Houston. Ultimately, his love for football took over, but it wasn’t an easy decision for him.
The main reason for that tough decision was the Houston coach recruiting him to run track. Legendary sprinter Carl Lewis recruited Schwartz throughout 2017 to sprint for the Cougars. It’s not easy to to tell a nine-time Olympic gold medalist “no,” but that’s exactly what Schwartz had to do to choose Auburn.
