Not to mention his offense sucks donkey balls if he doesn't have the perfect QB running it and he's shown no ability to consistently develop those.

This is probably my biggest hangup other than the drama/division that would come along with him. I think he benefited from a once in a generation dual-threat QB more than the QB benefited from him, it didn't take a rocket surgeon or genius offensive mind. Now if he doesn't land an SEC-ready QB it just becomes a "wait until the next class" scenario.

Notice how the results have been average or worse since he's had a true athletic threat at QB, then notice how we can never seem to get those athletic threats here, and THEN notice how our recruiting is quite a bit down the list from where AU normally resides. It just wouldn't work here.

He is on average an 8-4 coach, he just hasn't had the low seasons, yet.

He went 8-5, 7-6, and 8-5 the 3 seasons following an NC appearance (the last 3 seasons), which was his first year as HC.

This is with recruiting classes ranked 10th, 6th, 8th, and 9th nationally starting with the 2013 class, the one before he became HC. WTF is he doing with all that talent? That's right, all wasted on supposed QB issues.

So even if he could get our recruiting to match AU, which is a HUGE stretch of the imagination, it looks like we'd be in for the about the same results we're accustomed to. I can't imagine the results if our recruiting stays about the same.

WTH makes you think Gus would leave AU to come here?

I think Arkansas should go after Brent Venables or this might be a little out of left field but Sonny Cumbie. He is an offensive guy, he has well connected in Texas, he seems to be a pretty good recruiter. He was ranked 195 in the overall Recruiter rankings by 247 and 24th in the Big 12. With 3 commits 2 4 stars and 1 3 star with an average rating of 89.04. Arkansas currently has 3 coaches ranked ahead of him in the ranking but their average ratings are (Barry Lunney Jr.) 87.76, (Michael Smith) 86.47, and (Reggie Mitchell)85.59. For reference Brent Venables is 40. He should be way higher considering Clemson is a top program and they're coming off back to back NC appearances.

Are you mixing us up with UAB or Arkansas State?

We're not hiring some up and coming recruiter. Get real.

He's not an up and coming recruiter. He's been the OC at Texas Tech and then at TCU since 2013. Arkansas needs someone that is going to be able to recruit Texas and is an offensive minded coach that doesn't really have to get 5 stars to compete. Coaches aren't just going to be lining up to coach at Arkansas. I like Arkansas but the job is not the most appealing.

We got an NFL coach and a 3x Big 10 winning coach our last 2 hires.

Pretty sure we can do better than a no name OC that doesn't even recruit on the level of our current garbage staff.

I agree that we need a young offensive minded guy. It seems to be the key to success in this league with the teams in our tier. However, I think they're are enough actual head coaches to choose from that we won't have to go the OC route. Sonny Cumbie would definitely be an intriguing option if we did but I think we would be able to land a Norvell, Campbell or Satterfiled type first.

yes, the problem Is that some of the big money donors are still frustratingly wanting a big name, older coach. THey are hanging on to the past so much it is stupid.

How would you feel about these

Tubbs
Gus of course...
Davis
etal....

I love Butch Davis, but he is over the hill

I think we need a young defensive minded guy, who can either bring or hire the right people on the offensive side. Being nasty on defense can smooth over a lot of deficiencies on the offensive side of the ball.

I've said this before, but thank God that hiring a football coach is not a democratic process.

The sheer stupidity of the names thrown around in 2012 was astounding. It ranged from has-beens like Davis, Tuberville and RichRod to geriatric retirees who'd been out of football for 2 decades like Jimmy Johnson, Switzer and Fred Akers. That's on top of the people who acted like we were on the level of a lower tier non-P5 program and should hire Kevin Kelley or Clint Conque.

Our fans are for the most part great Razorback fans, but profoundly ignorant about how college football works.

FML. I'd wish that I'd made better choices in life so I could potentially be a big time donor one day and not make such stupid decisions.

Even though he doesn't have the recruiting ties we might like, I think Scott Frost would be a home run hire.

He has a pretty decent gig at UCF but I'm sure we would double his salary.

No on all of them.

It will be someone within the "Razorback" family this time.

Now who that can be IO have no idea.

Kiffin has ties to here due to his father. So possibly?
