Boom! His rating isn't all that impressive but teams like USC, Florida and Texas have been recruiting him hard. Fits that tweener mold we like where he could slide inside if needed or play outside

Kid looks the part, 6'5 270. I think the rating here is based on instant impact. Needs technique coaching but a year on the scout team and in the gym, he'll be stout. Definitely going to end up inside after s&c on that frame. 2015: 21 TFL 7.5 sacks.

Good depth pickup, but now let's go get Soloman who could be in the rotation next year behind Antwuan Jackson. Like Paw has been saying we've got a decent shot with Soloman although UGA only has 1 DT and one real DE committed.

Also, Juice LB McBride committed to Dawgs today as expected.

Agreed. He's a guy that we probably won't see for a year or 2 but will be an important piece in a few seasons. Love how multiple he is

Not a shocker. T-WILL did great even getting visits from that kid. I am hoping he ends up another Jake Holland and yes I am saying that only because he is a 4* white LB

I had no idea he is a white. Had to look him up. I've quit following recruiting besides who commits to us. Thus my improved mood on this board.

Anyone else think McBride looks like that dude from Mockingjay? (Who also played Fulton from the mighty ducks?)

Briefly watched Alec Jackson's highlights. I was impressed with the quickness. He plays way to high though. When he learns to play low and use leverage he'll be a force at his size.

Defensive lineman Alec Jackson commits to Auburn on Christmas Day (SECCountry)
quote:

“They always express to me how they need more D-linemen to back up the rest of the D-linemen. Knowing that I’m one of the guys that they’re choosing is just great,” Jackson told SEC Country.

This is an expedited commitment for Jackson.

He originally told SEC Country that it had been a lifelong dream to pick up a hat on National Signing Day. But apparently the dream of suiting up for his in-state school took precedent.

“I’ve always been an Auburn fan,” Jackson said. “That’s always been dream for me to even have a chance to play for them. That’d just be a really great experience.”

Jackson isn’t as highly rated as some of Auburn’s other defensive line targets. He’s the No. 54 defensive tackle in the country. At 6-foot-5 and 280 pounds, Jackson will add immediate depth to Auburn’s interior defensive line.

Despite Jackson’s commitment, Auburn remains in the No. 10 spot in the team rankings, though the Tigers closed the gap on No. 9 Notre Dame.

Jackson told SEC Country that he still intends to take all of his pre-planned January official visits. He will visit Auburn on Jan. 13, Florida on Jan. 20 and Ole Miss on Jan. 27. Jackson officially visited Southern Cal earlier in the recruiting cycle.

Just noticed that in his tweet he included KJ Britt. He was a guy everyone said would be a leader of whichever class he landed on

Auburn picks up Christmas Day commitment from DT Alec Jackson (AL.com)
quote:

Jackson picked Auburn over finalists Florida, Ole Miss and USC. He is ranked as a three-star prospect and the No. 54 defensive tackle in the 247Sports Composite.

During check-in for the Alabama-Mississippi All-Star Game earlier this month, Jackson told AL.com he plans to officially visit Auburn Jan. 13.

"I grew up an Auburn fan, so having a chance to play for them is very exciting," he said at the time. "They have a great coaching staff. The d-line coach (Rodney Garner) is a very good coach and the defensive coordinator (Kevin Steele) is a great coach too. They're like a family there, that's why their defense is so good. Because they stick together... They said I have the opportunity to play tackle or d-end, as long as I work hard for it."

No kidding, he basically plays standing straight up. Garner is gonna eat him alive next fall during those pad level drills

Ryan Johnson gave him a War Eagle on the commitment. It probably means nothing but what's recruiting season without overanalyzing every little thing?

Take his helmet off and make him launch under the chutes or under a shovel. Once he knocks his noggin a time or two he will learn to stay low.

Twitter reacts to Alec Jackson’s commitment to Auburn (SECCountry)
quote:

What’s next on the D-line?

As noted, that is defensive lineman No. 1. Defensive line coach Rodney Garner’s work is just getting started.

Auburn has made a name for itself in recent years for its ability to close late with defensive linemen. Last season’s steal of 5-star talent Derrick Brown is only the most recent example.

The Tigers will once again attempt to make some end-of-cycle headway on a few top defensive line prospects. Here are the key names to keep an eye on:

4-star recruit Ryan Johnson: Here’s another potential in-state addition. Johnson is a hybrid lineman who could play on the defensive line’s interior or exterior. He plans to narrow his top 6 to a top 3 in the near future. Auburn, Alabama and Stanford are the favorites to land in that top 3. Notre Dame, Texas and USC are still in the mix. Auburn will receive an official visit on Jan. 27. He’ll visit Stanford on Dec. 13 and Alabama on Jan. 20.
4-star talent Markaviest Bryant: The cousin of Montravius Adams, Auburn has made up a lot of ground for Bryant. The Tigers were way behind at the beginning of the season as Bryant wanted to measure Auburn’s progress under a third defensive coordinator in three years. Bryant liked what he saw, it seems, as the Tigers have crept into his top 4. Bryant will take official visits in January and likely make a National Signing Day decision.
4-star Aubrey Solomon: The big 2017 mystery. Solomon, in many ways, mirrors the recruitment of Derrick Brown. Brown didn’t know what he wanted to do. He was a giant enigma. Few people knew where Brown would go when he made his televised announcement on National Signing Day. Solomon has shown major interest in Michigan, Georgia, Florida, Alabama and Auburn. All five have suggested they feel a moderate level of confidence in their chances of scoring him. Auburn could be the dark horse after not being in the equation for much of the recruitment.

Also I missed the Twitter war last night about "savages". Love Wooten's comment "when the last time them uga boys won a ship ?"

5-star Calvin Ashley highlights Auburn recruits at Under Armour All-America Game (AL.com)
quote:

TEAM ARMOUR

Ryan Johnson, DE, Mobile - The four-star end from St. Paul's is a top Auburn target and he will officially visit the Tigers in January.

Markaviest Bryant, DE, Cordele, Ga. - The four-star pass rusher has Auburn in his top four and the Tigers are recruiting him at the BUCK position.

Chandler Wooten, LB, Kennesaw, Ga. - The longtime Auburn commit will play in this game before enrolling in January.

Christopher Henderson, DB, Miami - The four-star cornerback took an official visit to Auburn during the season.

TEAM HIGHLIGHT

Calvin Ashley, OL, Washington, D.C. - The five-star has been committed to Auburn for nearly two years and should stick with the Tigers despite a late push from Maryland.

Austin Troxell, OL, Madison, Ala. - The four-star Auburn offensive tackle commit won't play in the game due to a knee injury, but will be at the game after earning an invite.

DeAngelo Gibbs, DB, Loganville, Ga. - Alabama and Georgia may be the favorites, but Gibbs did make an official visit to Auburn in December leading into his commitment, which will take place at this game.

Anders Carlson, K, Colorado Springs, Ga. - Daniel Carlson's younger brother will be booming kicks in this game and for Auburn for the next several years.
