Did he really look prepared to you? He looked like a third year guy who was absolutely petrified to make a mistake, because it was damn near impossible to get on the field for 3 years to me.
Prepared as he was ever gonna get. I think he probably isn’t smart. He has just had more talent than anyone on the field until he got to college. So he never had to worry about being on time in routes. If he didn’t see his first guy he could out run everyone.
After Fortins shite show against Miss State, could you imagine bringing him out over Malik? How ugly that would have been. All sorts of racism accusations etc.

this reply isn't just to you.
1. If TCU had to plays LSU, Bama, Auburn (most years), Florida, both Mississippi schools, they would be beat the frick up and lose 2-3 more. Awww.. yep, I said it.
2. Yes, we have settled for a career Oline coach with big tits. Who took us from the laughing stock to ... respectable. LSU was not sure of a win whatsoever.
3. KJ has been hurt most of the season. If he played every game like he did against BYU, we would be good to go. But the dude is hurt period.
4. Oline has regressed for sure, no excuses here perhaps other than injuries.. but whatever.
5. Briles is a good coach, not great, but good. If the Oline held up in this last game, even with Hornsby and Fortin we win.
6. We speak of "Depth" for the Oline, Qback, etc. But what about Defense. Yes, we looked much better Saturday. Incredible transformation really, great coaching. Where was that earlier in the season? Injuries: you say??? awww, where is the recruited depth that is the Defensive coaches responsibility as well. ODOM??? DO you recruit man?
7. THis is definitely not the year to be trying to outbid for a coach with all the jobs going to be open. We will have Sam here at least another year.

Btw I’m not in the fire Pittman camp. I do believe there was a whole lot of injuries that are just super unfortunate and Sam has been way better than I thought. I’m mainly just thinking out loud by making this thread and speaking about how we should have a higher standard as a fan base moving forward and stop all the poor widdle arkiesaw bullshite that some of our fan base seems to have. Will we be bama? No but we can be a Iowa or a kentucky under mark stoops. Meaning 6-6 floor 10-2 ceiling team

Rev, I'm sipping on some bourbon, but I haven't had that much. What are you trying to say?

Arkansas has NEVER had any stability since joining the SEC because they love hiring bad coaches.
Crowe
Ford
Bert
Chad
Then when they hired a decent coach and after the fifth year when it is obvious that coach can't get it done with teams full of talent. That coach gets a two year pass and wasted the most talented team since joining the SEC. Usually after the fifth year most schools make a change and Arkansas had a chance to do so but low expectations and no pride killed that possibility.
Nutt.
The only good coach Arkansas has had in the SEC is Petrino. Arkansas had a chance to get a good replacement because the job was much better then than now.
But stupid people make stupid decisions.

We can do a little better than Iowa. That program is in no man's land that has nothing going for it except being the same team each year. Arkansas gets better players than them just by existing.
If Arkansas ever wants to be good in football then they need an attitude adjustment from the boosters to the fans. Need to stop making excuses because the more excuses you make then the more tolerable you will be of losing. When losing becomes more acceptable then poor decisions will continue to be made.
Arkansas has everything they need to be successful but they need to make that decision to want to be good and thus better decisions will be made.

that we lack patience to achieve what Ferentz and Fry did at Iowa...
And Stoops as well...
Fry Was at Iowa 20 years...
5 seasons of 8/4
3 seasons of 9/3
3 seasons of 10 wins.. sometimes 10/1 others 10/2
1 seasons of 7/5
2 seasons of 6 wins...
14/20 bowl eligible.
His first three seasons 5/6, 4/7, 8/4
Ferentz has been at Iowa 24 years
4 seasons of 8 wins
2 seasons of 9 wins
4 seasons of 10 wins
2 seasons of 11 wins
1 season of 12 wins
4 seasons of 7 wins
4 seasons of 6 wins
21/24 seasons bowl eligible.
his first thee years, 1/10, 3/9, 7/5
Kentucky with Stoops 10 seasons
One season of 8/5
Two seasons of 10/3
Two seasons of 7/6
One season of 6/4
Six seasons of bowl eligible
First three seasons 2/10, 5/7, 5/7
Pittman??? Just comparing the patience of these schools someone mentioned earlier to Arkansas with specific coaches. Can/Will Pittman do it??? IDK, but firing a coach every 3-4 years isn't working and there is no magical answer... unless ya cheat.

by the way, if we found our Ferentz... I would fight someone to keep him here...

But Sam was never a long term guy, and I don’t think he was ever intended to be a long term guy. He is in his early 60’s now. Can we honestly think he will be the coach in 5 to 8 years? I don’t think so.
Sam’s job was to get us out of the cellar, and bring us some semblance of pride of culture, stability, and respect, as fragile and tenuous as it may be. We still need him for that job for at least another year or two.
That doesn’t mean he doesn’t need to work harder than he ever has, make changes where needed, and recognize when things just aren’t working. I’d love to see this staff together another year, but Briles has to go out and get a portal QB who can make the throws, plus use his legs when needed. Hopefully he can teach him to slide.

Sam is 61
Saban, (No, Not comparing their coaching acumen) is 71
Just for thoughts....

Saban is the exact kind of hardass, cut throat, unforgiving little tyrant that Sam could never be. Not knocking Saban because it obviously works. Petrino was much the same, with a double dose of a-hole added.
If Sam has any real success, it will be because he finds coordinators who appreciate if not love him, and are willing to do whatever it takes to bring him success. I think he has that in Odom, and maybe Briles too.

dude, you mentioned age.. I responded in kind.
Some else mentioned Iowa and KY as a barometer.. I responded in kind.
I don't disagree with you in some ways.
There is a dude on 247 saying, "There are going to be major changes to the coaching staff following the season". IDK< but...

Kentucky football as a barometer should tell us all we need to know about our program.
Just hire Gus and be done with it.

not my barometer bro... Just responding to another.
I personally do not see Stoops at KY as an indicator of possibilities at Arkansas.
KY is the Abyss, or was for years.
We are becoming such, if we aren't careful. Closer than I like to admit.
BUt, what happened at Iowa under two coaches was pretty phenom, for that area of the country

They were patient with two coaches because they had no history and 19 consecutive losing seasons before Hayden Fry took over.

I simply responded with my thoughts. I had already stated that I didn't think Sam was, or was ever intended to be, a long term guy. I'd be glad if he was, because if so, it will mean he has had some great success here.

Sam is a career position coach who gets stressed out even winning games.
He looks rough and burned out.

Agree. But pretty sure anytime anyone brings this point up, we have a large contingent of complacent “fans” that seem to not give a shite about actual performance and take legitimate criticism of the program, coaches, and a culture of acceptance of mediocracy on a personal level and are then usually the first to melt when we shite the bed and lose a game of a few that we shouldn’t or just blow a golden opportunity(like we always do).

Since joining the SEC, Arkansas is a 5.96 rounded to an average six win program.
Thar is underwhelming considering Arkansas recruits top 25 classes.
