Jeff,
Just wanted to say that this note is long past due. As I watched your press conference this past spring I wanted to reach out and say how much I respected your actions but more importantly your words. As a head coach I know that my comments are looked at in every way possible. Here at UW I have a great AD because he is a man of his word and asks the same for all of us. Best wishes moving forward and stay strong. It was the right call! Best Wishes, Bret

P.S. One thing I have learned through my time at UW is that today’s society wants to win them all, but as Coaches and Administrators we need to balance the Big Picture for all our student-athletes!

Seems really weird, but clearly, CBB wanted this job many months ago and this put him #1 on Longs list.

I think I've been on this board for not very long and I've seen this 4 times.

Better than mine, or my doctors.

Apparently he sends out several of these when he sees "right" in the world each year.

No biggie. Mountain out of a mole hill.

Personally I believe he WAS hired months ago, albeit unofficially until just recently.

It should remain within the context for which it was written.

This. and it won't and hasn't because, of course, it's us.

Arkansas has one of the best FOI laws in the country, if this had to be released because of the law I wouldn't be surprised. Its silly that the law ends up being used for athletic department documents but having an open government is important.

As a former member of the day-to-day media I have experience filing FOIs and such. I will be glad to take questions now.

It shouldn't have been released, but BB did himself a favor by writing it as if it were already going public.

I personally think the whole FOI deal is a joke. Sure it helps us with athletic department documents for our incessant need for college football info but any real government info that people would want to see isn't FOIable.

I don't make that much out of the letter from BB's point of view at the time. When BB was on Rome, Rome "vouched" for him, saying that BB sent Rome a handwritten thank you note every time BB appeared on Rome's show. I think that is just BB's style.

I DO however think that it is an early hint that Long had caught BB's eye as a stand-up, do-the-right-thing kinda AD. I suspect that when BB grew frustrated over not being able to pay assistant coaches enough to keep them at Wisc, BB was probably impressed with Ark's willingness to pay for assistants AND with Long's reputation as a do-the-right-thing kinda guy. It probably helped give us an edge over Tennessee.

I never took it out of context. I wish people would have just taken it FWIW.

ETA: Although I must admit, if I felt like I was getting the hammer at the end of my upcoming season, I'd start to do a little networking myself. No better place to start than Arkansas. Decent talent, in the SEC west, rich tradition, great fanbase, great city, great state, better pay, and more room to work with...who wouldn't want in on that?

Compared to Wisconsin, Arkansas isn't a top paying program in terms of assistants in the country and we are not to far removed from having the Wisconsin model as far as assistant pay.

Auburn and Tennessee both have paid more than we have for coordinators and position coaches...

CBB writes letters all the time, he will continue to do so, it is what it is, he wasn't "lifting his skirt" or any other cliche trying to get the job...
