Auburn basketball is just incapable of being fundamentally sound.
Thought the same thing when I was watching them play. Our offense consisted of dribbling around and finally throwing up a shot. Our men down low doesn't understand that you don't have to shoot when your tripled teamed and you can pass it back out for an open shot. Frustrating to watch, I could only imagine how frustrating it is to coach. The weird thing about it is, if we have some players that aren't injured on the floor we either win or keep it really close.

This is Auburn basketball.

Our offense looked really good at the very beginning. It looked exactly how it's supposed to look. Then we went back to just moving the ball around to get a good look at a 3.

Bowers could be so good in this offense if he could finish. He has a quick first step and could take some of the bigger guys off the dribble, but the guy is so bad around the rim. We don't really have anyone to break down the defense with Dunans out. We need him back.

Bowers can't make layups.
Bowers can't shoot jump shots.
Bowers can't shoot free throws.
Bowers can't rebound.
Bowers thinks he's a point guard.
Other than that, great player.

The sad thing is I feel like he's improved his FT shooting a good bit.

Bowers fricking sucked yesterday. If we had one more player, i'd suggest less playing time for him. He is garbage this year.

He has and he's not that bad of a rebounder either. He's just an extremely frustrating player to watch. He also makes boneheaded plays that are momentum killers. I don't think he's as terrible as he's perceived because of how frustrating he is to watch. The team is better with Spencer playing. He at least doesn't singlehandedly kill our momentum.

If he could just learn to play within his ability he would be fine. He just tries to do way too much. His passing terrifies me. He throws it as hard a possible and you never really know where it's going.

Kareem Canty is probably frustrating player #2. USCe made it a mission to guard him close the second he crossed half court. He easily could drive and force backside help leaving Harris wide open
Took us 30 minutes of gametime for him to process this.

Frank Martin has gone 14-18, 14-20, and 17-16 the three seasons prior to this season. Currently, they're 14-0.
He had a revolving door of depth similar to what Pearl has now the first two seasons. Once he had young talent begin to move through his system they began to improve.
Pearl is exciting as a coach and recruits well but he's not a miracle worker. The goal this year was .500 (according to Pearl, IIRC) basketball and I expect next year to be when we really see a much better team. Until then, it should be fun just watching our guys get healthy and knocking off several opponents late in the year that we shouldn't.

There are two easy to accomplish "miracles" that could save Auburn basketball
1- Make everyone shoot Rick Berry FTs if their % is less than 75%
2- Force Bowers to do Mikan drills until he can't move
We are 10-3 if this happens

In the Colorado and MTSU games, Auburn shot ~50% FT and Bowers was 20%FG and 31%FG
I don't see us blowing double digit leads in games where we make FTs and our big man doesn't brick layups

That's not my critique on your post. It's that Auburn fans here always have the answer to our problems and they're always really, really simple

The difference between herp derp and solid is simple. Going from solid to good/great team is a little more complicated.
Any idiot can look at our ~50% FT in losses and Bowers shooting some 25% on volume shooting and can say "That's probably why they blew a doule digit lead"

I will say this is a successful season as long as two things happen
1- Rick Berry style free throw shooting.
2- Bruce Pearl throws a chair during poorly officiated game.

Maybe we should fire Bruce Pearl and hire Genes Chin then
