I don't see how we went from train wreck last year to top 5 deep into the season this year. Impressive.

More stability, deeper pitching staff, better hitting, and most importantly we are a vastly improved defensive team. Our fielding percentage is nearly 50 points higher.

Butch Thompson could easily end up being the best head coach Auburn has ever hired. The transition from last year to this year is incredible.

Way early for that kind of praise

Yeah, but that is not saying much. I'll hold off on judgement, but if he can build a strong pitching staff year in and year out, we will be consistent. Birmingham is riddled with baseball talent, and for whatever reason, Auburn and Alabama have never exploited it. Hopefully he will take advantage of our home grown guys.

That's why I used the modifier "could."

Agree. The bar to achieve the title of "best Auburn head baseball coach ever" is pretty low.

We also have a fantastic recruiting class coming in for next year, I'm really interested to see if the Canadian kid ends up here.

Hal Baird was a pretty darn good coach man.

Also, anybody remember 2013? That turnaround may have been the most amazing in sports history. Been downhill since. Hopefully that doesn't happen in baseball but let's pump the brakes.

Admittedly don't follow baseball closely. How does post-season play work. Is it like basketball where teams get invited to CWS, or is all related to SEC tourney?

64 teams... 8 national seeds... 16 regional sites, with the winners of each regional paired up for a best 2 out of 3 for a spot in the College World Serioes.

It's similar to the basketball tourney... Just broken up into 8 "super regionals"... not 4 regions like basketball.

64 teams go to 16 regionals which are four team double elimination tournaments.

The 16 regional winners play in 8 super regionals which are Best of 3 series.

The 8 super regional winners go to the CWS, which itself starts as two four team double elimination brackets (except that the brackets flip after the first round). The two winners of these brackets play in a Best of 3 championship series.

One thing that's cool about college baseball is teams can literally come out of no where to win a title... rice, Oregon St, Fresno St, and coastal Carolina... just gotta have lights out pitching.

Hal Baird was a damn good coach. If Thompson can match that then we found ourselves a winner.

I guess some of you aren't old enough, but Paul Nix weren't no slouch back in the day either.
