Because QB is the toughest position to learn. Can't have enough, IMO.

Just making sure we are still okay with the ones that are set to come in. I don't particularly think we need a DT QB; however, if a pocket passer is our QB, he has to complete passes to our team, not the other, just like any other QB. I think everybody wants a DT quarterback right now only because JJ is sucking a fat dick. That, and the many memories of Clint Moseley, our human tackling dummy, being sacked to ruin yet another drive.

That and the whole DT QBs taking AU to NC games. But I agree, under these circumstances (JJ throwing to the other team), we can't really guage how better/worse the offense is with a pocket passer.

Looking at a JUCO guy to provide veteran depth since Queen will miss a whole year due to TJ surgery. Won't hurt to bring in a guy with upside. If JJ isn't the guy then all you've really got is White and Smith plus a freshman

My thoughts as well. If you aren't "the guy" you're destined for 4 years of blocking down field with the occasional catch that no one remembers. If I were Jason Smith I would be moving back to qb. And if I were Darius Slayton I'd move to cb.

That goes for his use of RBs as well. He gets stuck on one guy, and ends up under-utilizing the backups. If you're a WR or RB, and you're not his first option, you are in trouble.

There are a lot of other offenses that feature a variety of players much more effectively than Malzahn does.

Adding to a juco DT QB would be smart considering Queen. The FR coming in will need some time.

On Gus' offense, the one thing I would like to see is some versatile TE use over the middle as a safety valve, last read like they use in the NFL. Even some delayed release TE 7yd turn around and shuffle routes. Spread defense's LBs out even more.

We had a fairly versatile TE in Uzomah and we rarely used him.

Landon Rice is a beast we'll see if Guz involves him

I wish we would use a big TE to find open space as a check down option.

I wish we would use a big TE to torch teams down the seam.

I think we can all agree someone needs to call in to the Gus Malzahn show or whatever and point blank ask him wtf don't we use TE's as a safety valve checkdown option that could pickup 5-7 yards on a delayed route or rip a seam open when those safeties are split and a LB trailing.

Even the NFL team that picked up Uzomah (can't remember which, Bengals?) said he was under-utilized by AU. Would certainly help provide a big target for our inexperienced QB.

Well our freshman qb this year just had surgery on his throwing arm so I'm sure that has a ton to do with it

Hell Gus knows this he told the NFL teams looking at him that he was way under used while at Auburn. I don't get it he was big had decent speed and caught the ball very well. I have been saying for awhile that Gus needs to go study a Nfl like passing attack in the off season

Tommy John Surgery for Queen was never going to have much of an effect on our depth chart anyway. He is going to have atleast two years of rest before he ever starts, IF he ever starts and TJ is becoming a very successful surgery. We knew his arm was hurting before he signed so if anything, we should've taken a second QB last year.
