meh, I prefer 2 stars. The lower the better right?

My point was 2* or high 4* when Garner gets them they become mediocre. That or we have not evaluated talent well the past 3 classes. I started to wonder this myself when we took Maurice Swain smh...

Besides Lawson when healthy, and Adams. Blackson and Gabe played just fine too.

I think Boom, T Tob, and Thompson can recruit and coach up guys to get our defense back it will just take some time. Now garner I am starting to think he is a weak link that needs to be replaced. Everyone is saying go after Rocker hard but I only remember one really good year with him. It seems like we always want the guy who has a connection to auburn and I think it is time to go outside that box. I would live to steal mizzou Dline coach from them

I would like to give Muschamp FULL control of the defense and let him hire whoever the heck he wants.

They always seemed to disappear. They never seemed to get better from one year to the next.

Gabe played well in spurts. Blackson generally played pretty bad. Very inconsistent. It would be 1 really good play for 8 bad ones.

True. Probably didn't maximize what they could have been.

Blackson didn't even get to play that much and if I recall correctly was drafted ahead of Gabe off raw talent alone. His size and athletisicm was scary

Blackson I think was about as good as his recruiting ranking. Solid but not spectacular. Gabe was up and down but seem poised for a breakout senior year but then we played him out of position and it didn't work at all.

sweet. Another 3* DT that won't sniff the field, aka Maurice Swain, Devoroe Lawrence, etc. etc.

To be honest I think this kid is really good very athletic for someone his size. And lets not forget Fairley went Juco.

And lets not forget the crash course diet that Gabe went on before his senior year. I understand that he did it because there is "life after football", but there are also holes to be filled and he did a piss poor job at it. And whatever so called quickness he was hoping to obtain by losing the weight, it never showed up to any signifigant effect on the field. We pretty much had a tweener DT/DE on the field. Not mammoth enough for run defense like a Vince WIlfork type player. And certainly not quick enough to be effective at rushing the passer.

They should have had Gabe crash diet as FR then gain the weight back in muscle. The plan wasn't bad, the timing was.
Screw Johnson for putting that plan in motion when it clearly was too late

Some are looking at this as if it's the same situation. Muschamp has a lot riding on getting that DL in order. He's not going to allow offers to shoddy prospects IMO. Just off the upswing at DB alone, I'm keeping the faith he'll get everything working in unison. JUCO or not, I'm not going to view this recruiting class through the same scope.

I just assumed he lost that weight as part of his/the coaches plan to move him outside.

Gabe:
quote:
“Honestly, the decision to lose weight was just mine personally, me, the nutritionist and the strength staff,” Wright said last week at SEC Media Days in Hoover. “I’ve been wanting to drop down body weight since I’ve been here, and body fat, which has been done.”
And Garner's take.
quote:
“I don’t want him any lighter,” Garner said in June. “He’s got to give us some quality reps inside.”

Watched some of the film on the JUCO DT from VA that we offered. He plays violent. Hard to guage skill/talent level given his competition but at least he doesn't seem like a tentative marshmallow
