Top performers from Day 2 of Army practice (247)
quote:

Oliver Martin, WR, Iowa

Martin found the end zone on a Tate Martell pass during the 7on7 period and he was sharp throughout the one-on-ones too. You can't even hear the ball touch his hands when he catches it. He's just a natural. Michigan State, Iowa and Notre Dame are considered the favorites. Martin is the No. 233 player per the 247Sports Composite.

quote:

Aubrey Solomon, DT, Georgia

Solomon doesn't have a vast array of pass rushing moves but all he needs is that twitchy first step and his natural strength. That worked fine for him on Tuesday. Alabama is his leader. Solomon is the No. 31 player per the 247Sports Composite.

4-star safety: Auburn 'great for me' even without McGriff (247)
quote:

What does 4-star safety target Devon Hunter of Chesapeake (Va.) Indian River like most about Auburn?

Well, one thing that stands out is "their pride for their school," Hunter told AuburnUndercover.com at the U.S. Army All-American Bowl.

The 6-feet-1, 205-pound Hunter, the No. 45 overall recruit in the 247Sports Composite, is one of Auburn's biggest targets. And not that long ago he appeared poised to land with the Tigers.

But the departure of secondary coach Wesley McGriff, who is headed to Ole Miss to be defensive coordinator, has shaken things up.

"It's huge," Hunter said. "I have a great relationship with him. ... It made a big impact."

Today, Virginia Tech probably is the team to beat. But Auburn remains in the picture.

"They're still high on my list, even without him," Hunter said. "You can't pick a school over a coach. The school is still great for me."

Auburn commit T.D. Moultry named to HS All-American Team alongside 2 Alabama commits (AL.com)
quote:

Jackson-Olin senior and Auburn linebacker commit T.D. Moultry has added another major award to his resume.

Moultry has been named to the 2016 CBS MaxPreps All-American Football Team, Moultry is the only Alabama high school player and the only Auburn commit on the first or second teams.

"He's one of, if not, the most humble kid I've been around and he's one of, if not, the hardest working kid I've been around," Jackson-Olin coach Tim Vakakes said late last year about his star linebacker. "It's been a blessing to have him in our program for four years."

Why Alabama leads for 5-star DL Aubrey Solomon and could Auburn make a move? (AL.com)
quote:

Solomon has made many trips to Auburn.

"I really like the family atmosphere," Solomon said. "They really want to develop you as a man first. I want to be the man who I see myself being and who my mom sees me becoming."

What could Auburn do to overtake Alabama?

"I really couldn't tell you that," Solomon said. "I just couldn't."

Several more visits should help Solomon solidify his decision.

"I'll take all my official visits and go back to the closest schools and take unofficials like Georgia and Auburn since Auburn's only two hours away and after that, I'll definitely make my decision," Solomon said.

Army Bowl: East Day Two Top Five (Scout)
quote:

Ja'len Parks, DE, Newberry (Fla.)
Parks was in the backfield a lot again, especially in the morning session. He has quickness off the ball and is active. When the East was doing full 11 on 11, he was one of the best players on the field.

looking at my depth chart with seniors removed, we have a severe lack of depth at defensive end.

Davidson
Cowart
James III
Coe
Holland

Although really talented, it is our least populated position and we have ZERO ends currently committed.

Cowart is a guy that needs to step up, and fast. Garner is obviously a great teacher and coach, but Cowart has to want it. Hopefully the light comes on for him.

Agreed we need some DEs in this class. FWIW tho it's thought Wooten and Moultry could play the Buck as well

Alec Jackson could be a SDE if we want. But ya that's why we are pushing hard for Ryan Johnson, Markaviest Bryant and Jarez Parks

I don't know if I'd call that a severe lack of depth, but we definitely need probably two DE's this class.

I would take Cowart out of that list unless he gets down some weight, he continues to grow and will probably end up inside this year would be my guess as a 1 or 3 tech tackle (lining up on the guard to pass rush). He trimmed down a lot last season and was still between 250 and 260, I would think he could get to 280 to 285 pretty easy and play inside. Either way, a decision will have to be made now to go forward.

Davidson can hold his own on the one side and if Coe is as advertised, he will create disruption when playing on the other side. Holland can get it done so the questions are with James and Cowart.

We really need to bring in some true pass rushers instead of guys they think could be in the future.

It's pretty thin. That's only a two deep when you remove Cowart.

Yikes.

A lot of people think Moultry will be an edge rusher on passing plays, similar to Tim Williams/Arden Key's early career

It honestly is what we should do for most if not all our talented FR. Limited situation specific roles that won't overwhelm them and gets them early success.

It's thin, and yes it gets thinner when you remove a player

However, I wouldn't say 5 players for 2 positions is what I would call severe before the freshman class comes in. If we don't bring in any into this class, then it would start getting bad, which is why I said we need probably 2 in this class. Going into the spring though, in theory we would have upperclassmen at the position until the 3rd and 4th string (obvioiusly freshman could beat them out but you get the point).

It's thin with Cowart. It's only a two deep with or without him

But yeah, we'll bring in guys and it won't wind up mattering

I'm not saying it isn't thin

I said it wasn't "severely" thin considering we'd have a 3 deep at both ends by just adding one freshman. I would think most would agree that 6 players for 2 positions would be good depth, no?

Depends on the quality. There is depth of warm bodies and then there is quality depth. We had like five quarterbacks for one position and it still sucked. If we have one frosh DE, one inexperienced DE in Coe, and one underachiever in Cowart, then the quality may be lacking making the real depth appear slim.

But I was told that because he's white he's not any better than Will Hastings and his daddy paid for his recruiting ranking
