The Sam Houston State Bearkats will ride a five-game win streak into the final non-conference game of the season on Thursday when they battle Arkansas at Verizon Arena.

After starting off the season 4-3, the Kats have run their record to 9-3 with five straight wins in the month of December behind an offense that has scored 88.6 points per game during that stretch.

Sam Houston checked in at No. 81 in the latest RPI rating released by the NCAA and is one of only two Southland Conference teams in the RPI top 100, trailing only Nicholls who checked in at No. 70.

When the annual preseason polls came out from the Southland Conference, it was the Bearkats picked to claim the league crown by both the Southland SIDs and coaches. The Kats received six of 13 first-place votes in the coaches’ poll and seven in the SID poll, coming just ahead of four-time defending league champion Stephen F. Austin.

Sounds like another decent team. I like that we didn't schedule so many cupcakes this year.

Will be a solid test. We have struggled in Little Rock for basketball some. Hoping for a fast start and a good loud crowd.

We always suck arse there. And that Arena has turned into nearly as big a dump as WMS.

Ya was looking earlier this week and it was like that. Nothing good so decided not to go but I'm regretting now that I know it won't be on any media except radio.

Has been being the biggest crowd they have played in front during non-conference schedule for last few years it seems.

Decent win tonight. Great margin of victory. Wish there was a way for some of us to watch it.

If you'd like to compare scores...SHS lost to Baylor 45-79, so we both beat the Bearkats by 34.

Warrennolan has updated our RPI to 17 now after the win. His projection for our season total has also updated....25-6 is predicted final record. His record predictor this morning was 24-7 overall, 13-5 in league play.
