Linebacker (1): 4-star Michael Harris (Tucker, Ga.), 4-star Zakoby McClain (Valdosta, Ga.)

Michael Harris is already committed. I wouldn’t be surprised to see him take a few more visits, maybe even some official visits. But don’t worry here. Harris will be an Auburn Tiger in the end.

I only expect Auburn to take two linebackers, so there are a few names that are obvious to turn to. Channing Tindall, who I think will end up at South Carolina. Adam Anderson, who my projection right now would put him at Georgia or Alabama. JJ Peterson, who might be the most likely of the group to surprise and choose Auburn, but the Crimson Tide are the team to beat. And Quay Walker, an Alabama commit, who might have some flip potential for Auburn, Florida State or Georgia.

None of those options seems realistic enough to put them in the class projection for now.

So the addition I did make will probably surprise some people. McClain has no-showed on visits to several different schools. Once thought to be a strong Auburn lean, he almost committed to LSU last weekend but never made the visit.

But here’s the deal. I think Auburn takes two linebackers. And even with his inconsistencies, McClain is still an elite-level linebacker. When the class comes to an end, the Tigers are going to want someone to couple with Harris, and if the other options follow the path I expect them to, the McClain will likely be the next man up.

Misses: Channing Tindall, Adam Anderson, JJ Peterson, Quay Walker

Safety (4): 4-star Quindarious Monday (Atlanta, Ga.), 3-star Kolbi Fuqua (Cordova, Ala.), 3-star Jamien Sherwood (Jensen Beach, Fla.), 3-star Josh Marsh (Decatur, Ala.)

Everyone is committed. I really don’t have much to say here. Auburn sought out to shore up the safety room early on in the 2018 class, and that’s taken care of. Quindarious Monday could take a few visits to Clemson or Georgia, but in the end, I think he sticks with Auburn. Marsh, Sherwood and Fuqua seem like locks to stay in the class.

Cornerback (1): 3-star Derek Turner (West Feliciana, La.)

I’m going to ride with this one, just like last month.

Derek Turner camped with Auburn earlier in the summer and stayed overnight for the recruiting cookout. When he left, he called Auburn his leader and said he was on the verge of making a decision. He hasn’t committed yet, instead waiting at the request of a few top programs, including Auburn.

The Tigers would love to flip a guy like Kyler McMichael from Clemson, but if that doesn’t seem like a realistic option, Turner will likely be next in line.

I only think Auburn will take one cornerback in this class regardless, unless it finds a junior college option it likes. In the end, I expect Turner to be the best option.

Misses: Christian Tutt, Kyler McMichael, Jalyn Armour-Davis

Struggles vs. Clemson 'don't hurt' Auburn with Trey Hill (247)
quote:

WARNER ROBINS, Ga., — Trey Hill wasn’t overly impressed by Auburn’s offensive line play last week against Clemson. But the 4-star guard/center from Houston County (Ga.) wasn’t deterred either.

“It doesn’t hurt Auburn,” Hill said. “It’s just them finishing. I still think they’re going to have a pretty good season. I think they can get over the hump now since they’ve got a quarterback.”

Hill arguably is one of Auburn’s top three or four overall targets. He’s 6-feet-3.5, 346 pounds and is the No. 34 recruit nationally in the 247Sports Composite.

He could play guard or center in college.

Hill attended Auburn’s seasons opener against Georgia Southern -- his fourth trip there this year alone. He could return for another game or two, but that’s all to be determined.

Hill said he doesn’t have a leader, that he remains open. He plans to have a decision by sometime in December as he’ll be an early enrollee.

“I think I can just go in there, work and possibly start wherever I go,” Hilll said.

He noted, “You’ve just got to go where you fit best.”

Auburn isn’t just selling Hill on fit, but on a potentially favorable depth chart. The Tigers are set to lose four of their top six offensive linemen on the interior.

“Yeah, that’s important,’ Hill said.

4* RB Asa Martin (AU Commit)
3* ATH/S Kolbi Fuqua (AU Commit)
3* WR Shedrick Jackson (AU Commit)
3* ATH Josh Marsh (AU Commit)
3* DE/DT Daquan Newkirk (AU Commit)
3* OG Kameron Stutts (AU Commit)
3* CB Terrell Smith
2019 5* C Clay Webb
2019 4* OT/OG Keiondre Jones
2019 4* OT Pierce Quick (Bama commit)
2019 4* WR Shamar Nash
2019 3* ATH Malik Washington --> I think he's related or at least close with Brad Lester

Summary of KN's recruiting insider from yesterday

- AU will have 3 assistant coaches on the road today. Kodi Burns is going to visit Hoover to see Shedrick Jackson and George Pickens. Rodney Garner is going to Birmingham to check out Coynis Miller and Jalen Cunningham. Not sure where Herb Hand will be but expects him to stay in AL/GA region

- Not 100% certain AU will take 2 QBs if they miss on Justin Fields. AU very happy with Joey Gatewood and how he's looked early this season. They also know they have a good shot at 2019 QB Bo Nix. AU doesn't send coordinators out on the road to recruit night before a game so Chip Lindsey will probably watch Joey Gatewood in person on October 27th. As for Fields, LSU feels good after visit while AU is trying to get Fields back on campus. Says lid is pretty tight on this recruitment

- AU not feeling as good about flipping 4* CB Kyler McMichael. After Clemson got wind of his last unofficial visit the weekend before season started they have shored up his verbal. AU will continue to push for McMichael tho. Says AU is looking hard for a top corner in the junior college ranks. AU really likes 4* Saivion Smith formerly of LSU. Expect AU to check him out later this year, teammates with Daquan Newkirk

- 4* OT Dylan Wonnum has told AU a decision won't come until December. However, KN says that could always change

- AU's first big recruiting weekend will be in a few weeks when the play Mississippi State. AU expects a strong visitor list and some official visits

- KN is convinced Marsh is an SEC level player after seeing him live. Thinks he ends up at safety unless he gets bigger. Says got a unique talent and is very fast.

- Apparently Newkirk is just shy of 300 lbs and starts at DT for his JUCO. He will have 3 years of eligibility when he arrives at AU

- Bama is now pushing harder for Tommy Bush instead of Seth Williams now that Justyn Ross is trending Clemson. If Tide land Bush that could really help AU get Williams

- Richard Jibunor will be at UF/TEN game and a decision could come soon after. Both of those teams are AU's biggest threat

It's a really weird situation. He switched to WR, there was a ton of hype about him being the next big thing then he was suspended for the season by the University. Urban Meyer publicly disagreed with the suspension. After season, he transferred to Cincy briefly before landing at Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College

Let's wait to see whose offense we are running first.

We thought Kyle Davis and NCM were going to be monsters too
