I want Atlanta United to win, but, "die hard Atlanta United fan since 2017" has been ultra annoying as of late.
Like, they enjoy the struggles of the Braves, Falcons, and Hawks, and have somehow contrived that the MLS soccer team is the dominant sports brand in the city.
As much as I'm glad we've got a winning franchise in the city - let's not act like the MLS club is some beacon of hope. They play in a stadium built for the Falcons and financed by Falcons PSLs. It's not that hard to sellout games when your lower-level clubs seats don't come with a 15 thousand dollar contractual obligation per-seat and cost $350-500 a game.
Arthur Blank has paid several Falcons players the total cost of what it took to purchase the franchise. Steve Cannon (AMB CEO) in 2017 even said the effort to bring a soccer team was in part a real-estate play; any tenants and events type deal.
I can assure you a Super Bowl is worth 100x what an MLS cup is to Arthur Blank. While obvious to most, it's not obvious to all. His net-worth is tied exceedingly heavy to his NFL franchise. If PSL owners default, he'll be on the hook for a large percentage of what the soccer team is worth.
Julian Gressel made $111,000 last year, if that puts anything in perspective for anyone.
Going to head down tonight, and pay me 40 dollars for a conference final ticket. Hoping for a "W," but will take solace in a loss knowing the social justice warrior fanbase is crying into their craft brews should we lose.

What a random fricking melt for this thread.

Can't believe the path has been paved again to host the Cup Final. First we didn't have to play in the abomination of a soccer field that is Yankee Stadium. Now we would get to avoid LAFC and traveling across country for the Cup Final.
I am worried about Toronto though. Particularly with no Miles Robinson again. I wonder if he would be back for the final if ATL advances?

Bruh, while I understand what you're saying in the sense that a Braves WS or a Falcons SB would probably be more of an "accomplishment" for the city, don't shite on ATL UTD. They were a brand new franchise that made the playoffs their 1st year, won it all their 2nd year and now back in the Eastern Conf. Finals in their 3rd.
To have that kind of success in ATL is pretty unheard of so don't shite on it!!

I have no issue with the team, or organization. It's first class.
The fanbase is ultra-annoying. That's all. I think I explained my position pretty well. It's a great thing to have in the city, but the fanbase acting like they are the mount rushmore of athletic competition is a bit unnerving, especially to those who have been Atlanta sports fans longer than 3 years.

Where are you seeing and hearing this? And so what if passionate fans of the club take a lot of pride and joy out of winning? Maybe soccer is their favorite sport so to them personally their soccer team winning IS a bigger deal to them. There are plenty of Braves fans that aren’t Falcons fans. There are plenty of Hawks fans that aren’t Braves fans. Etc. It doesn’t diminish anything about the other Atlanta teams when someone personally values their favorite team’s/sports’s accomplishment more than you might deem appropriate or deserved.

Do you understand how contracts work? He's still on the first contract he signed right out of college when no one knew what he could really do.
Miles Robinson was on a similar contract and just signed a new one at ~$650k/year.

Obviously a World Series, Super Bowl, or NBA Title would all be bigger deals for the city; it's hard to tell someone to not be excited when their team is on the verge of 2 league titles within the first 3 years of existence.
I can't really complain because they have Atlanta in their name, so they represent this city and it's nice to see a team finally win some hardware around here. Soccer fans are just a nutty bunch.

Completely agree with you. I didn't realize the fan base was really like that until after the Braves lost. I can't tell you how many soccer head co-workers and acquaintances came up to me or messaged me about "ATL UTD baby, they win unlike your shitty baseball team! Go Five Stripes, come to the soccer side."
It was almost like they were reveling in their niche sport still being the only team with recent championship success. It's beyond stupid.

I don't understand how those people can't cheer for the other Atlanta teams. Unless they're just a transplant who picked up United after they came here, it makes no sense.

I honestly believe it's because a ton of the United fanbase is hipsters who hopped on the soccer bandwagon because it wasn't mainstream. And those people love shitting on the things other people love.

That's a league minimum in the NBA.

I'd buy this.
Wish we'd dump half the PSL costs on their asses and see how woke they are to capitalism.
There's a reason most of the games they play on the road are in front of 20K people. There isn't an NFL owner/fanbase footing the bill for their good time.
Either way, Go United. Go to hell, hipster Atlanta United fanbase.

True, but one of them he has, and the other he will never see.
