That’s a bargain. He doesn’t ever need to wear another uniform.

10 years, 134 with 2 club options. AA is the GOAT.

Well Atlanta definitely has the "financial flexibility" to do it now.

Giving AA the benefit of the doubt, this could be a big part of what he was talking about with the "financial flexibility" talk. Not sure how the deal is structured but if it is averages to 12.5 million over 8 years which would mean the payroll just went up about 12 million this year. It's possible that signing another big contract or two in the offseason could have been a problem in getting this deal done right now.

Hopefully with this deal done, Atlanta will be in a position to make some trade deadline deals this year if in contention and it makes sense.

Yeah, seeing as the first deal of the contract takes effect this season, AA had probably had preliminary talks early this year and wanted to make sure the budget was there to get it done.

We were something like 3 million less on payroll than at the beginning of 2018, so this should put us over 120 million with the same 10-15 million AA has been saying he was saving for in season upgrades.

I still remember braves fans melting down after we traded Heyward, who is now one of the most overpaid players in the game. I do appreciate the passion, but a lot of fans are just irrational. I’m all for making any deal just as long as it’s the right deal. Just because we might have the money to spend doesn’t mean we should just spend it. I’ve heard AA on the radio a few times now and he seems very sharp imo. Whether or not we make any trades will likely be dependent on our record around the deadline.

Also, I’m guessing the deal kicks in next year, but could be wrong.

This is huge news. And agree that this was likely in the works this off season and why we needed the cap room.

It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to understand that it is important to lock up Acuna now for longer and cheaper. However, our pitching issues remain.

He won't even make $5 million until 3 years from now.

Still tons of money to sign Kimbrell or whoever to 2 or 3 year deal.

Yep, and then 17 per there after, right when Freeman’s contract is up, likely not coincidental. 120 must be the internal number, I hope I’m wrong. The league average is 133 so far.

l sure as hell hope not.It was higher than that last year.

Let's hope they left some room on there for more acquisitions

Yes, but paying Kimbrel or keuchel $20 mil per year is not very smart for a team like the braves. You really want your highest paid player to be a closer? A deteriorating one at that... I think braves fans have to get that fantasy out of their heads.

Doing nothing is less smart, especially when the Braves are a top ten market and revenue team.

And Inciarte is out of the lineup altogether with Acuna shifting to center and Camargo getting the start in left. I wonder if this will be norm with left handed hitters this year (Inciarte out and Camargo starts)?
