Large portion of next year's cap hit have been paid out in 2019 bonuses. Falcons now $12 million under projected salary cap for 2020.

Seems like a precursor to sign Hooper to a long term deal

Doesn't fix the poor drafting and poor construction of the lines that's happened the last few years. Then, Atlanta waits till they have no shot at the playoffs so they can play their way out of decent draft position. It's the Atlanta way. Every team in the league goes out and tanks and we are out here clipping the Saints and San Fran.

There have been some rough drafts over the last few years but I think this most recent one will eventually prove to be a good one. Lindstrom looks like a stud, McGary looks good when Lindstrom is next to him, and Sheffield looks like a solid nickel back.
This team hasn't had a pass rusher that scares offenses since John Abraham was in town. The whiffs on Beasley and Takk have really, really hurt.

Tanking in the NFL is overrated

Examples?
I saw a lot of teams playing hard to win last week when losing was to their advantage
Unlike basketball, these guys are playing for jobs.

The talent you can add a pick 2 or 3 where the Falcons were initially compared to 15/16 is massive. That's not to say you can't hit on guys at the back of the draft but thats the difference between Chase Young or some project we hope pans out.
The NBA is the only league that has fully addressed tanking by the last place team having a 14pct chance to win a draft lottery. The Bengals did play hard vs Miami last game but the difference is neither one of these teams even attempted to field competitive rosters this season. Miami literally traded away Minka Fitzpatrick and other assets knowing they were in tank mode. The Raiders did the exact same thing last year trading away Amari Cooper and Khalil Mack - and you are seriously trying to say teams don't tank. When a team starts trading away it's stars for draft picks - they are tanking regardless of how hard the backups come in and try to win.

Miami this year - The Raiders last year. Clear examples of a team giving up on seasons and ensuring better draft position.

Miami tanking
Like I said, teams are certainly tanking. Yes I know Miami won a few games because I don't think they are just giving away games- They just gutted the roster to ensure they wouldn't be very good. Puts them in a good position to grab a QB this year.

I follow you. I was going with a different definition of tanking.

This team was never going to tank on purpose. Last year proved that.

Quinn was playing for his job and retained it. The problem is we were out of the playoffs 7 weeks in and I believe the only roster dump was Sanu. We could have offloaded a couple more assets and really prepared for the draft but instead we decided to be a good football team which makes you wonder how we were so damn horrible to start the season if they were capable of ending the last 7 games at 5-2 with wins over really good teams. The Sanu trade was great because we got a 2nd rounder for an average receiver.

Preaching to the choir. Wanted Bro's arse fired at the bye. Blank's decisions make me wonder how he was so successful with HD.

So did they "decide" to bad the 1st half?
I'm on the boarder about dumping Quinn but I sure as Hell don't wanna go through a player dump/rebuild the next 2 years

The Lions made an offer for Freeman and the Falcons inexplicably turned it down. Falcons should have taken it even if the offer was a conditional late round pick. Freeman is going to be a cap casualty and won't be on the roster next season.

Inexcusable. Don't care if we ever re-sign another runningback. This money could have been used elsewhere. Freeman rode Shanahan to that contract.

Oh, the idea in your OP was something that you thought up on your own.
There is no link.
