I seriously doubt my mindset as a fan has any effect on the standard Coates and the coaches set for him and the rest if the WR core ... what I'm talking about are our expectations as fans, which are most of the time way out if line with reality.
See. There's a difference between you and I and that's ok. I used to coach therefore I always watch any game and analyze players in a coaching mindset and not as a fan.

And to say that he still consistently has drops is asinine.

The argument is whether he drops balls consistently or not because he absolutely does (that's not even open for discussion). The argument is whether that's normal or not on the college level which I very well could be wrong in this department.

He's definitely improved from what he was. Not arguing that either.

It's absolutely normal for college wideouts to drop passes on a relatively consistent basis.... there are always exceptions -- Darvin Adams, Courtney Taylor, and Rodriquez Smith come to mind as recent auburn guys who had great hands and rarely dropped.

But guess what, I bet everyone on this board remembers Darvin dropping a couple in the BCSNCG. as fans, the negative seems to stick out to us.

Then you have Ricardo who can't catch a pass more than 15 yards down field unless it bounces off a defender first

Enough that I noticed the problem. I don't have a certain stat for you.

Your stance is skewed by bias. Because you already have a predisposition of him as a guy who drops passes, his actual drop-problem seems more exaggerated than it actually is.

My predisposition came from his play last year not anything before that. He's played one game since. One game isn't changing my opinion especially when he still had a drop in the game.

His hands might be better now but there's no way to know yet

I bet Sammie and Ricardo have about the same drop percentage but we "excuse" Sammie more often then Ricardo for some reason.

That would be why he said "I bet".

I did a quick search for a Dropped pass stat but didn't see anything initially. I would like to see those numbers if anybody finds them.

Somebody has put all our offensive plays on youtube. Just watch and chart them. My computer is snail slow so I'll do it tomorrow. So far though through 2 games last year Ric has 2 drops and Sammy 0.

Na. It's a Thursday night and I have nothing better to do since I don't care about the games on tv tonight.

Because Sammie makes a ton more plays in the passing game. Pretty simple really.

KN is posting live from Jason Smiths game tonight. Early in the 3rd Smith was 11-13 154 yards 3 tds. Don't know his rushing stats.

KN very impressed with his passing says he spins it well making nice quick decisions and "throwing strikes"

KN says Maurice Swain definitely looks like an SEC DT and he's been in the backfield a lot.

Not much action for Tony Bridges they aren't throwing at him a lot, but KN said he's plays aggressive and has some nice tackles

Payne did an interview with KN. Said Bama, AU and MSU on top. Bama and MSU recruiting him the hardest. our coaches told him they want him bad. Feels the most at home when he goes to Bama. His mom apparently is really close to the Auburn staff even though she's a Bama fan. Will be the most influential person in his recruitment

Greg Peshek tracks them for the NFL Draft but you won't see any of that until after the season ends, permitting that Coates declares.

This was his breakdown of the top WRs from last year's draft to get a sense:

STFU about receivers. This is the recruiting thread. If you want to discuss our current players, don't put it in the recruiting thread.

Sammy out :dropsmic:
