Very much agree. Sometimes it’s warranted, but Silverfield is no better or worse of a hire than names like Golesh, Morris, Summrall, etc. - they are all potential Billy Napiers until they prove otherwise. And the players that were “losing” weren’t good anyway and didn’t want to be here. I never liked Sam Pittman bc I don’t think it was wise to hire a career OL coach as a D1 football coach in the SEC, but I gave him a chance to dig his own grave and I think a lot of us did as much as we could. When we start playing, we will know whether or not Silverfield writes checks he can cash. Honestly, I was skeptical about the Calipari hire other than loving the Kentucky melt - but so far, pretty decent. If Yuracek will just screw off and stop stepping on his own dick and creating a trickle-down effect, we might just win. Don’t know if we’ll ever get back to where we were during Petrino’s first run - that was also a small sample size and we had some great in-state recruiting combined with a highly disciplined coach with an eye for talent and development. With NIL, there’s a lot more parity, so things are just different than they were in the 2010s. Back then, if you were winning, it was typically a lot easier to recruit well consistently and have consistently good results(with good coaching).

You know Coach Silverfield is an OL coach, right?

An oline coach that has ample head coaching experience and won 10+ games multiple seasons
Experience Pittman lacked.
So he has the energy of Chad Morris & the position coach experience of Pittman, with a better resume than both. Not the first time I’ve thought the powers that be might’ve finally found in Silverfield what they thought they found in Morris & Pittman.

I didn’t realize that Silverfield went directly from OL coach to HC like Pittman. Or am I missing something from your dumbass statement. Are you really that daft or just trolling?

Noted. I’m a known commodity as usually being a negahog. But we could’ve done far worse for our situation and that is just the reality of where we are right now. I am impressed with Silverfield keeping the good players and I honestly don’t think we’re losing anyone we can’t replace 1:1 or do better on. We just went 2-10 and had no depth and no heart. At this point we need to get back to making bowls and setting goals.

I’m not impressed by the hire, but I think we could do way worse. It will all depend on if we actually get the NIL backing doesn’t matter how shite a coach is really when you have 1st round draft picks all over the lines and play makers in every position group.
I doubt that happens until we get rid of Hunter though.

I get all the negativity, to a degree. I have some too but I'm not going to write Silverfield off before he's even had a chance to prove himself. By the same token, I'm not going to sing high praises until he does prove himself. We are, and have been for a while, in a very crappy situation. This is not the Hog program I grew up watching and all youngsters, 30-ish and below, know of us is that we are below mediocre overall and a bottom feeder in the SEC. They don't know of the past successes and respect our program once held. I have a 26 year old son-in-law, who happens to be a LSU fan, and it is so frustrating to talk to him about football because all he knows is how shitty we've been for a large part of his life. All I heard over the holidays is how "lucky we were to get Silverfiled considering all of the 'better jobs' that were open." That's where we are now, sadly, so until proven he doesn't deserve it, I'm going to hope for the best and give the new coach a chance. My give a shite left a long time ago with our football team anyway. I literally expect to lose almost every game and am pleasantly surprise if we don't. I truly hope Silverfield can change that.

quote:this is most likely the answer. Silverfield will face many of the same problems Pittman faced perhaps able to do slightly better and we can have a few .500 or better seasons but we are stuck in football purgatory most likely until Hunter is shown the door and we get people who want to win in positions of power.
I have no doubt hes better than SP but still not in the top half of the SEC with an underfunded roster.

Who knows? Considering the manure show we’ve been forced to watch over the last 10 years, I have no idea what to expect next season. I believe if he goes 2-10 his first season, the fan base will implode. Maybe that’s what needs to happen to get the train back on the track. Hoping for the best. Please make me eat my words Hi Yo Silver.
