Sharing time at the quarterback position during his high school days, Joey Gatewood needed reps to see his game take off. He got some of those during the spring, but combined with his work during bowl practices it has been enough for Gatewood to really take big strides forward as a player, particularly in the passing game. If he makes the cut as expected and is one of Auburn’s top two quarterbacks heading into the fall then it should only allow more reps and more of a chance for him to continue to improve.

Last season JaTarvious Whitlow got an opportunity to settle in at the running back position and he ended up leading the Tigers in rushing yards and touchdowns as a redshirt freshman. Following a strong offseason in the weight room and conditioning program, the player known as Boobee looked like a different player in the spring. With great vision and an improved burst, Whitlow is in line for a potential very big year in Auburn’s offense.

Perhaps nobody on the roster has improved his stock as much as Harold Joiner has in the last year. Always having the athleticism and ability to be a difference-maker on offense, the Mountain Brook High product has backed that up by answering questions about his toughness and physicality in the spring. While he can run the ball if needed, his best position may be the three-back in Auburn’s offense because of his versatility to play in the backfield, on the edge as a blocker and also catch the ball.

A former walk-on defensive lineman turned fullback, Spencer Nigh has been impressive while working behind Chandler Cox at the fullback position for the Tigers and now he may finally have the opportunity to show what he can do following a big spring for the Auburn offense. At nearly 270 pounds, Nigh could be a road grader in the running game for the Tigers to follow behind.

One of the players who was expected to make an early impact last season for the Auburn offense at wide receiver, Matthew Hill played behind senior Ryan Davis, who rarely came off the field. Because of that Hill was able to redshirt learn the position from one of the best to ever do it for the Tigers. Now ready to show what he can do, Hill’s performance in the A-Day game showed his ability to stretch the field, but to also make people miss with the ball in his hands.

While he wasn’t a player who had a big A-Day game, redshirt junior Marquis McClain finally showed the consistent playmaking ability throughout the spring that the coaches have been waiting for out of the former high school quarterback. At 6-2, 224, McClain is physical and can be a force for the Tigers if he continues to make strides heading into the fall.

Down to 312 pounds after checking in at 325 last season, 6-5 guard Brodarious Hamm is a powerful player who has impressed his coaches and players with his ability to move the pile in the running game since last fall. Making the move from defensive tackle to offensive line at the start of spring practice a year ago, Tashawn Manning has been in constant learning mode under the watchful eye of J.B. Grimes. At 6-3, 326 pounds Manning has the size to be a force inside at left guard and with very long arms his ability to protect the passer should be a strength as he continues to develop at the position.

Following the path laid down by former Auburn offensive lineman Robert Leff, Bailey Sharp has continued to develop during his time on the Plains and comes out of the spring as a solid backup tackle for the Tigers capable of getting the job done if called upon. Already one of Auburn’s best offensive lineman, Prince Tega Wanogho Jr. has a year of starting experience under his belt and comes out of the spring as a much improved player for the Tigers. A more patient player at the left tackle position that continues to get better and better with his pad level, the former defensive lineman for the Tigers has a chance to play his way into a very high draft choice with a big senior year.
