The allegations are they were very "cozy" in the past according to a couple of other threads on this board.

Huh?

"Cozy" as in they gorged at Golden Corral together a couple times a week while discussing current events? Or "cozy" as in they suck each others dicks?

Well some thought it closer to the latter--but I have no idea whether that's anywhere near the truth. They've come up in discussion before. LINK

Which really questions his drive to be part of a successful team at this level by attaching his wagon to the Chaney horse.

Sorry UGA fans, Chaney is a dud, he too was an Oline coach and coached Drew Brees for one year and after he found success in the NFL he was all the sudden called a QB guru.

Similar to Gus being a QB guru for Cam, Petrino being a QB guru for his system, Sumlin for JFF, etc.

Is what you're telling me that Chaney and Pittman have plans for Offensive world domination.......except that those plans kept getting interrupted by coaching changes? Until now. At UGA.

frick yes!

Arkansas had a top 10 defense in 2014...the offensive play calling was so bad that we still went 2-6 in league play and blew leads to aTm, Alabama, Missouri, and Mississippi State. The defense held aTm to 21, Bama to 14, Missouri to 21, and State to 17 points....still no winners....but alas, 0 fourth quarter points in every single one of those games with Brandon Allen, Jonathan Williams, Alex Collins, Hunter Henry, Drew Morgan, Jared Cornelius, Keon Hatcher, and a massive Oline.

So, even with a great defense, Chaney still sucks arse at putting points on the board.

That is also a top 10 defense with all of Chaney's 3 and outs.

Makes sense. That explains why Bret and his players are so publicly angry about him leaving.

Edit: SOrry. Thought you were talking about Pittman...

Not a single one of the offensive players or staff was upset with Chaney finding gainful employment at Pitt...

If you were to ask me, and I would assume the majority of the fan base and coaching staff to choose between:

OC Dan Enos and O-line coach to be named later

Or

OC Jim Chaney and O-line coach Sam Pittman

You would have Arkansas people choose Enos and TBD.

That is as clear as I can explain thoughts on Chaney.

Which is crazy...

Because there's so much on the line for Kirby Smart with this CRUCIAL hire.

Is this a bold and studied move. Or is this desperate flailing?

Time will tell.

it is a desperate hire at OC. he tried to mitigate the damage control with pittman.

I think it's an inexperienced first time head not being able to attract the better assistant coaches who wisely are taking a 'wait and see' if Smart is going to be able to make the transition to head coach of an SEC program. History hasn't proven the odds to be very good. Again, he got a good one in Pittman, but that's only because Chaney was will ing to come on board.

Chaney will do mediocre. I was neither impressed or appalled with his time as our OC. I can say he is a terrible QB coach though. BA only came into his own once chaney was gone after some time with Enos.

I'd say expectation wise you'll have a stellar OL and be able to run the ball which you will inexplicably move away from when it matters. Also there will be moments where Chaney is the smartest guy in the room and other times where you wonder what the frick was he thinking.

Thoughts on Jim Chaney

I'll simply quote what I posted on the CC board.

quote:

Pittman might be the best OL coach in college football right now. Fantastic hire by Smart.

Inversely, UGA fans will learn to hate Chaney pretty quickly. He puts together great game plans, but he's terrible the minute something doesn't go according to plan or when an opposing defense makes adjustments. Also, there are few who are worse than him at second half playcalling. Get ready to score very few points in the 4th quarter.
