We used to float the Caddo River in college every year. Love that place.

It’s a beautiful place. My aunt lives down river of the bridge in Glenwood. Really don’t see many people floating to the 182 bridge so I can walk up and down the river fishing without seeing a lot of people.

My inlaws live off 84 near Bismarck, we lived there for a few months. Never saw a mountain lion, heard lots of coyotes though.

My wife swears she heard a scream one night deep in the woods, may have been one hunting.

I live in Hot Springs as well.

We could probably just start throwing out names and eventually figure out who each other are…but I like the anonymity of message boards. Kinda nice to be able to give a sports opinion without anyone dismissing your opinion just bc of who you are.

Humor me though…did you go to Caddo or Mt Ida?

I'm from that area too.

100% have been panthers around there for a long time. I have seen and heard them on multiple occasions. Also believe I had a dog attacked by one

Game and fish claims they are migratory. Maybe so. I just know there are plenty out there.

I think we communicated on here before. I’m from that general geographic area. I believe we talked about Buck’s slaughterhouse at the FFA building in Amity. We used to take deer over there way back in the day.

No personal experience with mountain lions in the area but we now have black bears aplenty.

Edit-also don’t sleep on the Antoine River, Graysonia, or Hollywood. Also good to know peeps from Oden (check out my Hog Jaw location) and Glenwood are on here. There was another poster on here from Washita I believe. I guess the more populated part of Glenwood is in Pike County. If you like to read about history in the area make sure you read Kenneth Smith’s Sawmill book. That’s where you can read about places such as Graysonia, Rosboro, and Mauldin.

lol I almost included Oden but I was like “Nah surely not.”

Dumb question: Does Oden still have a school or were have they consolidated?

I’d love to get into some bear hunting now that I’ve moved to the area. Is there any public land in pike county that someone could try to bear hunt?

Oden and Mount Ida both still have their schools. Norman consolidated with Caddo Gap to form Caddo Hills and their mascot, the Indians, is very fitting given the history of the Caddo Indians in that area. And of course Glenwood and Amity consolidated to form Center Point (the Knights) although I am unaware of any history of knights in that area.

I would think you would have very limited options in Pike County as far as hunting on public land goes but you should definitely explore Caney Creek WMA and its surrounding public lands and then in Montgomery County there is good public hunting around Alamo in the Ouachita NF and probably some of the best is in Muddy Creek WMA which actually had a good bear population back when they did not have many bears.

I heard discussion of it at one point but to my knowledge there is no PM mechanism for the Board.

Definitely knew all that, just didnt know if Oden still had their school. They cant have more than 20 kids in a graduating class I would assume.

Lots of those smaller school districts in that area have consolidated....Wickes, Van Cove, Acorn, to name a few. Just surprised Oden has stood up this long without consolidating with Mt. Ida.

Figures.

Well HawgSinceBirth55 if you want to give me an email address or something I can send you to some specific spots, but yes the Ouachita National Forrest will be your best bet. Lake Greeson WMA may have a few black bear but I wouldnt count on it. I deer hunt in the ONF every year and get bears on camera every year. In fact, I have a lot of trouble with them tearing up my cameras. You can shoot every single one of them for all I care.

Yea they did consolidate administrations with Acorn, but both still have their own campuses. Now the "Ouachita River School District"
