Auburn played 36 games, Purchase would have to had played in 12 games or less to be eligible for a medical redshirt. Which he did.
correct. I thought the 3 game rule was a hard max limit but it's not. They take the greater of 3 contests or 30% of contests. Jack played in 7 of 35 games which is 20%. However, there is another factor. The injury has to knock you out for the rest of the season. You can't just heel up and be held out. If the previously stated hammy injury is true then AU will have to show NCAA documentation that he could not play through this past Saturday. I bring that up because Jack has not played in 3 months. I have rarely seen a hammy injury knock someone out for that long.

If CBP was not going to keep Purchase, he would not have honored his scholly.
That was initially true but the word now is he is a total liability defensively and will not get PT in front of guys like Thompson, Lang, & Granger going forward. No sense in keeping a schollied guy or asking him to stay if all you see in him is scrub minutes.

Pearl was on Tiger Talk last night. This is a short summary from S Hooks. E if you can find a link to the podcast it would be greatly appreciated.

quote:

He said that next year he will be far tougher with the players relating to how they play on the court. Said this years team was far too beat up verbally in the past to handle it. He also said next year he will have a vastly improved roster at 4 of the five spots.

Which 4 spots

PG- Improvement
SG- Downgrade from KT
SF- Improvement
PF- Improvement
C- We don't have a C in the class

Unless he plans on starting a lineup with Spencer at C and say Purifoy at PF

Well, I would say C will be vastly improved considering Reed should know the offense and have a full year of practice, not coming in mid-season.

My guess is that Bowers gets moved to his natural position of PF and we start a real center.

Potential Starting Lineup

PG - Canty
SG - Dunans or TSD
SF - Purifoy
PF - Bowers
C - Reed

That's as good a starting 5 in the league with

New Williams
Bryce Brown
TJ Lang
Horace Spencer
Granger/Purchase/Thompson

Thats as good a 13 this side of UK and possibly LSU

Yea, they will be young, but that is legit depth where the second rotation should still be able to be competitive.

Those are archaic, too much in the box, positional thinking. Pearl's ideal is

1. CG-Combo guard
2. W-Wing
3. W-wing
4. AF-Athletic Forward
5. ATF-Athletic Taller Forward -Think 6'10 Brandon Crump here. Also Austin Wiley will fit in nicely down the line as he fills out if we get him.

As for the positional improvments

1-Canty should be > than anyone we used
2-KT > than anything in 2015/2016 but Dunnans and co should contribute nicely.
3-TJ came on late and should continue to improve. also Purifoy comes in. 2015/16 TJ or Purifoy > 2014/15 TJ or Antoine who dealt w/ a lot this year
4-2015/2016 Cim > 2014/2015 Cim especially if the reports of Canty being able to coral Cim are true.
5-Spencer > production gotten by Reed, Granger & Co

There ya have it GC. Improvement at 4 of 5 spots.

I meant just that I don't see us improving over KT and Bowers already played the 4/5 a good bit. Essentially, I don't think counting Bowers is fair since he has already played

If Bowers, Reed and Canty improve/come as advertised _ one of Spencer/Purifoy/Dunans play at a high level, that is dangerous

SF - Purifoy
Even though DP is more talented overall don't rule out TJ starting at least for some of next year. He is a real good defender and could improve in other areas.

C - Reed
Barring dramatic improvement I don't see Reed starting over HS.

The notable 1 I can remember is JGT. He was born and raised in Kentucky so he should know something about basketball.

Who's the best unsigned recruit that we may still be in it for? Besides the obvious Horace Spencer

Y'all may have known this. I didn't. We play in the Diamond Head Classic Tourney in Hawaii this Christmas break. The Field includes BYU, Harvard, Hawaii, New Mexico, Northern Iowa, Oklahoma and Washington State. Four of the teams advanced to the NCAA Tournament last season. 4 Teams are in it now: Byu, OU, UNI, & Harvard. Pluss Hawaii won 22 games this season.

Other noncon opponents Pearl reaffirmed

@ Coastal Carolina
@ Xavier
-Working on a series w/ UAB w/ next year @ home
-Told CBS & ESPN we will go on the road to play a top 20 team if the tv companies can find a team that will play us (a number of teams have said no unless tv guaranteed: call Gonzaga damn it!)

The last player we add may not be rated. The focus appears to be on a juco, European, or Grad transfer big man.

Looking forward to next season, how much of a role do you think experience will play?

In other words, do you think we'll be beating our heads against the TV when these freshman make dumb mistakes or will they be less mistake-prone than we've been used to in the past.

I'm trying to be optimistic about our young talent upgrade.
