The kid still has 2-3 years to grow
Damn. I easily grew 2 inches for. Sophomore to senior year of high school. Step back from the ledge a bit bud.

I'm shocked about the 3 safeties with us taking 3 last year. I thought we would have taken 2 this year to shore up the position.
Also shocked about the 2 tight ends with 3 that will be back in 2014. I would think that taking 1 this year would be more than adequate with how we use them.
And lastly, I would think we would take 2 running backs and maybe give an extra spot to another running back even though we took 3 last year.

I assume he means that the perosn who is truly recruited for the star position is one of those 3. Then you are simply recruiting one recruit per S spot. Considering a safety from last year was a JUCO, we still need depth. Especially consideing the attrition in recent years at that position. We are thin if you don't include former walkons
TEs often can play both HBack as well as TE so remember that when thinking about numbers. I'd imagine that is where the numbers come from
RBs are one of the easier positions to come in and be a contributor so I don't think depth is a huge issue. Especially since we will have two freshman in Ford/Barber

I think you missed my point too...that particular kid is not the focus of my statement...if you look at the TYPE of receivers they seem to be bringing in for visits (and yes I know that is not necessarily an offer), they seem to be of the slot variety. Our current WRs have not proven anything (yea i know our QB situation hasnt helped), our two WR prospects this previous class (Robinson and Smith) didn't make it in, and if we are lucky enough to land our top target this class, Dhaquille Williams, we will basically only have him for a year. Trey Quinn looks like an LSU lock, and Cam Sims looks like a Bama/Ole Miss race. Im nowhere near the ledge bro, but it doesnt take a genius to see our WR recruitment this class has been pretty meh...

Why? Chizik did not recruit safties. We signed like what 5 real safties in 4 years of Chizik recruiting. It is sad how thin we still are at safety.

False. Chizik recruited safeties. He just put them all at LB so that we didn't have S depth and had undersized LBs

Do you not remember Tony Stevens or Dominic Walker both of who are 6'2+ and non slot receivers?
Jason Smith was probably going to be a slot receiver but even if he wasn't, doubtful he sees meaningful playing time this year and if he does end up coming back (which is the plan), it is like he took a redshirt year without burning eligibility and minus a semester of instruction

I intended to put "top 2" prospects...but yes I remember them...they both could turn out to be stars, but when you place their POTENTIAL up against WRs at most other SEC schools (which is basically all we can do on message boards)...you still get meh...

Tony Stevens is a pure WR who was a composite top 150 player and Rivals had him as a top100. The only reason he wasn't highly recruited and we pulled him from A&M was because people believed he was a grade concern. Mentioned many times by A&M people
Dominic Walker was a pretty highly recruited WR who was considered to have a high talent ceiling as a WR but simply lacked consistency.
Both of them are legit SEC WRs. No they are not 5 star holy shite but they are going to be solid if not better. Tony Stevens is ranked similarly to JaQuay Williams who everyone (me in cluded) on this board jizzes over

I was coming here to type this up pretty much verbatim. A&M backed off because they had a bunch of receivers committed and Stevens was just too close to call at the time. I bet if you flash back 6 months and told A&M fans and coaches that he was a sure bet to get in, they would have done everything in their power to keep him.
Walker is a really good prospect when we got him away from Nebraska. He was a top 100 receiver and while that is elite, when you think that there are probably 500 receivers coming out each year that is pretty good.
I really like Robinson and wasn't happy when he didn't get in but Smith probably needed a year to redshirt so him going to prep school and coming in the spring might work out better. The coaches will have a good idea of our quarterback situation by that time so they will know immediately where to put Smith when/if he arrives.

I actually forgot about those two.

Yet, we really don't have a lot of slot guys. Rees and Bray are really it. Everyone from last class is not a slot (tht made it in).
So, it would make sense that we would look at some slot guys.

depends on what they do with Marcus Davis. I have heard that he might end up at corner or in the slot but haven't heard anything since.

Yea, I did forget about Davis.

RiCardo Louis is thought to have potential in the slot, Marcus Davis as you mentioned, Smith when he comes in and I wouldn't be surprised if we use Tre Mason or Rudy Ford in the slot in some packages to mix things up.
We do need to start getting guys for long term depth though

Damn that would be a big powerful player at that spot. He can give and take a lick.

1 Senior
5 Juniors
0 Sophs
2 Freshman
If you include Ryan smith and TJ Dsvis then the Breakdown is 2, 6, 0, 2. The Star is counted as a Safety. So you want to take 3 safeties in this class so you are not having to sign 5 or 6 safeties in 2015. It's hard to get that many quality safeties to sign in 1 class.
We already have 2 TE/HB commits in Mitchell and Laye.
With 25 Juniors scheduled to graduate after the 2014 season I do not think the coaches will sign many if any extra in lue of being able to sign as many as 30 for the 2015 class if needed.
Also on Receiver guys remember Gus likes to have a physical Slot to block down on the LBs on Buck Sweeps and a faster, quicker slot for things like speed sweeps.

He has the speed and agility to play there and I remember reading (forget where) that he may end up being a slot guy in our offense as he develops. Who knows where he ends up but I don't see why he couldn't play slot
I have always seen him playing the slot like a less powerfull but speedier Aaron Hernandez for the Patriots. Just take out the murder stuff.

Per BOL Jordan Sims dropped 20 pounds and had a great camp today at Bama including showing well against 2015 5* DT Daron Payne. Sims may be a take for Bama but I am not sure yet. They want 1 more OG and are in good shape with guys like Damien Mama, and Braden Smith.
