War Room Summary by JLee
Best Guess Class Projection
5* QB Justin Fields
-AU sources like our chances & FSU sources feel we lead. (Been posted by other AU sources also. Here's hoping those Bunker Sources aren't JLee's source.)
-Fields told those close to him he want to break Cam's records in college doing it at AU.
-AU/FSU battle
If we get Fields Joey is predicted to go elsewhere.
5* WR Justyn Ross
-AU sources & those close to Ross feel AU leads.
-Getting Fields could be a clincher for AU to get Ross.
4* WR Matthew Hill
-Same stuff we have heard
3* WR Shedrich Jackson
4* APB Shaun Shivers
3* ATH Kolbi Fuqua
4* RB Asa Martin or 4* RB Dameon Pierce
-Doesn't think AU leads for either but likely top 2-3 for both.
3* OG Kameron Stutts
4* OG Jalil Irvin
4* OT Badara Traore
-Strong bond with Hand
-Will OV July 14-16
3* DT Daquan Newkirk
4* DT Coynis Miller
-Fairly confident here.
-Relationships w/ Grner, T-Will & Moultry are key
3* DE/Buck Andres Fox
-Tough call but been to AU a lot
4* Buck Richard Jibunor
-Those close to him feel AU leads Tennessee
-Could commit in July or August
4* LB Michael Harris
-Doesn't think he has a committable tOSU offer
4* LB ZaKoby McClain
-Thinks ZaKoby's relationship with T_Will beats LSU but it's really tightened up.
3* CB Juanyeh Thomas
-Likely commits in August
NR CB Charles McClelland
-Recruitment taken off since the AU offer
4* S Jamien Sherwood
-Almost named AU leader after BCW
3* S Joseph Foucha
-LSU could be a factor after they offered
3* ATH Nate Watson
- Not sure where he fits into the class as in WR, LB, or TE but thinks he will be in it.
Interesting notes
-JLee only has us signing 1 OT & only 22 overall
Interesting to see Watson in there. I like him and wouldn't mind taking him just hadn't heard us mentioned with him much. Also I really hope all this AU confidence with Fields is legit because there's nothing coming out much publicly that backs it up so far

Where are we now with Harold Joiner since LSU has a bunch of RBs committed?
Posted on 6/27/17 at 3:35 pm to AuburnCPA
quote:Why? If we get Pierce or maybe Martin we will have 3 RBs in 2018 that can do the heavy work between the tackles even if Bubba goes pro as expected.
we need RUNNING BACKS!

quote:TBD. Unless we start liking him at RB I don't see us getting him. A lot of teams are still recruiting him & it likely only takes 1 to recruit him solely as a RB to land him.

Welp... 247 has update on 3* S Joseph Foucha now that he has LSU offer. He says it does change things and LSU is now firmly in the race. Plans to cut his list down to 5 this summer with a high likelihood of AU & LSU both making the cut
If we lose both Foucha and Monday I am gonna be pretty salty.... Doesn't sound like Bama is gonna push for 4* S Myles Mason so maybe we can snag him up

FIFY. Been saying it for three years. Its amazing we can not recruit talent at the RB position. Everyone is a project or we just get lucky

4* CB Jordan Miner announcing July 6th. Recent CB picks are for Penn State

As far as not getting elite recruited talent consistently it's not amazing at all. Kids want to get to the league. We haven't had anything NFL wise at RB in a while that stuck for a bit. Look at Zamir White's recruitment for example. In his interview shortly after he committed to UGA he said his favorite player is Gurley and that is who he models his game after. We may have really good college rbs who put up good stats but we REALLY need a guy to pop in the NFL and become a star for us to consistently get guys like Zamir or Cam Akers.

I have been saying it for years. People get so confident that we are going to pull in 5* running backs every year and I just laugh. We dont. And the ones we do are mislabeled. Anyone could see that Roc was not going to be a SEC back. I made posts on this board multiple times the first time we saw him run in the spring game.
He would never be a good SEC back and he wasn't. His style did not fit at all.
Javon was a damn project from the very beginning. From his first recruitment when he got popped for his grade issue. Never had a chance. Just a wasted scholly.
We are having to "make" running backs out of athletes and "others" . Just like Pettway. Who is a hell of a back. Malik is decent but not great and maybe this Devon kid will play out but we need to successfully recruit some talent at Running back. Some kids who are heavier than 175 pounds

Not really. All of bama's RBs have sucked in the NFL and Gurley averaged 50 ypg and 3 ypc last year.
Our RB recruiting has been fine, we just need to win more and it will continue that way.

But they make it to the NFL which is all you can do.
(another thing) - Discussion we had today (mixed crowd - lunch banter) was Saban was pitching the idea of making it to NFL with some rubber left of the wheels, while Gus was stuck in the mode of running 1-2 till medically done before reluctantly bringing next guy up.
Just wondering if BS or Not... the current pitch toward recruiting RB's?

And we didn't make Pettway a RB out of an athlete. He was a damn good RB out of high school on his own and that is why we recruited him solely as a RB. He was just underrated by the sites.
Davan is 190-195 & projects to grow to around 210.
I've never said we are going to pull in 5*s every year and we honestly don't need it. If we get a RB who can produce between the tackles he will do well at AU. That's just how our system works.
