Here, here. If Maddux isn’t unanimous then no one should be

I'm shocked we got him for 1/$18 million. Helluva a deal for us. Got a solid cleanup hitter while not blocking our OF prospects and kept all our other top prospects for the time being. One more year to let the minor league pitchers develop. Great job by AA!

I still think it is silly that the only unanimous HOFer only played in 4.9% of his team's innings in his best season (according to ERA+).

Don't get me wrong, Mariano Rivera is a HOFer. The above is just a statement on the overemphasis on a closer during the course of a season. You obviously have to have the SPs to get the ball game to the closer in the 9th to get that save.

The way I kind of see it:

A downgrade at cleanup in the line up (Ozuna for Donaldson)

A downgrade in field at 3rd (Riley/Camargo for Donaldson)

An upgrade in the field at OF (Ozuna for Markakis/Riley)

??? in the back half of the lineup (Camargo/Riley for Markakis) - I think there is upside for this to be an upgrade but I have to see it. Markakis, Riley and Camargo all had periods of being a complete black hole in the lineup last year.

At this point I'm glad the Braves made this deal because there was just no answer in the lineup for cleanup hitter, but at the same time looking big picture I don't think we are better from this series of moves than we were last year.

The other upside here is that this being a one year deal really does leave a lot of options going forward. At some point you get tired of talking about "financial flexibility" and are going to need the organization to cash in those chips with a serious run to win it all now, but nevertheless the Braves do continue to make moves that ensure we are going to be competitive for the next few years.

I like the move, but I'm still just arse-hurt over him spanking us in the NLDS.

This would be the correct assessment. If we get improvement from the young guys we can certainly be better, but our starting pitching still isn't good enough to be serious contenders.

Rotation and bullpen are better.

Offensive production will probably be about the same

Yea, we still need to address some concerns with pitching.
