Basically what E is saying is that he thinks we get fields to commit if Auburn wins 9 or more games this year. E also thinks that Gus and the staff may get fired if Auburn win 8 or fewer games this year. If Gus and staff get fired this year it is unlikely that Nix comes to Auburn period.

I can buy into that. As long as that 9 win threshold is beating uga..

Fields isn't going to wait that long to commit. It's all about how we start if we are going to really be a player in the end.

Doesn't matter what he says till the end.... a hope to hold my spot... will mean little if the O is not the right type (no whirly - herp jerk - 2016). eta: and wins

I don't think our situation is as bad as most think. 2015 was an anomaly. No one saw JJ being that bad of a head case. 2014 we were top 5 in Nov. We played in a Sugar Bowl last year. Gus isn't getting fired this year regardless. No one close to the program thinks he will. JF wants to play ASAP. If JS plays well this year, and say UF needs a QB, I can see us missing on Fields. Nix would be a Tiger. And all reports so far indicate he is a fantastic QB. I will take a guy Jimbo is high on any day.

quote:I didn't say nor imply he would. I just didn't correct that part of Jamal's interpretation of my post since it was a minor detail because the last time I corrected something from his post it bugged him. JF will be committed to a team no later than October IMO. If that's us it won't be solid til we finish the season maintaining a good pass O and not crapping the bed the rest of the way allowing the staff to survive.
Fields isn't going to wait that long to commit.

Most people connected to the program I've seen have said countless times he's on the hot seat and likely won't survive if we win 8 or less & lose to Bama & UGA 4 times in a row for the 1st time in school history.
Now it can be debated whether the above should be the case or not but the reality is that's where things stand now.
Oh and backing into the Sugar Bowl last year at 8-5 is nothing to brag about. It just meant we were the highest rated mediocre team available.

I'll ban bet you he won't be fired this year regardless of the record.

You say that with something near smugness as if it is your opinion as well.
It’s apathy like this that contributes to mediocre seasons. If Gus doesn’t perform well this year with the players he has, he needs to GTFO. Period.
I’m not sure what else he could be given (except a bus ticket to division 3) that would help him win consistently.
We are stacked and everybody knows it. If we don’t win big this year, I can’t think of any reason to keep Gus. Not one.

People want to give Gus a pass because JJ “was such a head case”. That’s on Gus too IMO. Same for Kiehl Frazier. I'm not willing to yet say that two QB head cases constitutes a pattern, but one of the head coaches jobs is to sniff out problem recruits. If Gus doesn’t have the nose to sniff out problems, again, that’s on Gus.
Head coaches are paid for performance. Period. He’s been given all the necessary tools to succeed against even the toughest adversary. If Gus can’t perform, he needs to go.
If I hear the "but, but Nick Saban" exception again, I think I'll puke. If we are all just waiting around until Nick Saban retires, we might as well shut down this board and go home. Dabo didn't flinch last year and neither should we.
15-0 'Ship or Bust. That's my bar.

Gus wasn't the head coach for KF. If you use that as a talking point, he was also the OC for Cam Newton. Injuries on D were to blame for 2015 as much as JJ. 2014 and 2016 were good seasons. I love the way we play off a Sugar Bowl and NC appearance as not producing.

So given those efforts, no, the Sugar Bowl is not acceptable...especially when we got beat like a drum in it. There are a lot of Auburn people that expect to be in the race for the Championship every single year.

2014 and 2016 were good seasons.
2014 was not a good season. There is no way in hell that team should have lost 5 games.
2016 was ok given how we started but we still lost to a terrible UGA team and got embarrassed on a national stage in a Sugar Bowl we really didn't deserve to be in. Again 5 losses.
In what bizarro world is 5 losses a "good season"? Are we freaking Vanderbilt?

Well this isn't really true in normal circumstances but when it's after a 4 loss season with two more losses to your biggest rivals then yea it's nothing to brag about.

Those people aren't that smart.

do what? Kiehl was a hand picked by Gus Arkansas baw and the reason he came here.
from247: Frazier was recruited from Shiloh Christian (Springdale, AR) class of 2013. He committed to Auburn on 5/29/2010. He was recruited by Gus Malzahn

Is this on TV? I am watching Roc Thomas and JSU ATM.
ETA:
Correction. Roc is now on the bench due to having vision like an 80 year old women.
