Question for UGA fans
First, while I am an LSU fan, I have 2 kids who graduated from Georgia and they are my 2nd team.

Second, I don’t want to ask this question on the SEC Rant because that place is a cesspool.

So, why did Fromm declare for the draft?
None of the normal reasons seem to fit:
1st or 2nd rounder? No
Financial need? Doesn’t seem so.
Young guy about to overtake him? Not that I know of.

It seems another year could have been good for him.
Only reason I could think of is that he knew Kirby was going to continue with his antiquated Alabama offense. No offense intended. I was so frustrated watching that offense last year.

re: Question for UGA fans
I’m not sure there is one reason. Offensively philosophy was certainly changing but I’m sure going most of the year being dumped on by a majority of the fanbase did a number on him as well. It certainly appears he made the wrong decision but hopefully Newman is a step in the right direction for us

good call.

I think there's probably a few reasons. For one he doesn't necessarily have a ton to prove. His 2019 season was a major dip, but his 17/18 seasons speak for themselves. Coming back in 20 could have helped some, but might as well go ahead now and start earning.

In 17 and 18 he had a strong WR corp/OL/RBs and a semicompetent OC, and as mentioned he was excellent. In 2019 he had a piss poor OC and overall a pretty mediocre to sometimes bad WR group, which IMO is the main reason for his regression. In 2020 we have a new OC which is great, but it's a new system to learn from scratch. And while our WR may be a bit better there's still a lot of new faces so it may be a crapshoot early on. Not to mention a lot of new blood at OL and RB. My opinion is he felt like his 17 and 18 tape was enough to show what he's REALLY like, and didn't want to throw a potential 2nd bad season on film.

Thanks guys.
What you say makes sense.
Didn’t know about the new OC. That’s a relief.
I won’t cheer for Georgia v LSU in an SEC championship game. But if LSU is not in the playoff I want to see UGA get a natty.

Fromm is who he is. He is maxed out physically, and another year in Athens probably wouldnt have helped really, but another year in Athens definitely could have hurt.

Probably a new offensive coordinator was being hired and he thought staying a year and learning a new system wouldn't improve his stock. I don't think it matters, because his skills don't translate well to the NFL. I see him lasting 3-4 years as a backup before he's released ala David Greene or Aaron Murray. I hope I'm wrong.

Seems like most of his OL got drafted pretty high.

I can see him not wanting to start over with a new OL.

This was my thought. You either stay and become the next Joe Burrow, in terms of increasing your draft stock with a new offense (unlikely for Fromm)

or

you just provide another basic year that really adds nothing to your current value as a prospect.

I don't see an issue with his decision. He'll get his shot in the NFL, but in my mind he was always a David Greene/Aaron Murray type that was good to great in college, but doesn't have what it takes to be a NFL stud.

I think the 3 OCs in 4 years, plus the fans dumping on him, made his decision for him. Plus, Monken's offense, to me, is not a great fit for his skill set.

re: Question for UGA fans
He has to adjust to a new OC and new offense.

Might as well do that getting paid as an apprentice in his dream job.

I disagree with those who feel that he couldn't improve his draft stock. That is a very narrow view of college football. It only takes 1 NFL team to fall in love with your grit, leadership, or determination.

But if you talk to any NFL player or agent... the goal is to maximize that 2nd NFL contract. Fromm is actually on the path to doing that now.
He's playing the long game. I wish him well. He didn't finish what he started. And I think that will eat him up inside (much like it has disgruntled a lot of fans towards him). But the circumstances for a new OC change everything. I get it.
