Ender is a very bad leadoff hitter. I don't get it. Dude hits a dribbler to the right side 80% of the time. He doesn't walk.
If only there was half a season worth of stats available to see how Acuna handled himself at the leadoff spot.
But seriously, wasn't Donaldson supposed to be the HR-hitting cleanup hitter to follow Freddie? Wasn't that the purpose behind signing him since Markaksis wasn't hitting a lot of HR's as a cleanup guy?

Between this and Atlanta United I am loving life right now.

Phillies might be the best team in baseball. That lineup is lit AF. But we got to throw our young pitchers out there. Even if this is going to be a down year, we need to get them as much experience as possible.

Liberty Media has no say in the payroll of the Braves. The Braves are the own entity that is just gives Liberty Media more equity to the Corp. the one who makes all the calls on money is McGuirk (sp*)...i really with people would do the research before continuing to say this
McGuirk can only do so much. Liberty’s revenue skyrocketed since STP and the battery opened, and add on the success the braves had last year. Liberty makes their yearly revenue public so you can do your own research on that and find out why they’re increasing in revenue and spending zero taxpayer subsidized profits into our stagnant annual payroll.

Liberty cannot infuse money into the Braves, due to SEC law and the agreement when they aquired the Braves as an asset in the Turner Deal...

Bottom Line Up Front:
- Liberty Media didn't "buy" the Braves, they acquired them in a company "swap" of assets between Liberty and Time Warner.
- This swap was worth $1.8billion. It allowed Time Warner to acquire a very LARGE amount of their own stock, which LM owned. By swapping assets, instead of buying the stock, TW and LM were able to save around $770M in taxes (since there was no capital gains).
- LM had no interest in being Braves owners. The Braves were simply an asset in TW's portfolio worth $440M that helped match up so that both companies swapped the equal value of assets ($1.8B).
- MLB owners had to approve the "exchange", and were concerned that LM would neglect the Braves. LM agreed to let the Braves run independently of LM as a condition of the exchange.
- LM left Terry McGuirk as the chairman of the Braves, and he runs the company. All financial and operational decisions ultimately are his. LM does not interfere with the operations.
- LM does not use the Braves as a tax "writeoff". Meaning, LM can t benefit in tax breaks by having the Braves lose money. All revenue generated by the Braves remains with the Braves; LM does not benefit directly from increased revenue generation.
- LM is forbidden by exchange laws and the SEC from injecting cash into the Braves, as LM is a publicly traded company subject to strict fiduciary responsibility and SEC oversight. Owners Of LM Stock don't benefit from LM losing money.
- LM is a $9B per year revenue company. It has no interest in jeopardizing their future by injecting cash into the Braves.
- If the Braves want to increase payroll, they need to pay for that from their own budget... which essentially means they have to increase revenue.
- The Battery allowed the Braves to create additional streams of revenue. While they also have additional costs associated with this new complex, the Braves believe this will ultimately allow them to support a practice as a consistent Top 10 payroll club.
- LM was originally forbidden from reselling the Braves but that restriction expired in 2012. They can now resell the Braves anytime they want, but right now they have no real incentive to do so. While LM is forbidden from receiving cash value directly from the Braves, they are still an asset that has value; as long as the Braves maintain (or increase) their estimated worth, they indirectly provide LM with increased value. My own analogy would be like having a gold bar sitting in your home safe as part of your investment portfolio; the gold doesn't make you money and doesn't cost you anything, it just has appraised value that you could, if you wanted, try to exchange for real value. But the process of doing so costs you time, effort, and money in sales taxes or processing fees...if the gold continues to hold value, or even increase value, you have little incentive to exchange it for anything else.
- So LM may not be as fun as having a Ted Turner billionaire fan as owner, who would inject cash to win, but LM is insulated by laws and contracts from significant involvement with the Braves, which kinda absolves them of a lot of criticisms.

Their revenue increased to $430 million last...which puts em near the top 10 in MLB.This is with their rather crappy TV deal

yes but the hate towards LM isnt warranted, they have no control there...its on Terry McGuirk thats all im saying...i do agree the fact that they arent spending is a bad move especially after last year and this core of youngsters. Should have atleast signed some solid pen arms at the least this past offseason instead of going dumpster diving trying to get some bargains.

Newcomb really needs a short inning here or we're going back to the bullpen.

Good to get that first one.
The bats haven't been bad early on.
Perhaps Folty, Gausman, and Minter coming back soon can solidify the pitching situation a bit.
Still seems like a tall tasks to keep pace with the Phillies in the division but it's a long season so hopefully we make it interesting.
