A Flurry of Visit Destinations Are on the Calendar for Coveted 2018 TE Zach Sheffer (Scout)
quote:
All schools are on a level playing field for tight end, Zach Sheffer, who lists LSU, Ohio State, Auburn, Mississippi, Virginia Tech and Oklahoma State as schools recruiting him hardest.
Sheffer, a 6-foot-3, 230-pound junior at Ponte Vedra (Fla.) Nease, reeled in 45 passes for 607 yards and five touchdowns during the 2016 season.
"I'm still evaluating my options," Sheffer said. "I want to visit the schools that are recruiting me the hardest before I name a leader, but it is starting to become more clear."
The three-star prospect has a visit scheduled with Oklahoma State for April 15, and also hopes to swing through LSU's campus on April 22, but will first stop at Ohio State next weekend.
"I'm going up there in two weeks. I'm very excited to check out Columbus," Sheffer said. "I hear from (offensive coordinator/tight ends) coach (Kevin) Wilson, (quarterbacks coach Ryan) Day, and (head coach Urban) Meyer every day.
"I know they have a big-time program, and coach Meyer and coach Wilson both have had a great deal of success with tight ends. I would compare my game very closely with Jordan Reed, who of course played for coach Meyer."
Sheffer, who is armed with roughly 25 offers overall, says coach Gus Malzahn and Auburn continue to ramp up the pressure with coach Larry Porter now seasoning up the tight ends for the Tigers.
"They've really been coming on strong since coach Porter came on board, and (offensive line) coach (Herb) Hand has visited school every contact period since they offered," Sheffer said. "They say the tight end position is going to be a big priority going forward."
The Sunshine State native has done his homework on coach Matt Canada, LSU's offensive play-caller, and found a whole lot of similarities to the offensive attack at his high school.
"I'm really excited to see the changes in their offense with coach Canada," Sheffer said. "I've watched some film from when he was at Pitt, and they use the position very similar to how we do at Nease.
"I often talk with (tight ends) coach (Steve) Ensminger and he seems like a really good guy."
Auburn and Virginia Tech are additional schools on Sheffer's visit radar.

Tennessee OL Jerome Carvin talks Alabama, Auburn offers (AL.com)
quote:
Alabama and Auburn are pursuing interior linemen in this recruiting class, and both like what they see in Cordova, Tenn., standout Jerome Carvin.
Carvin, who measured in at 6-foot-4 and 330 pounds on Sunday at the New Orleans Opening Regional, said he has good relationships with Alabama offensive line coach Brent Key and Auburn offensive line coach Herb Hand.
Both schools have offered Carvin, a three-star recruit in the 247Sports composite.
"They like how I move," Carvin said. "They say I can really move being as big as I am and I'm relentless."
Alabama offered Carvin before a recent Junior Day.
"That was a big offer for me," Carvin said. I've been talking to them since tenth grade and I've been there about four times. I know almost everything about Alabama."
He'll make his first trip to Auburn on April 8 for the spring game. He plans to visit Alabama again sometime in April, either before or during the spring game on April 22.
Other schools in the mix include Ole Miss, Mississippi State, South Carolina, Kentucky, Louisville, Missouri and Memphis.
Carvin said Alabama's facilties, weight room and tradition stand out. He said he talks to Hand every day on the Auburn side, and knows former Auburn offensive tackle Shon Coleman.
He is being recruited as a guard by both schools.
When asked what he's most looking for, Carvin said, "Academics first. My development as a player on the offensive line. Weight room, having a good strength and conditioning program and the team as a whole. I don't have to play right away, but I want to get developed and I want to be ready."
He described his relentless motor as something he can bring to a team, along with positive attitude and effort.
Carvin said he wants to make his commitment before his senior season at Cordova High School.

Projected QB/RB/WR class is hot. Will dedicate 10 minutes of my morning for personal business.

Optimistically, only seven 3 star recruits are projected to Auburn.
Optimal scenario:
2-3 five stars
15-17 four stars
and a hand full of three stars

I'd like to see a couple of more DTs added to this list even if they were projects.

Apparently Danfernee Mcgriff was the player that Kiffin received as a result of being a sleezeball to one of Bama's former players.
He just cannot catch a break.

I would too.

I imagine McGriff will do extremely well in Briles/Kiffin's offense at FAU. I hope the kid does well, he seemed to handle the parting ways w AU really well/respectfully.
He may have got screwed on the terms of his signing, but he may end up with a net positive deal in the long run

What's the hesitation with Alfred Thomas?

Apparently Florida leads for Asa Martin and Florida is his family's choice.

Not surprised Gators have been coming strong the past month. He is supposed to be back on campus for A-Day. Hopefully we blow him and family away tho to be honest I am not sold on him yet. Interested to see what he does his senior year

SECCountry has another top 10 article this time on defensive players. Will do a post for each because article so long
Auburn recruiting: Top 10 defensive prospects in 2018 class (SECCountry)
Auburn recruiting: Top 10 defensive prospects in 2018 class (SECCountry)
quote:
In the early going, Auburn has one defensive commitment in 2018 — defensive end Daquan Newkirk.
He originally committed to the Tigers in the 2016 recruiting class, but academics pushed him to Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College, where he has repledged to Auburn. That’s Auburn’s only commit on the defensive side of the ball so far, but the Tigers have been active with defensive prospects.
Auburn expects to take 20 or so prospects in the 2018 recruiting class. So, assuming roughly half of them are on the defensive side, the Tigers will add about 10 defenders in the group.
Here’s a look at the top 10 prospects Auburn covets on defense:
Posted on 3/23/17 at 5:22 am to TigerPaw1
quote:
4-star CB Jalyn Armour-Davis, St. Paul’s Episcopal (Ala.)
Ranking: No. 13 cornerback, No. 2 in Alabama, No. 93 overall
Skinny: Auburn began recruiting Armour-Davis well before Greg Brown joined the staff, but the state’s No. 1 defensive prospect remains the top defensive back target. Armour-Davis emerged on the recruiting scene thanks to the Auburn offer, which was his first.
Now, he’s a top-100 prospect who has offers from all the top programs imaginable: Auburn, Alabama, LSU, Georgia, Florida, Florida State, LSU and many others. Those aforementioned programs are listed among Armour-Davis’ top schools.
He plans to make his final decision before his senior season. Auburn is the smart pick at this point, but Armour-Davis has been impressed by Florida State since his unofficial visit earlier this month. Auburn will be in it until the end because of the initial offer.
“Auburn’s always been one of my top schools. They were the first school to offer me. That played a huge role,” Armour-Davis said earlier this month. “Every time I come here, it just feels like a home.”
Posted on 3/23/17 at 5:23 am to TigerPaw1
quote:
3-star DE Andres Fox, Mobile Christian (Ala.)
Ranking: No. 29 weakside defensive end, No. 17 in Alabama, No. 562 overall
Skinny: Fox’s ranking isn’t done rising. He still sits outside the top 500 nationally, but that will almost certainly change. Just look at the programs he’s considering: Alabama, Auburn, LSU, Florida State, Florida, Georgia and Southern Cal. Those are the schools in the running for the pass-rushing defensive end.
Fox grew up an Alabama fan, so many consider the Crimson Tide the favorite. Alabama will undoubtedly make a major push for Fox, but it’s actually Auburn — the team that initiated Fox’s recruitment — that the 247Sports Crystal Ball favors.
“I have a great relationship with all three of the defensive coaches. Coach (Rodney) Garner, coach T-Will (Travis Williams) and coach Kevin Steele. I met Gus one time in his office,” Fox said. “I really just like all the atmosphere.”
He wants to make his decision prior to his senior year to remain “loyal” to a school leading up to National Signing Day. Auburn is in the driver’s seat.
