I'd rather not waste a football scholly just to get a guy on the baseball team.
Think of Johnston as a Robert Leff type recruit, a long-term investment. People like TTsTowel will talk shite about the kid for not contributing as a freshman and because he probably won't ever be some big pro prospect. But one day as an upperclassmen he might just end a damn good player for us. Those types of players also come in handy in times of unexpected attrition because they tend to stick around where a player who is more athletic and was higher rated might get frustrated and move on quicker.

Yeah, I talked shite about Robert Leff's pass protection. I acknowledged how well he did in run blocking LAST YEAR per PFF standards (follow them closely).

Everybody here knows how you felt about Leff from the time he signed til he got on the field. No need for links. Not sorry.

You may be confusing him with Captain Douche.

1. Say something stupid
2. Wait 3 or 4 years
3. Pretend like you never said it
4. When someone calls you on it, ask for a link knowing they won't go back 3 or 4 years to look for it
5. Profit

I've never felt strongly about Robert Leff, but like I said, I acknowledged how good he was as a run blocker and still bash him on pass protection. And I've never shite talked a player that didn't play as a freshman. I would actually rather some play as freshmen, especially the receivers we have now over shitty players like Marcus Davis.

He was solid in pass protection too, allowing just three sacks, no hits and seven hurries.

Congrats. He improved. I have still bashed him on pass protection.

Leatherwood visit went well. Auburn is preaching development and having a couple lineman honored this weekend helped. Unnamed source says "We'll see"
He's expected to have a final decision early next week

Is he still visiting Florida next? Or did that visit already happen?

I can't remember if it was TT or Brannigan that had a hard-on for Leff. I have a feeling it was Brannigan as he is generally more critical of our line players.

Flying there this afternoon

I was never favorable of Robert Leff, but I have bashed him...just not near as bad as Captain Brannigan.

JLee just posted a WarRoom full of sunshine. The most notable things:
1) Its not a matter of who for Stidham, but when. Pretty much 100% AU now because it doesn't look like KB will land a OC position soon.
2) We are now the leader for Narcisse. People in Baton Rouge and Auburn both seem to think this is the case.
EDIT: There is also a 5* recruit visiting this weekend that no one knows about. Will give a name later today once he actually arrives. Interested to see who it might be.

God I love JLee
If we landed Narcisse and Stidham that would be insane. Could troll both LSU and Aggies all summer

Love the fact we didn't just do the "family" routine with him. He's a very mature kid looking for a place that allows him to get to NFL in 3 years. Sounds like we took that seriously and gave it our best pitch. I still expect him to land at Bama but love the way Hand handled that visit

Also apparently Mike Horton was the player host for Leatherwood. Always interesting to see who gets paired with whom on these visits

In Plains Sight: CJ Avery biggest factor and why Auburn makes sense (SECCountry)
quote:
That doesn’t even mention the biggest Auburn draw yet — Wesley McGriff.
The Auburn secondary coach spent the three seasons before he joined the Tigers’ staff as the defensive backs coach for the New Orleans Saints. That’s not lost on Avery.
“That plays a big role in it, too. He knows what it takes to get to the NFL,” Avery said. “I just pick his brain whenever I’m around him, to see what he thinks. That’s one thing I love about him.”
Avery noted he isn’t the only person in the 2017 class to take notice. It helped land Malcolm Askew and Jordyn Peters — a pair of players who will oppose Avery in the annual rivalry game on Saturday. Carlito Gonzalez is another Auburn commit drawn in by McGriff’s NFL past.
Devon Hunter, one of the nation’s top safeties, pushed his commitment date from Christmas Eve to January. That, too, will give McGriff extra time to court the 4-star prospect from Virginia.
I haven’t even listed the guys he’s coached who are in the NFL: Casey Hayward, Brandon Harris, Kenny Phillips, Sam Shields and Yeremiah Bell.
“I think it speaks for coach McGriff and the defensive backs coach he is,” Avery said. “People just want to play for him. That just speaks for itself.”
