I found myself watching that Hyndman guy this past Sat. He looked like a solid upgrade for ATL this season and seems to mesh well with the team and how they want to play.

Really like that guy!

It's interesting. So many of us were understandably pretty worried about losing Nagbe and his amazing ability to control the middle of the field and keep possession. He was like that ultimate security blanket keeping things calm. However, with him gone at least early on I think we are seeing things move a little faster from front to back with guys like Hyndman and Remedi pushing things forward a little more and a little more quickly than Nagbe did. Nagbe was that "I'm going to make that solid safe pass at a ridiculous 90% rate and never turn the ball over" guy. The "replacements" this year seem to be a little more offensive minded and take a little bit more risk. Still remains to be seen but so far I dare say I haven't missed Nagbe as much as I thought I was going to. I do still miss him though.

With that said with Club America coming up Wednesday I can't help but remember Nagbe's absolutely brilliant game against them last year in the Campeones Cup. To me he was easily the man of the match and just absolutely controlled the middle of the field most of the night. I'd kind of like to have him out there Wednesday. We shall see. If Hyndman keeps scoring a goal every game, we will be alright!

We haven't played a team yet that has a good attack, but I think Meza has been an upgrade over LGP so far. Has been really solid defensively, good passing, and without the boneheaded fouls. Has really kept the defense together after having so many injuries.

The question for me is whether they are still going to try and get a starting striker from somewhere or if they will tweak the lineup/formation

They are still trying to get a starter quality striker. Frank said so after the game. They are having trouble fitting someone in with the cap space we have remaining. As Rossetto and Castro get more familiar with the team, I wouldn't be surprised to see Pity move to striker with one of them taking his place opposite Barco.

Speaking of Barco, he still needs to make decisions quicker. Dribbles for far too long. Take the 3 on 1 we had late in the game. Waited way too long to play the ball forward.

I agree. And I loved LGP despite his faults. But Meza looks really comfortable. He has been a HUGE constant with the revolving door on the back line to start the season. Can't wait to see how it looks with all first choice players back there. Robinson, Meza, Escobar sounds like perhaps the makings of the best back line in MLS.

Although I'm wondering if once we have everyone back we don't see Escobar get some play at wingback. Lennon and Mulraney have been just okay to this point. Nobody is doing what Gressel (and even Meram) did last year which is get down the line and put dangerous crosses in. If we are going to play Jahn at striker it be nice to get a few crosses into the box from the wing. Maybe it's just tactical though, the absence of Gressel and Meram making runs into the attacking third seems to be allowing Pity and Barco to roam around wherever they want which isn't a bad thing either.

Agreed. But I absolutely love his work rate this year. Dude is flying around in the attack and on defense. Hopefully the more confident/quicker decision on scoring opportunities will come. He is still quite young so I bet it does. Of course once it does he will probably be playing in Europe shortly thereafter!

either of which gets us back in the CCL next year, which to me is the baseline of success for this club

as a very casual fan and not a big soccer guy, this too is my benchmark at this point. We need to be in the CCL every year and actually do something when we get there. That is why the Josef injury is so bothersome to me. It seems like we have come out the gate really strong as opposed to last year, and I thought we might have had a legit chance to potentially win the CCL. I think we can still qualify for next year's CCL without Josef, but I was hoping to make some noise this year.

I think Mulraney has been great for how little we're probably paying him. Super fast, not afraid to take defenders on, better defensively than Meram.

Lennon has been a little safer than Mulraney, but that's probably because he's been asked to stay further back to help Wyke. Lennon could have had one or two assists against Cincy (Barco blasted an open shot from the top of the 18 about 20 yards over the goal).

Wonder if there's any strikers in Italy that want to get out of the country for 8 months.

ATL was linked with Salomon Rondon, Josef's strike partner in the Venezuelan national side. He's playing in China, which has been suspended since January. Rondon has been training in Spain since December, but he makes $8 million annually, likely ruling him out.

Ouch. Went down 3-0 to CA tonight in Mex City. We clearly were playing to defend and counter with the strange starting lineup. I think that conservative mentality bit us in the arse and America took advantage in the 1st half. Second half looked much better and frankly a bit unlucky not to get a goal to make it 3-1 which would give an outside chance of making something happen next week at home. As is the CCL is pretty much over.

With the injuries to Josef and the decimated back line I wasn’t really expecting to advance but still losing 3-0 always sucks.

Also Rosestto got hurt so the crazy injury streak continues. If this team can get healthy and get everyone back (except Josef of course) I still think they can have a good season and win the East. I don’t think we are better than LAFC without Josef but the MLS playoff setup is such that you have a chance if you just make it in.

Oh and Barco and Pity didn’t play great especially in the first but I loved their effort in the second half. You could tell they were determined not to let the team quit and suffer a truly humiliating result.

Pity was inches away from a payoff on a couple crossbars. I do wonder if they will have any legs for Sat game against Sporting KC. They spent a lot of energy at 7000 feet tonight chasing the game in the second half.
