To be fair, he's not talking to himself.

I find it funny that he got so pissed earlier about 2018 recruiting updates being in this thread, but is fine talking about Cecil fricking newton and something that happened 6 years ago.

I asked a harmless question and I was verbally scolded and my allegiance to Auburn questioned. You can put this all on me like Nola, but I'm not going to stop asking the questions that need to be asked.

Cecil was posing with a 2017 recruit this weekend so I'd think that questions would come up. People should be discussing what changed as to why Cecil is in good graces with Auburn and misdirect their anger away from me. It can be on another thread or it can be forgotten, whatever. Still worth the discussion if somebody is capable of it- and when I mean capable, I mean somebody willing to discuss something and not get their precious feelings hurt.

So considering the fact that Cecil Newton is around the program and there are pictures to prove it, what does that tell you?

Little to nothing. I don't follow anybody's decisions blindly.

Cecil got busted did he not? Common sense would tell you that's it's probably not a great idea to have him hanging around your program. Could there be something I don't know that people around the program know about the situation? Certainly. But with the facts we know right now, it's certainly reasonable to question his presence around the program.

There's probably just as much complaining about the thread as the other crap that y'all complain about. If you want 100% info then just go through Tigerprawl's history or get a subscription to one of the sites.

I would literally ignore everything he says that's antagonistic. Weirdly there are some people who feed off of negative attention. Retorts = attention. Downvotes = attention. Me right now ignoring my own advice = attention.

JUCO offensive guard will ‘very likely’ commit to Auburn before National Signing Day (SECCountry)
quote:

Matthew Tanner is almost ready to commit to the Auburn football program after his official visit this weekend. The 3-star offensive guard just has a few things to sort out first.

Tanner, who is the No. 4-rated JUCO offensive guard in the 247Sports Composite Rankings, said Sunday he is on the verge of committing to Auburn in the next 24 hours.

“It’s very likely,” Tanner said. “I just don’t want to announce it yet. It’ll most likely be tomorrow.”

Originally from Jacksonville, Fla., Tanner played his JUCO ball at Eastern Arizona College. He’ll have two years of eligibility at Auburn if he decides to sign with the Tigers.

The 6-foot-7, 345-pound Tanner talked extensively with Auburn offensive line coach Herb Hand during his official visit on what his role would be with the Tigers. Hand sees him as a crucial depth piece at guard after the departure of former All-SEC performer Alex Kozan.

“(Hand) was just telling me about his need at the guard position,” Tanner said. “If I come here, I could very well be an immediate impact. We were just talking about the depth chart and how well I fit in here. … Coach Hand really likes the guys that are starting right now, but it’s very well that I could be a second-string guy.”

Bowling Green and Mississippi State are also in the hunt for Tanner. But he said he will most likely land at Auburn after finishing some paperwork.

“They weren’t pushing for a commitment,” Tanner said. “We still have to get some things finalized before I commit.”

Tanner would be Auburn’s fourth offensive lineman commitment in the class of 2017. Auburn currently has pledges from 5-star offensive tackle Calvin Ashley and 4-star offensive tackle Austin Troxell. Four-star offensive guard Nick Brahms is already enrolled on campus.

“This is a great place to be,” Tanner said. “I really had no complaints or anything. Really enjoyed the facilities and meeting everyone. … This is a first-class place.”

Auburn commit John Samuel Shenker explains why he chose the Tigers (SECCountry)
quote:

Shenker’s visit gave him clarity on the offense to expect under Chip Lindsey.

The new Auburn offensive coordinator coached under Shenker’s high school coach Rush Propst when the two were at Hoover High (Ala.). That familiarity with Propst’s offense assured Shenker that the Tigers were the perfect landing spot.

Shenker said LIindsey told him to expect mostly one running back and one tight end personnel, which means the tight ends will be called upon to serve in pass-catching and H-back roles.

That’s what Shenker wants.

“We’ll use the same tight end split out, go down, use the H-back, do all three things at one time. That’s what I did all my high school career,” Shenker said. “It played so much (of a role). Coach Lindsey coached with coach Propst for a long time in his high school career. They have the same mentality and will use me the same way.”

Spencer’s commitment wrapped up a wild week that included an unexpected offer, an official visit and a commitment. He became the 20th commitment in Auburn’s 2017 recruitment class — the second tight end, joining early enrollee Salvatore Cannella.

“It was crazy. It was rushed, but it was great. I got a few offers a few weeks ago that kinda boosted to this offer,” Shenker said. “Definitely a little crazy, but this was the place to be.”

Hoping that means less substitutions and allows us to play somewhat fast again

Markaviest Bryant’s high school coach outlines Georgia-Auburn-LSU race for 4-star DE (SECCountry)
quote:

Will his mother’s absence from the trip be an Auburn deterrent?

“I think it hurts a little. I really do. She just couldn’t make it. It’s hard for a single parent to get off every week. Auburn was just the victim where she couldn’t get off this weekend,” Felton said.

Auburn made a splash with the visit regardless.

Bryant’s official visit included multiple hunting excursions and fishing at Gus Malzahn’s house. He spent time in the new game room. He chopped it up with freshman defensive lineman Derrick Brown who — coincidentally enough — was a top-ranked defensive lineman from Georgia who surprisingly spurned the Bulldogs for the Tigers.

quote:

“It’s hard to tell what order. My thing is I didn’t want to pressure him too much. I wanted to give him time to process,” Felton said. “But, my guess, I think it’s still Georgia with Auburn right in there.”

Felton’s impressions were Auburn made a significant push with this weekend’s conversations.

The focus was less on pitching Bryant to come to Auburn and more on showing him how he will fit. Kevin Steele and Rodney Garner laid out an in-depth plan how Bryant could step into the Buck defensive end role and excel as an SEC pass rusher right away.

“I think it’s just Coach Garner and the players. Coach Steele, they put together a great presentation and plan for him — how they’re going to use him, what he needs to work on, what the guys have to say about Coach Garner,” Felton said. “It just intrigued him, and it got Auburn up in the race.”

Bryant won’t host any coaching staffs on Sunday upon his return to Cordele (Ga.). Felton said Bryant is already “pretty close” to deciding, but the defensive lineman likely will make his final choice Monday. From there, they’ll let the staff of choice know. Bryant will announce it publicly at Crisp County High School at 11 a.m. ET on National Signing Day.

Signing Day preview: Auburn's top needs at defensive back (AL.com)
quote:

With four commitments in the secondary, Auburn is essentially done recruiting defensive backs.

Askew is the highest-rated prospect of the group, but will be learning a new position this spring. The 5-foot-10, 183-pounder played quarterback at McAdory last year and will be a cornerback at Auburn. He committed to Auburn over Alabama and Clemson and is already enrolled in classes. Askew is the nation's No. 8 "athlete" in the 247Sports Composite.

Leonard, the other cornerback commit, is ranked as the No. 121 cornerback. He flipped from North Carolina to Auburn in December. Four days later, former Auburn defensive backs coach Wesley McGriff became the defensive coordinator at Ole Miss. It didn't seem to effect Leonard's decision, as he remained committed to the Tigers and has hit it off with McGriff's replacement, Greg Brown.

At safety, Auburn has held a commitment from Carlito Gonzalez since August 2015. He originally committed to Travaris Robinson and Will Muschamp, so Brown is his third defensive backs recruiter at Auburn. Peters, a standout from Muscle Shoals, joined Auburn's class in August. He picked the Tigers over Ole Miss and Virginia Tech. Gonzalez is the No. 29 safety in the 247Sports Composite while Peters is ranked 88th.

Auburn loses plenty of talent and experience with the departures of Ford and Holsey. Ford was Auburn's leading tackler in 2014 and 2015 and finished his career with 275 total stops. After suffering two ACL tears, Holsey came back in 2016 and put together his best season by leading the team in pass breakups (10) and interceptions (three).

At nickel corner, Thomas is expected to take over in Ford's spot. Thomas posted 16 tackles in his freshman campaign and caught two interceptions in the Iron Bowl. Javaris Davis (37 tackles, two interceptions) is the favorite to take over for Holsey as Auburn's other starting cornerback opposite Carlton Davis.

Commitment remains 'very likely' for Auburn JUCO target Matthew Tanner (AL.com)
quote:

Earlier this week, Matthew Tanner said there was a "99 percent chance" he'd commit to Auburn after his official visit.

By Sunday those chances hadn't quite reached 100 percent for the 6-foot-7, 345-pound offensive guard at Eastern Arizona College.

"They weren't pushing (for a commitment) or anything," Tanner said. "We still have to get some things finalized before I commit... Just some paperwork, that's all. It's very likely, but I just don't want to announce it yet. Most likely tomorrow."

During his visit Tanner broke down the Auburn depth chart with offensive line coach Herb Hand, who began recruiting him in December.

"He was just telling me his need at the guard position and saying if I come here I could very well be an immediate impact," Tanner said. "We were just talking about the depth chart, how well I fit in here and stuff like that... Coach Hand really like the guys that are starting right now but it's very well I could be a second-string guy, who knows."

Auburn secures commitment from combo prospect John Samuel Shenker (AL.com)
quote:

Auburn picked up a commitment from John Samuel Shenker on Sunday following his official visit to the Plains.

"We had a great weekend," the 6-foot-3, 238-pound tight end said. "We got here on Friday, toured the campus and everything and fell in love with it. Then this morning I told (Gus) Malzahn I wanted to be a Tiger.

"It was a great experience. He was pumped. He's ready to get to work. (I'll) start working out, come here in May and get going this summer."

Shenker received Chip Lindsey's first offer as Auburn's new offensive coordinator Tuesday. The Tigers are recruiting him at tight end, H-back and receiver.

"It was definitely a little crazy, but this is the place to be," Shenker said when asked about his recruitment over the last week. "We'll use the same tight end to split out, go down and use as an H-back and do all three things at the same time. That's what I did all throughout my high school career... It really fits me."

Shenker is ranked as the nation's No. 96 tight end in the 247Sports Composite. He hauled in 30 passes for 451 yards and two touchdowns last fall for Colquitt County and former Hoover coach Rush Propst.

Well umm Rig does post in the threads with the most traffic.

He can't help you if the question "isn't it in the best interests of Auburn that Cecil stays away from the program" causes some people to lose their flipping minds. Because there is nothing wrong or malicious with that question. It could've been answered and been done with.

Tigers get commitment from tight end Shenker (247)
quote:

He’s now the second tight end in the 2017 class, joining January enrollee Salvatore Cannella — formerly of Scottsdale (Ariz.) Community College.

“I’ve always liked them,” Shenker said. “Since I was young I’ve gone to their games. It’s only two hours away. I’ve always grown up watching them.”

At one time, Shenker actually was an Auburn baseball commitment.

Now, though, he's focused on football.

"Committing for baseball, then changing my love to football, it didn't change how I felt about the campus and the school," Shenker said. "Not much changed."

So from what I can tell we have 5 spots left with 6 known guys on the board. It's not clear if we will try to fill all the spots up or leave 1-2 open for grad transfers. The 6 names we know that are out there are

4* LB Markail Benton - highly unlikely with visit getting leaked
4* DE Ryan Johnson - AU/STAN battle with both sides feeling good right now
4* DE Markaviest Bryant - AU/LSU/UGA battle, with no one super confident either way
4* LB Tyler Taylor - trending LSU but got visit from OK yesterday, Phillips flipping might make their depth chart look easiest now
3* OG Matthew Tanner - claims still some paperwork needs ironing out but then he will commit
3* DT Tyrone Truesdell - top 2 of AU/UF who both have him as backup plan, Bryant & Johnson supposed to let staff know decisions today which in turn will probably let Truesdell know if he can commit or not, FAU could be landing spot

The 2 names that were on board but are now off

3* TE John Samuel Shenker - committed to AU
3* TE Kemari Averett - AU passed for whatever reason

There could be other names that haven't come out yet but those are the names being talked about right now. We should learn about Johnson & Tanner today then possibly Taylor & Truesdell as well. So could be an interesting day
