Support. If trading for Arenado isn't in the cards (and this ownership group has never shown they will take on a contract like that) then do everything possible to resign Donaldson. If we don't resign him then he'll end up in Washington kicking our arse 18 times a year for the next 4 years.

Arenado's numbers are inflated from Coors, and is owed $234M thru 2026.

The price is too damn high.

I don't see an alternative COA to either paying Donaldson too much $ for 4 years, or making a trade for Bryant paying a fair amount of $ and probably paying too much in prospect capital to the Cubs for the 2 years.

AA is shrewd, so there are probably options out there we're not considering.

He absolutely needs to be retained and it’s shameful he hasn’t been given a contract yet.

Revenues, via fan support/ticket sales have been huge the past 2 years.

The fans come out to the ballpark, Donaldson is putting in hard work to stay healthy and productive. Braves FO need to sign him ASAP.

Gut feeling is that Donaldson wants to come back but the Nats have made him a gigantic offer and the Braves have been given a chance to match it. It's a little higher and maybe a year longer than what AA is comfortable with and he's seeing what else is out there before making a final decision.

Same. And agree about seeing him with the Nats. Suzuki, Sanchez.... Donaldson. No thank you.

Paying a 38 year old Josh Donaldson $25-$30M probably makes the front office queasy but the window to win is open right now and it might be worth paying him on the last two years of a four year deal to get the production we'd probably get in the first two years of that deal.

Evacuate the city, engage all defenses, and get this man a contract.

The Braves have never really operated that way. They focus on their young stars and then sign veterans to short-term deals. A 4 year deal worth 100 mil + is not something the Braves should touch imo. Remember it started with 2 years, then moved to 3 and now it will likely take 4 years to get Donaldson.

If it was the Twins who made Donaldson the best offer, the Braves would have probably already wished him good luck and pivoted to other options. But since it's the Nats, the decision is not that easy.

That's not a gut feeling lol. That's what's been reported through multiple sources. I don't care about paying a 38 year old Josh $25mil. This team is capable of winning a championship or 2 before that contract runs out with him being a big piece in it. And sometimes dudes still play like studs at that age. Chipper Jones and Adrian Beltre for example. Every team should be willing to take some risks and I don't think many people would be mad at this one. But imagine if he has a 4 WAR season for the Nats at 38. Imagine how pissed we would be then.

I predict Austin Riley will be the opening day 3bmen. If he can put it all together, he could be a .280, 40 hr type player. I just don’t see the Braves paying a guy in his mid 30’s $100 million. That’s still a lot of money. If we had an owner like author blank with unlimited funds, it’d be a different story. But the Braves have to operate within a budget and they have to be smart with the funds they do have to spend.

Why give up the known for the unknown when we're so close to a championship?

Riley's strikeout rate once teams got film on him was terrifying

Yes, but also not fair to judge him on one bad stretch. Donaldson struggled out of the gate and had some very ugly K’s. Riley had a 25% k rate in the minors, which of pretty typical these days.
