SEC Recruiting Notebook (Scout)
quote:

Prospect of the Week

Shaun Shivers

Another Auburn commit had a big week on the gridiron. Recently Scout named 2017 athlete Devan Barrett the Prospect of the Week, but this time, it is junior Shaun Shivers. The 2018 electric playmaker out of Hollywood (Fla.) Chaminade-Madonna rushed for 260 yards and five touchdowns Friday night. The 5-foot-7, 165 pound playmaker has a great burst, he is shifty and he can make big plays from the running back or slot position. The Tigers have to be excited about his commitment. He had double-digit offers when he committed to Auburn just over a month ago.

In Plains Sight: 'Tis the season to be 'crootin (SECCountry)

Really good article breaking down things for this week and some update. I am gonna quote some pieces I thought were most interesting/important

quote:

Here is a quick primer on what is allowed during the contact period. Read the full guidelines for yourself here.

- Coaches can visit prospects off campus, which began Sunday (read below).
- Programs are allotted 6 off-campus visits with each student-athlete between now and National Signing Day.
- Those visits can take place only once a week.
- The dead period hits on Dec. 12 and lasts until Jan. 11.
- Another contact period picks up from Jan. 11 to Jan. 28.

quote:

Buggs has been in my class projections since the beginning of the season, and, while there is plenty of reason to believe LSU’s proximity and retention of Coach O could be the last-ditch pull, Auburn still feels confident in landing the JUCO option who is versatile enough to play end or tackle.

He always has vouched for the recruiting strategies of Steele and Garner, with whom he has built a steady relationship.

“They just basically, they kind of leave the recruiting part out of it. They want me to enjoy myself. They just want to see me do good. That’s the thing I like about it,” Buggs told SEC Country earlier in the season. “Every time I come to Auburn, it’s not all about recruiting. It’s just about getting along with the coaches and relationships with the players. That’s a good thing.”

quote:

Also, Auburn commit Tadarian Moultry received a visit from Travis Williams. This is what I refer to as a “leadership visit.” Moultry isn’t going anywhere. He never planned on leaving the state, and it was an Auburn-Alabama battle the whole way. Ultimately, the No. 1 inside linebacker in the state felt more comfortable on the Plains.

He spent last weekend at the Iron Bowl, but that was in the stands as a fan, not on the field as a recruit. Moultry was decked out in Auburn gear.

quote:

There are four visits I’ve already confirmed for later in the week. More information on this contacts will be provided when possible.

Monday: Rodney Garner will travel to Mobile, Ala., for an in-home visit with 4-star DL target Ryan Johnson
Wednesday: Kevin Steele and Wesley McGriff plan to visit 4-star safety target Devon Hunter in Chesapeake, Va.
Wednesday: Tim Horton will go see 4-star OL commit Austin Troxell in Madison, Ala.

Those two days will be big, but neither may be bigger than Tuesday. That’s when Jarrett Stidham will return to campus. The former 5-star and Baylor transfer might be the hottest commodity remaining in the college football world.

Shaun Shivers

If Shivers can get up to 190lb, I don't see much issue with his size assuming he has top end balance.

His extremely low center of gravity will make him extremely difficult to tackle

What's the deal with the Hunter kid? We like him? Do I need to engage bagman services?

Devon Hunter? Yes we like him, he's our top S target. Right now Virginia Tech is the clear team to beat. AU/BAMA/UF/UNC are all battling behind them. Will be a tough pull from the Hokies

KN has VIP article up on Stidham pre visit. Here summary

- Will be a short visit. Arriving Tuesday morning, leaving in the evening. Will only be an unofficial visit and he probably won't take an official visit. Why? Because he feels comfortable with AU now it's about finding out specifically what everyone's plans are
- He is going to sit down with Lashlee & Gus to discuss short and long term plans for him if he were to come to AU
- His major concern is whether or not Lashlee will be here next year. He is close with RL and losing him would be a major blow to landing Stidham (unless we got a Briles)
- Apparently no one disputes that AU has recruited Stidham the hardest. Aggies have been playing a weird game trying to balance Mond's expectations and Stidham's. Hamm says Sumlin & Stidham haven't even met yet
- Later this week Lashlee & maybe Gus will make an in home visit. Gus may or may not go depending on how well this visit goes Tuesday.
- Florida is trying to get in the picture but have a ton of work to do. Things could get interesting if a school took a chance on Kendal or Art Briles
- KN later said he would put it 51-49 in favor of Aggie

This is probably last time he will be on campus before decision which should come by mid December. It's interesting to me that despite never meeting Sumlin the Aggies are still the slight favorite. It's hard to get Texas boys out of Texas.

If we don't get Stidham (I will probably join the melt ) things will get crazy. KN says not really sure what the pecking order would be but Kellen Mond & Lowell Narcisse would be our first calls. Bubba Thompson would be evaluated and we would hit the JUCO circuit hard.

Bottom line is we are going all out right now for Stidham which I agree with. He immediately makes us SEC title contenders next season if AU can land him. If not then better hope Woody Barrett is ready by week 6 or 7 when White inevitably goes down with another injury

KN with more updates

- Herb Hand & Scott Fountain visiting 5* OT Calvin Ashley Wednesday. KN expects us to visit him the maximum 6 times over contact period. Maryland is the main threat with UF also still recruiting him
- Apparently we have not had much communication with 4* DE Michael Clemons. We might visit him this week. Says he has always had interest in Auburn just waiting on the call. That tells me we have a few guys ahead of him they want to make sure of first before offering & recruiting Clemons. My guess is Buggs
- Tigers still recruiting 4* JUCO TE Jeremy Patton who committed to Arkansas over the summer. His Arizona Western College team is playing in JUCO national championship game against Garden City Community College. Apparently Garden City have some talented DBs as well we might be monitoring
- The only known in home visits today are 4* DE Ryan Johnson, 4* ATH Tray Bishop & 4* RB Devan Barrett
- Garner visiting 4* DE LaBryan Ray Tuesday. As of now he does not plan to take official visit to AU

Wish we would grab him.

Not sure why we would be interested in adding a bench player given our TE usage

Harris is only TE on scholarship on roster and will be junior next season. With that agreed weird to add a JUCO guy for spot we don't use a ton outside of blocking. I imagine Tre McKitty is still the #1 target

4* WR Tarik Black announcing in next 2-3 weeks

He originally planned to announce at Under Armor All-American Game. No idea if this is good or bad for AU. He has already officially visited AU, AL & MICH which are his top 3

KN says there is a new name to track on the DB board NR JUCO CB Mike Hughes.

He plays at Garden City C.C. (Nick Marshall's old JUCO) and will face Arizona Western College Saturday for JUCO national championship. AU plans to check the game out as we are still recruiting 4* TE Jeremy Patton as well

Unsure if this is a backup plan or if maybe they are expecting to lose someone to NFL or to transfer. Could just be they really like the guy

Stidham is officially in town.

Fwiw, I've heard UF was the biggest threat Auburn has for him. Don't exactly know how true that is.
