We don't beat UGA or Bama without a dual-threat QB. Probably not A&M either.

What was the score in those games when we had a good passer? How do you know we don't put up more points?

Gus probably laughs at that notion that he NEEDS a dual threat guy.

Exactly...I'm laughing

2007 Paul Smith 5065 yds passing 47 td passes
2008 David Johnson 4059 yds passing 46 td passes

Gus was the OC....

Not to mention, Tulsa avg 624 ypg in 2008, 394 rush ypg...without a dual-threat QB

Food for thought.

we know for a fact that a running QB makes Gus's offense elite

All you've ever seen (at least at Auburn) is great success with great dual-threat QBs and average success with average-to-poor passing QBs supported by average receivers.

I'm betting you'd be surprised how good Gus's offense would be with an elite passing QB with elite receivers.

Can you not have a rational conversation without just bashing me for my opinion? Tulsa's one thing. The best we've done under Malzahn here without a QB named Newton or Marshall is 8-5.

I'm not saying Malzahn can't have prolific offenses with strictly pocket passers because like I said earlier - and I love how you all conveniently failed to mention it - Chris Todd is the best pocket passer Gus had to work with during his time as a coordinator here. Not really fair to judge his ability with true pocket passers based on that.

All I'm saying is that I think dual-threat QBs are the key to making Gus' offenses unstoppable. I don't know if they can be as prolific in this league without one. Guess we'll find out if Gus stays here long enough.

in order for his offense to be dominant, he needs that QB running threat.

Nah, Gus just needs the same starting QB for more than 1 season and we will see some serious yards through the air on O.

So you're saying Chris Todd's 2009 season helps your argument that Malzahn won't win big with a pocket passer?

Enlighten me because Todd had a bum shoulder and limited talent and set records.

How does this help your argument at all?

If anything, it helps our argument. And by "you all conveniently failed to mention" I hope you meant "y'all brought it up multiple times" because that's what we did.

When is the Leonard Fortunate (SP?) announcement? I feel there is a quality melt to be viewed

Chris Todd set all kinds of school records, and Barrett Trotter got hurt in the Clemson game...

And you didn't mention the defense, did you?

Reading comprehension, man.

We don't know how good Gus' offense could be with a good pocket passer because Chris Todd is the best Gus has had to work with here, which is a terrible measuring stick. That was my point.

Yeah, Gus wouldn't have recruited SW if he didn't know his offense could be just as effective with a pocket passer. Not sure why this is even being discussed

He's one of, if not the best X's and O's coaches in the country. I don't see why anyone would doubt that he can strive with a pocket passer

i doubted gus as much as anyone when we hired him, but how anyone could doubt his offense, or at least his understanding of what will work in the SEC now is mind boggling

he took a team that was one of the worst offense in the country last year and is taking them to the fricking national championship.

look at who our qb is. and this is in no way a knock on nick, i love the dude. but he took a CB and made him one of the best qb's in the SEC. think about if he was playing qb at any other school. do you think he would be as good? frick no

i don't know, it's just very bizarre there are auburn fans out there questioning gus' offensive plan for the future. do people still think he has no idea what he is doing?
