Why on earth would we hire Lane Kiffin?

Because he's funny on twitter? Come on folks, be smarter. We don't want him anywhere near our program, he would just embarrass us further. He has no respect for authority, that's why he bounces around so much. He bolts the minute he bumps heads with one of his superiors.

I know it’s bait.

Sure, we wouldn’t want someone that could recruit and win games.

They won’t. This is how we end up down the list with a 'safe' hire.

The question is do you want someone safe that will win 8-9 games a year or someone with risk involved that has potential to go further.

I'm a gambler and will take the risk. Hire him a personal assistant/babysitter if we have to, but I don't want any hire where we know what the ceiling is when we sign him.

Yep, that is exactly the only possible reason.

Heaven forbid we hire a good coach and not the 6th choice safe candidate.

He hasn't won THAT big, and he's left on bad terms everywhere he's been.

Correct, but point me to one place he has been so far that was optimal for him to win big.

He wasn't at Ten. long enough

USC got killed by NCAA while he was there.

FAU he has made huge strides in one year.

He worked for Saban for 2 years and didn’t have any issues. Plus as I’ve said on here before, him bolting in 2 years probably leaves us in a better position talent wise than we’ve been in a long time.

Risk.

We need to go high ceiling, high reward even if it requires high risk.

Take a chance on someone young, hungry, perhaps inexperienced unless a Brohm type is interested but that won’t happen because no Texas roots.

Settling for safe is wasting another 5 years.

Has it occurred to anyone that maybe AD’s don’t want to deal with guys like Leach or Kiffin? There’s a reason no one is seriously considering them,

he left Tenner to jump at the USC job - you would have done the same thing

he didn't leave Alabama on bad terms

he's not on bad terms at FAU

Al Davis at the Raiders hated him? Who cares?

Southern Cal... I don't care. I don't remember the story with him and Pat Hayden. But Hayden promoted frickin Ed O , the same guy who helped get them on probation

like the others said, no risk, no reward

Given that even the people who want him hired have said they don't think it will happen

I'm going to go with yes

The other advantage of Kiffin is he isn’t likely to do just well enough to not get fired. He either does great or crashes and burns. My concern with hiring a coach lies more in getting someone that goes 7-5 or 8-4 every year as a ceiling, and hangs around for 8 years.

No reason we shouldn’t expect more. Alabama looks great for 3 reasons: Bear, Stallings and Saban. Amazing how pedestrian that program looks with other coaches in charge.

recheck your facts on that bro

"fired" for what? "Fired" for taking the FAU job and spending time at both jobs, and Saban didn't like the arrangement.
