I'm not surprised he declined the Florida job. The Florida job isn't as great as people make it out to be I don't think.

I think Mullen will do great there in time, but right now they're essentially facing self imposed sanctions with all that credit card fraud mess.

He apparently interviewed with Tennessee yesterday.

I’m waffling back and forth on whether he’s a legit candidate and would actually leave OSU.

Part of me says no, but I’ve heard rumblings that he is and would.

Who knows.

Not sure if legit, but FBScoop has some nugs today

quote:

Chatter in the profession has been of multiple contacts with the same candidate by different groups “representing” Arkansas. In one case, a source close to a candidate told FootballScoop, “Coach got a call from the biggest of Arkansas’ donors but hasn’t heard a word from their administration.” The same day a different source, referring to a different coach told FootballScoop, “Our guy just had a great call with Arkansas’ search folks and he’s going to interview with them.” In this case, there really seems to be two separate (and potentially unconnected) searches. Truly fascinating. We do have good news though, as word has come down that the powers that be at Arkansas are aware of the potential for disaster here and vastly accelerated their plans to attempt to select an AD in very short order. Arkansas needs this to unify the search and truly get everyone on the same page.

quote:

With that said, here is what we’ve been hearing from the two different searches: The search is being led by the folks who ultimately fund the university and who continue to believe Gus Malzahn is in play should Auburn lose to Georgia this weekend. That, very much, remains to be seen. Should Auburn win, assuring Auburn a spot in the Playoff, the money folks seem fixated on Mike Norvell as their Plan B. From the other search, led by those who are employed by the university, the word there is the two coaches they have vetted to their liking are Brent Venables and Chad Morris. Both of those men are outstanding football coaches and probably would do very well at Arkansas, but at this time it appears the donors would need to be sold on being a better choice that Mike Norvell. If Arkansas is able to select their new AD in the coming days perhaps he (or she) could accomplish this.

We hired a search firm, why?

Trey Schaap
Arkansas has hired a search firm to help with their search for their next football coach.

Does anyone else now get the feeling that if there is 2 separate searches taking place that we are only getting the GOBN side?

When we end up with Morris I will be underwhelmed when we should just hire lane.

tRant has a thread saying Tenner is interested. If we dick around and let Gundy go to Tenner and end up hiring Morris or Kiffin, the whole damn AD needs burnt down. I feel there's a good chance Gus is still in play though, who knows at this point.

I would much rather have Kiffin than Gus. Kiffin would be a fantastic hire.

by what metric is kiffin a fantastic hire, much less a better hire than malzahn?

Jesus the donors have a better understanding than those who work at the university if this is the case. Norvell beat morris head to head and had a mich better season at a school just as bad if not worse than smu. C'mon guys

The case against Kiffin has been outlined several times by Feral and others, which I completely agree with, but what in the Lawd's name sets Kiffin as an ideal candidate, and how in the heck can one say they'd prefer Kiffin over Gus?? Gus just won another SEC west title, and the best thing Lane has done this decade is ride Saban's coattails to a SEC title and take a bad FAU team to 9-3. Not seeing that one at all.

At Tenn, he became known as an outright dipshit who would bend the rules and caused a riot when he jumped at the first better offer to come along.

he got fired before the season ended while at USC and was so hated he actually wasn't allowed to board the bus or take the plane home.

he's been a good OC, though! (while at the same time getting banned from the NCG because presumably saban didn't like him.)

not ideal!

The drama surrounding Gus, division in the fan base, and the sky high expectations for him from the get go if he comes here are massive negatives against him imo

Of course winning negates those negatives as it would with any coach we hire.

I'd want out of Tennessee too

Bobby P was an unliked a-hole too. Guess we should get another lovable loser like Bert

He's been a phenomenal OC that USC and bama greatly missed when he was gone

We'd be lucky to hire him

It will be so pathetic if Gundy ends up going to Tenn. Doesn't mean we still can't make a good hire.

Of course the money guys want a local player in there.

I swear to God if we miss our chance at Venables because of these clowns and he goes on and builds a dynasty somewhere I'm gonna flip the frick out.

I have a hard time believing anyone who knows anything is going to take a call from "football scoop" and give details. I have a much easier time believing "football scoop" just makes shite up.
