2014 Auburn Football Recruiting Thread quote: Fred is from Montgomery (Lee HS iirc). This dude is from georgia. Not sure how close they really are. Seriously? "my uncle Fred Beasley".... As for Steven Davis, I don't fault him at all for letting Lattimore do what he wanted to in the end. I'm sure Davis wanted him to go to Auburn, but if you're a kids mentor, you let them make that decision. If not, you're a pretty crappy mentor.

But I'm sick of all of the AUBURN mentors being good people, while other schools mentors routinely force kids to go to their school. Personally, I want AU mentors who force the top flight kids to also attend AU.

yeah, seriously... my uncle from georgia went to Ga Tech... that didn't influence my college decision.

Where coaches/extended relatives/etc went to school is usually pretty low on the list of things that end up being important... it might get your foot in the door, but sometimes it can be a negative (Lawson's dad went to GT, remember?). Heck, sometimes brothers go their separate ways (Alexander twins?)

So you want our people to be underhanded, unethical, jerk offs like those other schools....That's nice to know.

That is not the Auburn way, nor should it be the way of the other schools either. But just because somebody else does something unethical does not mean we should do it too.

I think what he is saying is that he wants family members of AU targets with AU connectinos to start being more actively involved.

If I was interested in AU and my uncle who I look up to who played int he league and probably is some type of role model tells me how amazing Auburn is and how great of an experience it is to be an Auburn Tiger, that would become taken under heavier consideration.

If my uncle had told me that it was good but doesn't really matter / didn't give a shite, it reflets poorly on Auburn. The fact that his uncle doesn't care enough to push for his school hurts AU because AU wasn't good enough for him to do that

Also, these kids need people to help them sort through the bullshite. Our guys aren't doing that like they do at other schools.

Point being, we need Auburn guys that play a more active role as a mentor with positive outlook towards Auburn.

Not to turn this into a different thread, but there are some people in our current AD that have turned away and cut ties with former AU athletes and prominent AU grads. When that happens, its not good PR. I hope this changes in the future. It would help our recruiting if we could bring some of those former Tigers back into the fold.

I've talked to some high quality guys that feel that way. They are hard working 9-5 guys now too who were former NFL / ALL SEC

Would love to get him but DCraig will have to work miracles. He isn't from Alabama and seems like other schools have been high on his list from the beginning

More Opelika stuff that y'all get to put up with from me:

JHokanson: Opelika (Ala.) TE Jakell Mitchell just left #Auburn practice. Liked the up-tempo pace of the offense. Full update coming shortly.

Does anyone remember early last recruiting cycle when we thought we'd land a bigger fish at quarterback and probably not even accept Jeremy Johnson's commitment? I said it'd be a huge mistake back then if we did pass, and damn I'm glad we have him signed. I think he can be the total package in Gus Malzahn's offense.

I am pretty sure most people on this board agreed with you on that one. I mean, people would have wanted other QBs too but Jeremy Johnson was pretty high on everyone's list, especially mine.

He would have gone to LSU and been the second coming of Jemarcus Russell sans Cheeseburgers
